EXCLUSIVE: One of the first high-profile series projects for next season is coming together. 20th Century Fox TV and studio-based Imagine TV are developing The League Of Pan, a fairytale-themed drama series that takes on the story of Peter Pan. Based on an idea by up-and-coming writer Brian McCauley Johnson, League Of Pan is described as a re-imagining of the Peter Pan mythology. Set in modern day, it centers around the Lost Boys and takes place 10 years after they’ve left Neverland. Imagine TV and 20th TV are in the process of searching for a showrunner who would co-write the pilot script with Johnson. With a showrunner on board, the project will be taken out to the networks.
The Lost Boys, who originated in J.M. Barrie’s play Peter Pan, are boys lost by their nannies who have been whisked off to Neverland to live with Peter Pan. In Barrie’s play and subsequent novel, the Lost Boys return to London with the Darling kids to live with their family, while in the Disney movies they stay at Neverland with Peter. The League Of Pan comes at a time when contemporary dramas with fairytale elements are hot following the success of freshman breakouts Once Upon A Time on ABC and Grimm on NBC. On the feature side, there have been a couple of Peter Pan projects percolating, including another contemporary re-imagening of the the story that centers on the Peter Pan-Captain Hook relationship. The indie was to star Aaron Eckhart as Hook, a detective chasing childlike kidnapper Peter.
Imagine TV, which just re-upped its deal at 20th TV, has new comedy series How To Live With Your Parents (For The Rest Of Your Life) launching on ABC in January. Johnson, repped by CAA and Principato-Young, is a brand new writer who worked as a writers assistant/PA on CSI: Miami.

Lord of the Rings?
Dear Lord please change that title.
Really excited about this one. Peter Pan is one of the most beloved heroes of our fiction.
don’t get too excited, it’s not even set up at a network yet!
Brian is a superstar! Congrats to him!!
Woot on that! Go Brian go! Dance magic dance!
Very excited. It has the potential to be dark and adventurous. Can’t wait to hear who gets to play who.
i’d be more excited if this was about The Apple Pan and a delicious cheeseburger who moves from a small town in the midwest to NYC…or vice versa…as long as there’s bacon it won’t matter.
These projects that simply co-opt and put a twist on another well-known/beloved work are so sad and lame. Let’s hijack a “brand.” that’s not being a writer.
I’m just thrilled its not being produced as reality TV!! Lets keep writers/directors/actors etc. working! FYI “real Peter” its who gets to play “whom”.
Dear So Lame: Shakespeare was like that too. Seldom hatched original plots. It was all recycling history, legends and other people’s plays. Lame lame lame!
‘The League Of Pan’ sounds like another cooking “reality” show.
Peter Pan and Lost Boys all grown up in the modern world? Truly, this is a story idea never explored before.
Amen to that!
Okay, say it does get picked up AFTER it’s pilot. It’s only got about a seasons worth of life. Good for the little kid who gets a chance, bad for TV.
That’s how writing goes. Take a look over to the right at the top of the box office. Can you find a single completely original idea in the mix? People don’t care about completely original ideas. They want adventure and excitement and characters they can rally behind. Coming from someone who has read the script I can tell you I’m excited. And so is everyone I’ve talked to who has read it.
Sounds like a really inventive spin on a classic tale! Think this can make a big splash in the marketplace! Kudos to this new writer!
Those who have read the script…is there a Tiger Lily and any of her tribe in it? I have several Native American actor friends who would be thrilled at the news.
Yay, more public domain fairy tale shit!
