EXCLUSIVE: Justin Long is in negotiations for the lead role in The Ten O’clock People. The Live Free Or Die Hard actor would play Brandon Pearson in the modernized adaptation of the Stephen King short story. As previously reported, Tom Holland will direct and has written the screenplay. The story follows Pearson’s attempt to quit smoking and the unknown and terrifying aspect of reality that he uncovers as he tries to kick. The Ten O’clock People comes from King’s 1993 Nightmares And Dreamscapes collection. The film starts shooting September 10 in New York. It’s produced by Making Ten O’clock Productions and Holland’s Dead Rabbit Films with Nathaniel Kramer and E.J. Meyers producing. Long is repped by CAA and Principato-Young.
Deadline's Dominic Patten - tip him here.

Is it just me or does there seem to be a hot streak of Stephen King projects all the sudden? A 2 part It movie, remake of Carrie, 11/22/63 in the works, and now The 10 o’clock people…
Huge fan of his books but given the screen adaptations are always hit or miss I wonder what the driver is behind this recent influx of activity?
Science might prove us wrong here, Heather, but I’ve also got the same feeling. The way this business works, it could also be pure coincidence. After all, Stephen King is very prolific, he’s a recognized and safe brand in his own right, his writing style is very visual anyway and… I have no idea why the screen adaptations have worked out less successfully than they should have done. Bad luck, maybe?
I still remember his performance in “Jeepers Creepers”: unsettling, haunting, one that elevated an average script, in my opinion. The kid can act.
Justin did an awesome audio book version of King’s “Everything is Eventual”. I think King’s work is due for some real knock outs. The industry is ready to do him justice.
This was already done as part of Stephen King anthology Cat’s Eye in mid – 80′s. James Wood starred.
Different story….you’re thinking of the one from Night Shift (Quitters, Inc.).
ya, it’s THE SAME damn story. how does that happen????
Sadly, Tom Holland seems desperate. once a great director now doing Stephen King rejects? a movie about quitting smoking?
Lol, Have you even read the story? Doesnt seem like it…
That Cat’s Eye story starring James Woods was actually “Quitters Anonymous”, not “The Ten O’clock People”.
This story has a ton of potential for the big screen, I think Justins a great pick, as he is an actor. Can’t wait to hear about more casting news on this one.
Patricia, If you want to call a Stephen King adaptation with a talented, recognizable star desperate, your definition for success must be nothing less than an Oscar… It’s obvious you havent read the story, thanks to your very bland description of the plot. “A movie about quitting smoking” as it’s much more than that. I think this is going to be a triumphant return for Holland, very excited to see him back.
Sex, Monsters and Stephen King. What more can you ask for? Looking forward to this one.
Actually the story on cats eye was called quitters inc. Its also about a guy who quits smoking but a completly different story
If you’ve read the story you would realise that its about a lot more than quitting smoking
But will Justin Long have a five and a half minute fight scene with Keith David? At least make sure he has enough bubblegum…
“They Live” with Nicotine, should be great!
