Summit Entertainment just phoned me to publicly deny an Internet report that its parent company Lionsgate already is drawing up plans to remake the Twilight Saga by the 5th anniversary of the insanely successful movie and book series which began November 21, 2008. Summit Co-Chairman and now Lionsgate domestic movie czar Rob Friedman tells me: ”We are not remaking Twilight. We will happily support Stephanie Meyer if she decides to proceed in any way. But this will be the last one unless that should change.” What this statement means is simply that the studio will do whatever Twilight Saga author Stephenie Meyer wants. She has said in some interviews that she wouldn’t mind seeing a reboot — so an evantual remake isn’t out of the realm of possibility. But as of now none is on the drawing board. Summit has released four Twilight adaptations, with the fifth and final for now film Breaking Dawn Part 2 arriving in theaters on November 16th.

So disheartening to hear… Lionsgate would be wise to kill this. They are better than this.
Creative bankruptcy. That is all.
Are we really validating internet rumors now and we are really talking reboot even though the last film hasn’t even come out. I guess spiderman’s reboot so quick from it’s last incarnation is causing these rumors.
So I fully expect 500 twilight haters to fill this comment board…..
Twilight The Reboot: Now with 20% more longing.
Yeah right. I’m sure they ARE going to reboot the series anyways. Maybe after Fifty Shades of Grey is done and over with. Hopefully this time they’re wise to hire good actors and costume/hair/makeup stylists
I’m sorta hopeful they will remake it. Change the script up a bit, use what they learned in making what they did. And get someone who understands special effects too. There were so many things where the way it was done just felt like they had nobody experienced doing it.
Properly darkening it up, solid actors and some script cleaning would make for a more enjoyable film.
Is they were to reboot the series after 5 years, would they just re-cast Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner in their current roles? Maybe they could get Catherine Hardwicke to come back to the series to direct?
As lazy many hollywood studios are I do not see the twilight franchise sitting on the shelf for very long. Perhape 7-8 yesrs will go by and we will be plagued with more of this tripe for a new generation of teen girls to argue over who they like more.
No, what they learned, to their eternal dismay, was what the Harry Potter franchise learned, too, too late.
You can split up the books. Twilight, and the last 4 (and maybe 5) HP books all could have been 2 part movies. Heck, with some addeded special FX shots penned by JK, even the first 2 HP films could’ve been stretched to nearly 2, 2 hours long films.
Oh, the BILLIONS of dollars that were left on the table
Plus, unlike HP, the Twilight movies can be made on the cheap. Just find some young, good looking stars. This time, sign them up for however many movies you want to make. All in, talent wise, the franchise could be rebooted for say, 150 million for the entire series. You will make it back, especially if NEXT time it includes all the little extra scenes that had to have been cut (didn’t read books, not seeing films, no animosity to its fans). So they will pay again.
This will reboot, only the time frame will change. 10 years from it original, it will reboot.
Heck, I am a diehard Potter fan, and I am just waiting until the BBC (along with the SyFY in the US), remake HP via mini-series. I will gladly trade the nuances of the stories for some hokier FX shots.
The Harry Potter and Twilight franchises also couldn’t split up too many books because it’s a fight against time. Edward Cullen is supposed to be perpetually seventeen, remember.
HP will someday be rebooted, maybe as a film series, maybe even as a TV series a la Game of Thrones. But I think cooler heads will prevail when it comes to Twilight. Unlike HP, Twilight isn’t going to remain a classic. Just think back to the rows and rows of unsold Tickle-Me-Elmos lining the shelves a year after people were shelling out $500 for one.
Lord of the Rings.
They will be able to hire adults. Which means that all the young talent will basically be able to work continuously.
In 5 years they could knock out 8 films. It would be like college, or a tv show, or something.
Don’t hire experienced talent. They will want time off to do other projects. Hire young adults who haven’t worked a lot, and are dealing with the grind of the audition circuit. Most will be represented by lower tier agents, or dealing with very junior people at a larger agency.
They would sign anything put in front of them.
Why not a syndicated TV series? It’ll still make a truckload of money and it won’t clutter thousands of valuable movie screens that could be used for something fresh and new.
Fresh? New? Hollywood?
Fresh and new? LOL That’s a laugh. Hollywood has been rewarming garbage for years now. It’s so rare when a film comes along that’s original, and not something stupid like The Smurfs, or something stolen from Europe or Japan, like Let The Right One In.
Hollywood wouldn’t really know fresh and new if it bit them in the ass. They’d rather steal some mediocre show from the 70s and turn it into a movie, than actually take a script from a nobody that might be the next big thing.
Yes it’s a ludicrous idea — but this is a town that gives us a new SPIDERMAN and HULK every couple years and just gave us a TRANSFORMERS remake under the name BATTLESHIP….
Dear sweet feathery Jesus. No.
I am all for a reboot if they actually make a good movie out of it.Though having seen the Twilight movies, making a better version would not be that hard.
Not surprised, but I am surprised how many people think its far-fetched: Spider-Man anyone?
This is exactly why NO ONE should go see the new Spiderman. If that movie is successful there is no telling what else Hollywood will want to remake that just came out.
The Avengers? Batman? Pirates of the Caribbean? Remakes are fine, but please give us time to at least ALMOST forget the last movie!
The last “Twilight” movie has yet to even be released, so talk of a re-boot is distracting, and Lionsgate/Summit is smart to squelch the rumors.
Also, there’s no reason to draw a correlation between talk of a “Twilight” re-boot, and the soon to be released “Spiderman” movie, much less state no one should go see it. If you don’t like
franchise movies, then don’t you go see them, but there’s no reason to try and sabotage “Spiderman”.
They’re going to reboot a movie series that isn’t even a decade old yet? Are these people on dope?
It’s not even four years old yet. Twilight 1 came out in October 2008.
I’m a huge Twilight fan and even I think as fans we deserved better films. I can bet you that Stephenie Meyer is even embarassed by them and that’s why she refuses to do interviews for the films now. The acting is the worst part about the series along with the CGI/special effects, script, dialogues, and makeup and hair. I was really impressed with how Lionsgate made The Hunger Game into a great film. It had amazing acting. Just hope that they do the same with Twilight in the future if they decide to reboot the franchise.
I’m not a Twilight fan (at all), and only watched the first movie and boy, that one was baaad. But I wouldn’t mind seeing a reboot. Maybe in the right hands, they can make Twilight better movies. Revised the script, lessen the cheesiness
, get an A-list director, and of course, get talented actors and show that Twilight cast how to act!
geez .. for so many people who talk about hating the movies, Kristen and Rob so much … you all sure have seen all of them, haven’t you?
haters will always hate.
It would be nice to have twilight as a TV series. As a rival to vampire diaries which makes disparaging comments about twilight in a subtle manner. “Sparkling vampire get real” said by damon was one of the many barbs. It would be nice to continue the twilight saga story with Renesmee.
They can reboot it in about 50 years.
They can just re-release the original ones with the lead characters replaced with CGI characters like Lucas did with Star Wars. It “worked” for one movie series with Muppets as main characters, it should work with these, right?
You know who else gives us new Hulks and Spidermans every couple years? Marvel. Comics are consistently re-origining charachters, changing writers and artists. Who cares? If you don’t like it, don’t go see it. Lionsgate making another boatload of money only means more non Twilight movies will get funding and greenlit.
So where are they? That money is just going into the pockets of the people who make those stupid decisions.
Off the top of my head, there was the criminally underrated cancer drama ’50/50′ and Best Picture winner ‘The Hurt Locker.’
So when is the remake to Prometheus coming out?
And will there be a script next time?
In the reboot, please can Lindsay Lohan play the girl?
I genuinely think this is a good idea. With the exception Of the first one those movies are bottom of the barrel God awful. They have no momentum, no charm, zero character growth, shitty visual efx, this is just begging to be rebooted.
If Stephanie Meyer is already talking about a remake, does that mean she thinks the current movie versions of her books are really bad? And then isn’t it ironic that the writer/creator of a really bad vampire series (that is horribly written and obviously Mary Sue-d during the last book. Yes, I read them. I was young, and drunk.), thinks the movie series based off said books is really bad? Just sayin’… I kind of find that funny.
Im actually ok with this. Maybe if they reboot it maybe a good twilight movie. With a good script , good actors , & good directors. But let’s wait until a few years past.
