Warner Bros has bought remake rights to the Danish film Klown, a raunchy road trip comedy that Drafthouse Films is releasing in the U.S. next month. The redo has Todd Phillips aboard to produce and maybe direct, and Danny McBride set to star and writing the script — from his work on the over-the-top Eastbound & Down, you can see where this is going. The original movie, based on a TV show, is about two self-centered married guys who go on a trip together to get girls — but one of the guys kidnaps a 12-year-old to bring along because his wife thinks he wouldn’t make a good father and he wants to prove her wrong. It’ll be in theaters in NY, LA, Austin and VOD everywhere on July 27. Here’s a trailer that dropped today.

My family in DK made me watch this with them when I was visiting. Shocked and awed, don’t think I’ve laughed that hard at a movie in a long, long, long time.
The tv show it’s based is a blatant copy of Curb Your Enthusiasm
Yes, Warner Bros. would be idiots not to want to be in business with Danny McBride! Especially after the runaway success of both YOUR HIGHNESS and 20 MINUTES OR LESS.
Audiences obviously can’t get enough of Danny McBride!! No way you’re going to lose money on this!!
This is one of those movies that give foreign movies a bad name. The whole thing is sketchy ( based on sketchshow with the same title). Do not waste money on it.
This sounds completely stupid. “a guy kidnaps a 12 year old girl and brings her on a roadtrip to prove to his wife that he’s a good parent.” WTF???!!! This idea sounds horrible. hahah
Actually he kidnaps a 12 year old boy, but it’s not really kidnapping, as he was supposed to be babysitting…. eh, i’m not going to explain it… it was pretty freaking funny but not for everyone.
This movie is the funniest movie I’ve seen since bridesmaids and the original hangover. Todd was smart to pick this up and Danny will slay in this.
As an expat Dane living in NY, my sister made me watch this movie when I was home for xmas – It is one of the funniest, most toe-curling things I have ever watched. Might be too shocking for American audiences. It is not —as some poster would have you believe— a copy of “Curb Your Enthusiasm” in any way (though a great show in its own right) I wonder if the American remake will be able to capture the brilliance of the original (they usually don’t). Can’t really compare it to any American comedy – *any* resemblance of political correctness is out the window. The film takes “uncomfortable humor” to a whole new level. Watch the original if you have the opportunity.
It is a very funny film, saw it last week. Trailer doesn’t do it justice.
The curse of the MPAA’s green band guidelines…they completely neuter a movie like this to get a passable trailer.
Phillip Todd, Hollywood Phoney, has a chance to make Due Date with a live boy. Another comedy aimed at the rubes from the man who claimed he was an underground outlaw of cinema. Now he’s Shawn Levy’s tennis partner.
Oh, those wacky Danes. They’re SOOOOO funny!
Throw Danny McBride in the mix and you’ve got yourself a real Waterloo of hilarity.
Can’t wait to miss that!
