Mariana Klaveno has been cast as Lily Munster in NBC’s Munsters reboot Mockingbird Lane. However, Klaveno’s deal is contingent on her being released from a pilot she had a regular role on: ABC’s Devious Maids. Klaveno is not one of the leads on Devious Maids and has just a few lines in the pilot. But, in light of the project’s possible move to Lifetime, in an act of gamesmanship or a mix of both, Devious Maids producer ABC Studios has so far refused to release the actress. I hear that, in a major departure from precedent, NBC is even willing to let Klaveno recur on Devious Maids in exchange for securing her in first position to Mockingbird Lane, where she would play the female lead.

ABC Studios has been looking to cut costs for Devious Maids‘ potential move to cable (I hear the main actresses have been asked to take a pay cut), but the studio has not agreed to convert Klaveno’s role to a recurring so she can join Mockingbird Lane. After one extension, I hear there is now a ticking clock that expires at the end of business today to get Klaveno released from Devious Maids so she can play Lilly Munster. At this point, with ABC Studios digging in (it has Klaveno in first position until at least June 30, when they can extend her option), it is probably going to take a miracle — or a call from NBC topper Bob Greenblatt to Devious Maids creator Marc Cherry — to get her released. If that doesn’t happen, NBC will likely go back to the drawing board and start casting the Lily Munster role again.
Written by Bryan Fuller and to be directed by Bryan Singer, Mockingbird Lane is described as a reinvention of the 1960s sitcom about The Munsters, a family of “monsters” — vampires, werewolves and Frankenstein, and their “plain” cousin (Charity Wakefield) — that will feature striking visuals in the vein of Fuller’s ABC dramedy Pushing Daisies. Jerry O’Connell plays family patriarch Herman Munster, who is married to Lily, a vampire, with whom he has fathered a 10-year-old boy, Eddie (Mason Cook). Eddie Izzard plays Grandpa in the reboot.

As long as Marc Cherry doesn’t slap her, she wins.
Shes too young . Go back an look at the original
Teri Hatcher is more the right age. And Jerry O’Connell as Hermann? At this point, I have no idea what Bryan Fuller is doing with this show.
It may be a “reboot” like Ron Moore’s BSG was a reboot – nothing much to do with the original at all. And that turned out well, so I’m keeping an open mind.
She’s not too young. Yes, she’s younger than the original actress was, but she’s playing a vampire. She’s supposed to look youthful.
It should also be noted that not only was Yvonne De Carlo 42 years old, she was about 6 months older than the man playing her father. This actress is 33, which is a good age. She’s young, but not too young. And she won’t visibly age over the next few years, which is good if you’re playing a character who doesn’t age. Hiring an actress in her 40s is definitely a bad idea.
A vampire’s appearance is only as “youthful” as they were when they died. If an 80 yr old becomes a vampire, the youngest they will ever look is 80. Nothing odd about a middle-aged vampire.
THANK YOU for introducing logic and reasoning into this thread. We all the more educated for it, and will forever be in your stead. Also, I do want to point out that Cindercity does have a point — no network should be hiring anyone over 40 for any reason. Old people suck. And they smell. And they keep making shows that’ve been done to death. Keep it real, people. Especially when it comes to vampires. Old people don’t EVEN understand this genre. Die over 40ers, die!!! Don’t even THINK about hanging around as vampire. You DON’T get vampires. You are too, too old. Old. Die. Die right now if not sooner.
I would feel very badly for her if Munsters does not work out and then Devious Maids fails to land a series pickup. Great actress, enjoyed her on True Blood.
She should because there’s hardly enough talent around in LA for TWO actresses to play TWO roles.
Exactly. Thank you!
both of them are too young, Lily is the matriarch of the whole family. Did any of you see the “Devious Maids” pilot??? SO BAD. So over the top wit h the non-maid cast. the house keepers were very good, but everyone else shouuld be recast. I get that it is a soap, but seriously???? terrible casting for that and Mockingbird Lane. Lily Munster should be Rose Mcgowan or even older, someone with a dark side and a lightness and in total control. Someone unique and with flair. Mariana just blends in. She was one of the only passable non-housekeeper in “DM” pilot
Get someone short to make Jerry O”connell look super tall…….like the other poster said Rose Mcgowan is small, talented, and has a fire!
You folks don’t even know the script/story to this show and you’re already commenting on the casting choices?
The whole POINT of this reboot is to distance from the original. That’s why the name of the new show isn’t MUNSTER’S but MOCKINGBIRD LANE.
Wait until the damn show airs or until you see these characters made up how they’re supposed to be before you condemn it.
As a HUGE Fuller fan I have faith in this project and will continue to until I SEE or READ the actual pilot.
If they want to distance themselves from The Munsters, why use The Munsters at all? Just invent new characters and go from there. (Answer: because it would be harder for a brand new “name” to be greenlit.)
And of COURSE people are commenting on any new show as soon as info on it is known! Is this your first day on the internet?
NBC cancels Harry’s Law,Prime Suspect and put on crap like this.
Hey NBC you forgot to camel Grimm.
A-holes!
I didn’t think about that but you guys are right! Rose McGowan would be perfect in the role. From your lips to NBC ears.
Im sure Singer and Fuller will rock this!! But….i do like the Rose Mcgowan idea
ABC should do everything it can to prevent NBC from getting the actress for one reason:
Back in 2009, ABC invited Sarah Lancaster (Chuck) and Masi Oka (Heroes), who were both starring in NBC shows at the time, to reprise their roles for the finale. NBC went as far as forbidding them to accept the offer.
How the tables have turned…
Oops. Forgot to mention I was referring to Scrubs there.
I love Jerry O’Connell, but I think this is an odd choice. I thought Diedrich Bader would have been perfect for the role.
Devious Maids was a truly wretched pilot and it’s no surprise ABC passed on it for the network. The best thing that could happen to her is if Marc Cherry lets her out of that crapfest altogether.
She should fire her agent. This is where she is at after that amazing turn on TRUE BLOOD? Yegads. Fire your agent. Turn down the role of Lily Munster. You are better than this.
Klaveno is fantastic (really alluring on True Blood) and I was kind of surprised she didn`t go further after that, but it sounds like she is gaining some traction (2 regular roles is not bad).
Famke Janssen would be amazing in this role, but unfortunately her Hemlock Grove already has a full season commitment from Netflix.
Rose McGowan might be a casting coup though: her new weird face might not be so out of place.
