Ah, the perils of breaking news. It took awhile for CNN and Fox News Channel to figure out exactly how the Supreme Court ruled today on President Obama‘s signature Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act — aka Obamacare. CNN tweeted and sent out a breaking news alert that the law had been struck down, and CNN’s website and CNN and Fox News’ on-air coverage reflected that misunderstanding before figuring it out. For the record, the justices upheld the law 5-4. Here’s what the cable news nets looked like initially, (via ThinkProgress, who also reported The Huffington Post got it wrong at first):

DEWEY DEFEATS TRUMAN.
No one remembers who reported a news story first, unless they reported a gross falsity.
Apt comparison. I laughed.
…once again proving each 24 hour news channel’s own irrelevance.
Which is why it is being reported her and you are making snarking comments, because it obviously doesnt make a different.
Spelling and punctuation should be a prerequisite to such erudite statements !
Fox just hoped if they wished it hard enough it would come true. Such quality journalists.
You do know CNN got it wrong to so drop the FNC garbage
Meanwhile, MSNBC held back and reported the story accurately. In other words, they did their jobs. Good job, MSNBC.
To steal a line from the Dan Patrick radio show: “Fast and wrong, is still fast.”
Watched the excellent Pete Williams on MSNBC- he nailed it- while CNN & Fox were so busy to be “first” with the “breaking news” that their inexperienced reporters jumped the gun and have subsequently offered the excuses that the ruling was really, really long and really, really confusing- and yet somehow, Pete got it right and dissected the ruling correctly.
I expected that of Fox News. I’m sure it’s the only version of the banner they made up ahead of time. But CNN??? Good Lord, someone bring back Ted Turner to kick some butt and get that place back in shape.
MSNBC did thier research and left their left wing baisedness to the side. Bravo.
this doesn’t surprise me – during their breaking coverage, CNN had an eye witness account from one of their producers in the field that a cessna flew into one of the towers. 24 hour news channels have been getting it wrong for YEARS
