The audio company unveiled the marquee at a ceremony at Hollywood & Highland this evening. Dolby took over sponsorship of the former Kodak Theatre on May 1. At that time, a 20-year deal was announced between the company and property owners CIM. The deal is contingent on the Academy Awards remaining at the venue; the Academy signed a 20-year deal with CIM the same day. Dolby announced soon after that it will give the theater a full tech upgrade. Earlier today, Dolby execs, including CEO Kevin Yeaman, showed off the new 180,000-square-foot space and the technology they’ve been installing for the past month. Disney/Pixar’s Brave is scheduled to be the first premiere at the Dolby Theatre on June 18. The Dolby Theatre’s debut as the official Oscars venue comes at the 85th Academy Awards on February 24, 2013.

I love it that ” Brave ” is the first film shown at the new theater…set the tone right:)…..fearless, truth, beauty inside / outside. Big kiss!
I’m still upset they didn’t strike a deal with ‘Roto-Rooter’.
Or, better yet, a company named: WWFT!
(Based on the costumed characters outside repeatedly stating: “We Work For Tips!” before pics are taken.)
Either way, congrats, DOLBY!
Here’s hoping the new audio tech you’re working on (Sound-wise) is as cool as the video explaining it.
I’m still mad it didn’t become yet another AMC theater.
umm you know the Dolby isnt a movie theatre right?
Its primarily a live venue, they have to reinstall a brand new screen each time they host a premiere, and remove it imeadiately After the premiere is done. As the Dolby is primarily a Venue for Iris and the Academy Awards.
You also realise it sits next door and across the street from two movie theatres right?
They are very limited as to the number of premieres they can host and the times they can host them. Cirques contract with CIM states there is to be no interferance in Iris’s performance schedule.
Aside from the Oscars set up and break down period each year. the only night open for premieres to take place is on Monday evenings.
Does this mean the Oscars will no longer sound like crap?
