Maura Tierney is reuniting with fellow ER alumna Julianna Margulies, joining the cast of Margulies’ praised CBS drama The Good Wife in a recurring role. On the legal drama set in the Windy City, Tierney will play a self-made millionaire who has become the doyenne of Chicago Democratic politics.
Tierney joined NBC’s long-running medical drama ER one-third of the way into Season 6, with her character Nurse Abby Lockhart introduced to fill the void of the pending departure of Margulies’ Nurse Carol Hathaway. Margulies, ER‘s original female lead, left the series at the end of that season, while Tierney’s character quickly became a central one during the second half of ER‘s run and earned Tierney an Emmy nomination. Following her nine-year stint on ER, Tierney recurred on FX’s Rescue Me and guest starred on the NBC comedy The Office. She just signed with UTA and is managed by Untitled.

I know this to be true and mean this: One of the nicest and most beautiful people you could want to meet and work with and count as a friend.
She’s terrific; glad she’s back … and, with an ER-chum no less.
I love this show and hope this next season gets back to the balls-to-the-wall action we saw in season 1.
Juliana is a doll!
Loved her on ER, as well as NewsRadio. This sounds like a great role on what I’m told is a good show. Best of luck to her.
Marguiles was (one of) the female leads, along with Sherry Stringfield.
She has fantastic range. And by range I mean blink-pout-snark. That’s it, and it’s why CAA dumped her. Where can you cast such a type? I know, a best-friends’ show after it’s stable on year four and can handle random guests for a few arcs.
When I think about all the talent in this town that can stand on their marker and knock out some great scenes, I can’t help but think why types like Tierney get work. And that’s The Whole Truth.
Her work with Sally Field on E.R. speaks for itself.
Been beat out by her on a few roles, JP? Probably should work on your “blink and pout.” You got the “snark” down pat.
Does she owe you money or something? I think your comment is way off the marker (sic).
have you seen her on Rescue Me playing a cancer patient months after she had cancer herself? or any of her performances in almost 10 years on ER? Believable tragedy is her forte.
@Cinesnatch: Why don’t you watch it and find out for yourself??! It’s not exactly hard to find.
