Netflix says this morning that it has a multi-year exclusive deal with Warner Bros Domestic Television Distribution to domestically stream all previous season episodes of ABC Family’s Pretty Little Liars and The Lying Game. Season 1 of Pretty Little Liars is already available and Season 2 will be up July 3. The first season of The Lying Game will become available in early 2013 after the second season begins on ABC Family. The deal means that “new viewers will have the opportunity to discover the show and catch up which will, in turn, bring new fans to the original episodes on ABC Family,” says WBDTD president Ken Werner. Some analysts question that assumption: Ratings for Viacom’s Nickelodeon plummeted after many of its shows appeared on Netflix.

And ratings for every single one of ABC Family’s shows have plummeted by over a million, each, since Paul Lee left. This network is no longer on the rise, it’s struggling. It may be the first time in years ratings are down for this net and not up.
I don’t understand how is it possible that streaming all PREVIOUS season episodes affect ratings for the new ones :-/
People who have never heard of the show before can watch it on Netflix and if they discover that they like it, they can watch the previous seasons and inevitably catch up and start watching newly released episodes thereby adding more viewers for the network and hence affecting the ratings.
Well, there are reports that said Netflix streaming contributed to the rise in rating for Mad Men this season. The effect might be true, a lot of people do Mad Men marathon on Netflix during its 18-month hiatus. I think this deal could be good for ABC Family, like Mad Men, both Pretty Little Liars and The Lying Game are serialized and quite addictive dramas that are most enjoyable when watch in bulk.
Hopefully this will help The Lying Games rating this winter. I know I fell in love with breaking bad through netflix and a few other shows. So I think wil help both shows.
I started watching Pretty Little Liars on Netflix and now I’m HOOKED!! I’m super pumped for season 2 to come to Netflix IN TWO DAYS! I will catch up and then watch all of the episodes of season 3 online then continue to watch it on TV. I think it is a perfect idea to put the previous seasons on Netflix to hook new viewers… and I also think abc family’s viewing declines are purely the fact of new shows having poor content… sad really but there are better shows that abc family still has so yay for them!
But when does season 3 come out in Netflix ???.?.?
The third season just started in June and won’t be finished till March I think they just showed the mid season finale and the Halloween special will air on October 23rd and then the other half of the season won’t air to January 2013, but there is a web series till the Halloween special called pretty dirty secrets and it’s on abc family.com and YouTube and a new episode comes on every Tuesday till the Halloween special but if you want to watch the season online then google project free tv.
I think that once the season comes out, then it should be put up on Netflix. Because then the people who haven’t watched the show can catch up, then continue watching it on TV. Also (a note to Netflix), when you put up a date for something to come out, PLEASE put it out when you say it will. I just got hooked on Pretty Little Liars from Netflix and watched it in about 2 days, so the wait was long, but understandable. But it’s now 12:24 on July 3 (when they said it would come out), and NO Pretty Little Liars!!!! It’s making me VERY upset. Bad Netflix. Bad, bad Netflix >:(

Season three is still air on ABCFamily. That’s why you won’t find it on netflix.

I don’t understand why netflix can’t just add each episode a few days after it is first aired instead of making people wait until the whole season is over. Netflix would probably have more people logging on each day to see an episode they missed or a new episode. I just finished all of the pretty little liars episodes on netflix and i hate the fact that i will have to wait until after the whole season 3 is over on regular tv to see it on netflix.
Yes waiting for 3 is a real drag. I just finished watching season one and two some of which I already seen on tv. I caught season 3 on tv last night and now I see it is only 7 episodes missed cause I didnt know it was back on at a different day/time. In just seven episodes its like not even the same show. And when 3 gets to netflix I wont even remember seasons one and two. Seems I should just wait to view 3 and rewatch last episode of season two beforehand.

Me and my sisters are P.L.L fans and we started watching this show a little while ago and we wanted to record the shows so we can watch them and keep up by we’re at least 6 episodes behind in season 3 and I was trying to figure out when it came on Netflix but this website doesn’t say. Anything about when season 3 P.L.L will be showing on Netflix. It seems like you haven’t updated and I would reaLly like to know cause we’re going crazy by not watching this show and we hope it will be on Netflix soon.

There’s a common problem here; people are trying to catch up on what they’ve missed out on in season 3 making it harder to watch. I have a similar case and i refused to watch PLL on TV because I’m so far behind in the season. I do agree that it would be wise to stream the shows on Netflix after they air so people can catch up an continue to watch these shows on TV, intern providing happier, caught up viewers. But now season 3 has concluded and I’ve only just finished season 2 on Netflix and I’m itching for 3 to be on Netflix already so I can catch up in time enough to watch the Halloween episode this October! Anyone have any clue when 3 will be on Netflix??

My guess is netflix will not release season three until at least the season 3 dvds become available for a while. PLL sells very well on dvd, and they don’t want the sales to be impacted.
I have searched the web high and low to figure out when Pretty Little Liars season 3 comes to Netfix, but nobody has any information on this.. why is that? Im getting very impatient. I want to get caught up before they start releasing more.
