EXCLUSIVE: Paramount Pictures has acquired Draft Day, a comic script by Rajiv Joseph and Scott Rothman that has Ivan Reitman attached to direct. Reitman will produce under his Montecito banner with Tom Pollock and Ali Bell. The script revolves around the general manager of the Buffalo Bills as he spends the day of the National Football League draft frantically trying to get the number one pick for his struggling team. Joseph is a Gotham-based playwright and was a 2010 Pulitzer finalist for his play Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo. He is currently a writer on the Showtime series Nurse Jackie. Rothman is also a New York-based scribe who sold his first script, First Timers, to New Line, and sold Frat Boy to Warner Bros with David Dobkin attached to produce. The writers were classmates at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, where each earned a Masters of Fine Arts in Dramatic Writing. David Beaubaire and Josh Phillips will oversee for the studio. Gersh reps Joseph and Rothman is repped by CAA and Kaplan Perrone Entertainment.

great script
I’d say the Bills GM has done a great job at trying to land the 1st overall pick by putting pathetic teams on the field year in year out. They’re just now getting it right do there was plenty of inspiration.
By snagging Mario Williams from the Texans, the Bills might not *need* a first overall pick.
Congrats to the guys. More white, male writers selling a spec.
Elia your schtick is getting tired. Women and writers of color are setting up projects all the time. If you took a little break from your screeds you might have noticed two inches above this article the announcement that a woman is a co-writer on JURASSIC PARK 4, one of the most prestigious gigs in town for which she will be paid obscene amounts of money. Wow, how did she manage to do that with a pair of breasts? It’s incredible!!!
Because she is partnered with a white male writer that’s how.
Calm down, Elia. Mr. Joseph is not ‘white’.
Yeah, men selling a script bought by a Woman who is a kickass pro – Ali Bell.
Try harder and maybe you’ll succeed, Elia. It ain’t the system, it’s you. The sooner you realize and accept that, the better your chances to improve are – but you gotta do the work.
I totally disagree with Kiper. But I agree this is a great script.
This guy gets it. The script is a 3rd pick at best though.
Disagree…to anyone who has actually watched a draft day special or seen the inner workings of a professional franchise, this script is completely inauthentic.
If by inauthentic you mean it’s a Hollywood comedy loosely based on a real life event…. stick to documentaries.
ditto greta: elia, rajiv is indian. i’ve known him for years. so call off the dogs and TRY to be happy for a nice guy who just broke into film. jeeeez.
@Chris Berman, have you seen this script? I’m guessing no, so how do you know its inauthentic. That being said, while you’re probably right, doesn’t mean the movie won’t be a good time.
Thats too bad! I really enjoyed moneyball and was looking forward to DraftDay
