Jerry O’Connell is set to star opposite Eddie Izzard and Charity Wakefield in NBC’s Munsters reboot Mockingbird Lane. The pilot, written by Bryan Fuller and to be directed by Bryan Singer, is described as a reinvention of the 1960s sitcom about The Munsters, a family of “monsters” — vampires, werewolves and Frankenstein, and their “plain” cousin (Wakefield) — that will feature striking visuals in the vein of Fuller’s ABC dramedy Pushing Daisies. O’Connell will play family patriarch, the handsome and gangly Herman Munster, a great dad and devoted husband. He is married to Lily, a vampire, with whom he has fathered a 10-year-old boy, Eddie (Mason Cook). Strong but sentimental, Herman works at a funeral home, and worries that Eddie’s transformation into a werewolf and burgeoning awareness of his family’s origins will crush the boy’s spirit. Fred Gwynne played the role in the original Munsters sitcom. Izzard plays Grandpa in the reboot.

He was great in Seminar.
And does’nt even need make-up!
I was interested in this series… until now. Wow. what a let down.
Agreed. What a terrible choice.
Who remembers Carpool?
Fuller and Singer will screw it up. Pass.
Jerry will be great, what a witty and funny guy. I have no doubt, he will make the show perfect,
My reaction exactly. This can’t be worse. I was so excited for this series and no there’s no way I’ll tune in. Luckily its NBC so it’ll probably be canceled immediately anyway
I know David Tennant was their first choice. Shame they couldn’t get him…
That would have been horrible
What the ????????
Wow. What a letdown. O’Connell is in one failed show after another. He’s not a comedic actor by any means and this whole concept seemed off from the very beginning so this is almost cementing it for me. Cast an unknown but just cast someone who pull off the role. O’Connell is better for some dry boring CBS procedural. I fear for who they’ll cast as Lily Munster.
Brad Garrett was too on the nose?
I’m not a Garrett fan, but what a perfect casting choice!
Call the casting agency for an application.
Dammit, just last week at Phoenix Comicon, Colin Ferguson mentioned that he was in the running. I liked that idea.
As much as I like Jerry O’Connell, oh man, Colin Ferguson would’ve been great! And definitely would’ve made my Eureka-watching family more enthused to watch the show. Still, I’ll give this show a try, if only to see how bad the creators screw it up (it’s on NBC, so I remain ever-cautious).
I don’t like when people say mean things in the comments, but this just doesn’t make sense.
I thought this was going to be a darker series? If it is comedy then Jerry would be great. But a darker comedy not so sure. Need to see the pilot first.
Ill give three to one odds, maximum bet 1000 bucks, that this show doesn’t last a season. I’ll go 5 to 1 it isn’t renewed for a second season. Any takers, leave your email and I’ll find ya. What a disiaster all around.
Take that Stamos!!
whaaaaat?
Nice casting except he’s not funny at all.
This might be one of the oddest casting choices ever made. It won’t work and the show will be canceled within the first two seasons.
NBC please do a reboot of Gilligan’s Island!
I liked Sliders.
I actually think it’s kind of an inspired choice… I recently saw him in Seminar on Broadway and he totally blew me away. He can flat out act… Who knew?
So this show is the Munsters… reimagined as a semi-serious hour. The Munsters we’re talking about, right? The Munsters.
I’ve lived too long.
You guys honestly can’t care THIS much about an NBC Munsters reboot. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to watch Season 1 of the Knight Rider reboot.
Is this because of his height?
I was hoping Fuller would be able to recruit his Pushing Daisies star Lee Pace, he would have been perfect.
Same here. If Fuller was going for a handsome leading man (which is probably wise; this is definitely a female-skewing premise, especially with Fuller in charge) then Lee Pace would be the more interesting choice.
