Millennium Entertainment will release Lee Daniels’ The Paperboy theatrically on October 5, the distributor announced today. The erotic thriller stars Matthew McConaughey, Nicole Kidman, Zac Efron, David Oyelowo, Macy Gray and John Cusack. The screenplay was written by Pete Dexter and Daniels, based on the novel by Dexter. The movie got decidedly mixed reviews in May when it had its world premiere at Cannes. It revolves around a man (Efron) who tries to help his journalist brother (McConaughey) investigate the possible wrongful conviction of a man on death row (Cusack). Kidman co-stars as a Southern tart who likes her men behind bars.

I guess no one else wanted it. I am not surprised after the reviews.
exactly
reviews are mixed. too bad american distributors don’t want to risk anymore. the movie has been sold EVERYWHERE but here in US. sad.
Thats not what i heard. I heard avi was holding firm at 4 million. they had offers but nuimage wouldn’t make a deal. They always wanted to hold on to this
Doesn’t surprise me.
They’ve had a small listing for it on their american distribution site for several months now.
I’m sure it’s no worse than most of the movies out right now!! i.e. Rock of Ages….AWFUL. If an animated movie outdoes you, than you know it’s bad.
Despite all the negative reviews, I’m really excited to see it. Paperboy is an incredible novel and I appreciate that Daniels worked with Pete Dexter on the screenplay. I hope it leads to more of Dexter’s novels being adapted, which is long overdue, especially considering David Milch completely stole the concept and characters for Deadwood from Dexter’s 1986 novel of the same name. It’s rather remarkable that Milch, being such a thorough researcher, claims to have never even heard of the book!
Oddly enough that cover reminds me of “To Die For.”
