UPDATED: We’ve been referring to the upcoming eighth season as “likely” the show’s last ever since the show’s renewal last November. Now likely has become definitely. Showtime has confirmed that Weeds will end its run after this summer’s eighth season. “Weeds has been a seminal series for Showtime and was key in establishing the network as a home for great original programming,” said Showtime’s entertainment president David Nevins. “It was very important to us that we bring the story of Nancy Botwin and her family to a satisfying conclusion for the devoted fans who have spent years following these characters.” The final 13 episodes of Weeds, which will begin airing July 1, will include the series’ 100th episode, a rare feat for a pay cable network show.
Many key Weeds players have moved on. Justin Kirk and Kevin Nealon this spring only made deals for one last season on Weeds after landing broadcast pilot leads in first position. Kirk’s project, Animal Hospital, was picked up to series at NBC to launch this fall. Weeds creator Jenji Kohan too has a new series in the works at Netflix, Orange Is The New Black. Weeds, starring Mary-Louise Parker, helped put Showtime on the map. The network has plenty of half-hour building blocks at its disposal for the next year. Since picking up the show for Season 8, Showtime has renewed several comedy series – Californication, House Of Lies and Nurse Jackie – with a decision on The Big C pending. Coming up this summer is Season 2 of Episodes.

If they were really concerned about ending the show right, they would have ended it when Nancy burned down Agrestic. The show has been all over the place since then.
Should have ended five seasons ago.
I disagree. I have loved every season of Weeds, especially these later ones. Every season is different, fresh, new, exciting. I wish more shows “restarted” every season rather than get stale and boring. Weeds has kept me on my toes and I am greatly looking forward to this season. All the best to the cast and crew for 8 wonderful seasons.
Should have ended mercifully after Season 3. It just got really bad.
Noooooooooooooooooo…
I stopped watching after the ep where the uncle took the boy to a massage parlor to get a handjob. I’m no prude, but that was too far.
Want to talk about a show all over the place?
That’s The Big C.
This season was so bad until episode 7 & 8. I like an angry and in charge Cathy.
Episode 9 wasn’t so good.
If they do renew, it’ll be for a final season where Nancy will die.
Weeds has been one of the most funniest comedies since its inception. A lot better than most of the sitcoms you see like 2.5men, Tbbt, himym.
The show has gotten so much better since they left Agrestic! Give it a chance and you’d love it!
I love the show every season is different. So sad it has to end. But they still have Dexter and Nurse Jacky.
I agree the show should’ve probably ended after the burning of Agrestic, but I won’t say the show continuing was a bad thing. I’m glad Andy got over Nancy, I really started to dislike her after about the third season. I’m just looking forward to Dexter and Homeland.
I have to disagree. i am so disappointed they are ending this series. Most shows on tv these days are complete crap that i dont watch……weeds was the last tv series left that i still watched……executive assholes…..let the fans decide via web polls next time. wont be watching showtime again anytime soon.
