Don Grady, best remembered as Robbie Douglas from My Three Sons and as one of The Mickey Mouse Club‘s original Mouseketeers, died today after battling cancer, according to his family. He was 68
. The San Diego native was 13 years old when he became a Mouseketeer in The Mickey Mouse Club. He went on to appear in several TV Westerns including Wagon Train, The Rifleman, Have Gun Will Travel and Dick Powell’s Zane Grey Theater. His biggest success came in 1960 when he was cast as middle son Robbie Douglas on the long-running TV show My Three Sons, starring Fred MacMurray, William Frawley and William Demarest. When the series ended in 1972, Grady pursued a career in his lifelong love, music, recording an album of his own material on the Elektra label titled Homegrown. Grady also starred in a national tour in Pippin, and had roles in the stage productions of Godspell and Damn Yankees.

I had the pleasure of getting to meet Don and he was so nice and down to earth and talented. His wife is lovely too. I sought him out to submit a theme song for DONAHUE where I was working in the late 80s and 90s. He did and it was chosen and was played for several years. It was wonderful. The news of his death is so very sad. May he rest in peace and may his family be comforted by their many good memories.
Loved you w/Annette on the ranch, and on My Three Son’s,hope you had a great life. RIP
I watch the show every morning at 7:30 on Me Tv it’s still funny.
I loved “My Three Sons” growing up. It depicted the house where I have always envisioned myself living in one day — a very nice, middle-class two-story. That day, unfortunately, has never happened for me — yet.
And, Robbie?! Oh my gosh! At 52-years’ of age now, myself, I know that he was about the best example of a male role model I had ever known while growing up. He was young, good-looking, responsible, and was a good husband to his loving TV-wife. He was the man I have ALWAYS envisioned meeting, falling in love with, and marrying one day. Alas, for me, that day has never, ever come.
I realize, now, that at the time I was watching him on TV while growing up, he was only about 16 years older than myself. But I just knew, at the time, when watching him on “My Three Sons,” that he was the man whom males should have chosen to be their role model. He, actually, I am realizing now, was the real male figure whom I knew to be the right one for me to find and marry. If I haven’t mentioned this, already, before, he was incredibly good-looking, very responsible, and family-oriented, and a very good husband to his wife (he was the only one on the show who was, actually, married!.
I hope he rests in peace wherever he might be now, and want him to know that there is a little piece of my heart which is going to miss him very much.
Hey, do you think he can come back down here on Earth and find me – his secret admirer — for life?! I hope so.
Fred (McMurray), you knew him better than me. Can you swing that for me?!
With love,
Julie
R.I.P Don Grady, Another great Person one who made many great memories for many people will never be forgotten.
So many good people from my childhood seem to be dying these days. My brothers and sister and I watched My Three Sons every week. Nothing but fond memories of this show…just great wholesome TV from the 60s. It’s so sad what a cesspool TV has turned into. RIP Don/Robbie. Condolences to the family and his dear friends.
RIP Don
So sad to hear of Don’s passing. Condolences to his wife and family. I was fortunate to play in Don’s band in the early 70′s, and recorded an album with him (“Home Grown”). He was always the nicest guy, and helped me with some of my own song demos back then. He was a dedicated musician and an all-around great guy. Even though I hadn’t seen him in some 40 years, I never forgot him either.
So sad to hear this news.
I hate reading about everyone dying, but this is the worst. I used to love My Three Sons.
Grew up in that tv era. Another piece of history and feelings.
God bless!!
I am blown away with this news and deeply saddened. I had the privilege of being in the band “Yellow Balloon” because of Don.
We shared some good adventures back then and those times will never be forgotten. My deepest condolences to his family. I know they must be devastated with this loss, Don was too young.
This world was better because don shared his gifts and loving heart with all of us. Love and blessings

I watched My Three Sons all the time as a young girl. Now I am watching it all the time on MeTv and am happy to say it brings back all the great memories of watching it as a child. I was so very sad to hear of Don Grady’s passing. I also watch Eight is Enough and really like Lani O Grady in that! I never knew they were related. They were my favorite characters on each show! A very sad day for his family and people who enjoyed his character in My Three Sons:) It is also sad that Lani passed away some years ago. Feeling very melancholy today! RIP to a wonderful actor and, from what I have read, person.
RIP Don, You Did Good
