Summit Entertainment just phoned me to publicly deny an Internet report that its parent company Lionsgate already is drawing up plans to remake the Twilight Saga by the 5th anniversary of the insanely successful movie and book series which began November 21, 2008. Summit Co-Chairman and now Lionsgate domestic movie czar Rob Friedman tells me: ”We are not remaking Twilight. We will happily support Stephanie Meyer if she decides to proceed in any way. But this will be the last one unless that should change.” What this statement means is simply that the studio will do whatever Twilight Saga author Stephenie Meyer wants. She has said in some interviews that she wouldn’t mind seeing a reboot — so an evantual remake isn’t out of the realm of possibility. But as of now none is on the drawing board. Summit has released four Twilight adaptations, with the fifth and final for now film Breaking Dawn Part 2 arriving in theaters on November 16th.

I realize they’re vampires, but can’t we please just let them FUCKING DIE ALREADY??
oh my goodness, but we will never get rid of this twicrap?
The only reason for a re-boot would be the tell the story from Edward Cullen’s point of view. Meyer had started a book that would tell the story from Edward’s POV instead of Bella’s but someone leaked it to the internet and she shelved the project. But then again, re-imaged Battlestar Galactica TV series did a movie called THE PLAN which was the Cyllon’s POV and it was too boring for words.
No Rob or Kristen, then not interested. They’re the only reason I even watch this junk.
The world really is coming to an end . . .
I can’t wait for the Avengers reboot too! Might as well throw in the Hobbit!
The Twilight/Hunger Games adaptation process can’t compare. From what I understand, on the Meyer side, you had an author who was heavily involved the script and it’s people and granting her permission like some ultimate super source versus Collins, who aside from a few key decisions, got out of the way and let them adapt as required, understanding that film and books are vastly different. Also, really, the Hunger Games was FAR better source material and that’s with me being honest and admitting, I liked the Twilight movies for their craptastic, cheese-festness – I do drink during the screenings though.
A reboot might work if they were actually allowed to change the story a little, give Bella some edge/spine, ignore the horridness of the fourth book, fix the FX – okay, so there is a lot of work to do.
Stephanie Meyer will get her reboot, and very soon…
When the Fifty Shades of Grey movie comes out.
It will just have more sex!
I’m glad Summit had the foresight to deny these rumors to Deadline rather those tools at Variety.
Makes sense.
Twilight should definitely keep going – but with the same cast. Nobody could play Bella and Edward but Kristen and Rob. And the rest of the cast have claimed their characters as well. It is perfect just the same it is.
