The cracks are starting to show in The Glass House (1.2/3). The second week of ABC’s legally contested reality show was down 20% from its June 18 debut, which scored a 1.6/4. Opening ABC’s night at 8 PM, The Bachelorette (2.2/7) hit Prague but stumbled, down 4% from last week. That ties a series low for the search-for-love series.
Laying more groundwork for its Olympics coverage from London this summer, NBC had the U.S. Olympic Trials: Swimming (1.9/6) live from 8-9 PM. The network’s America’s Got Talent (3.0/8) rose 3% from last week, making it the No. 1 show Monday among adults 18-49 and total viewers with an audience of 10.41 million. NBC’s American Ninja Warrior (2.0/5) was flat with last week and tied — except for specials — its season low.
A bit of simmer on Fox’s Hell’s Kitchen (2.3/7) as the Gordon Ramsay series was down 8% from last week. At 9 PM, MasterChef (2.2/6) slipped 4% from last week. CBS had a night of repeats with How I Met Your Mother (1.1/4), 2 Broke Girls (1.3/4), Two And A Half Men (1.3/4), Mike & Molly (1.2/3) and Hawaii Five-O (1.2/3).

Glass House is unwatchable. It’s awful, and clearly a rip-off of Big Brother. After seeing two weeks of the show, I now agree that CBS was totally justified in their frustration. It feels like a blatant attempt to capture the Big Brother game play, but without any of the clever producing, game design, editing, etc, that BB does so well.
America’s Got Talent is great this season. I’m really enjoying it with Howard Stern. Love the dynamic between the three judges. Very good chemistry.
Now that Glass House is officially headed for the grave, when does Dancing On The Stars premiere?
Next up for ABC: How I Met Your Brother.
Maybe the reality era is on its last legs? It’s all the same, no matter the network. But, it’s cheap to produce and that’s all that matters to the “green eye shade” folks at the networks.
Dream on. This comment is typical from those who do not work in the genre. Reality is like any other kind of TV. There are great, well-produced shows and crappy ones. Get in the business – reality isn’t going anywhere.
I am with you, JK, there is a place for reality. Some shows are inspiring and edutaining. However, I’m surprised that there aren’t more impressiv, creative shows coming from the US. A gazillion dating shows and yet another lame Jersey Shore spin-off is embarrassing.
Look what Gordon Ramsay does elsehwere – GORDON BEHIND BARS. Now that’s fresh, exciting and interesting. Or compare the mean-spirited SHARK TANK to some of the other Dragon Dens and then look at what the Canadians did with Dragon Kevin O’Leary’s Ex-Con show that’s like THE APPRENTICE/DRAGONS DEN for ex-cons (and makes sense!). Or check out Dragon Jim Treliving’s show in which he evaluates and then helps struggling small businesses that can be saved. That’s more in tune with the climate right now and makes a hell of a lot more sense than to rip entrepreneurs and inventors off — and be nasty to the rest.
I love the concept of AMERICAN NINJA WARRIOR but could the editing be any worse? Or how they select and present their sob story contestants? I would LOVE to see a special edition — AMERICAN NINJA WARRIOR WOMEN. With female presenters, no sob stories. And appropriate obstacles, of course.
Every trend has a beginning, a middle and an end.
The Western once dominated network tv for twenty years and then eventually faded away.
In time Reality tv, like all trends, will do the same. It’s only a matter of when, not if.
I don’t know about the merits of CBS’ case, but it certainly looks like audiences realized The Glass House has a been there, done that feel.
I second your opinion!
I can’t believe how freaking bad The Glass House is! It’s so bad even my thoughts hurt. CBS had to have bribed those so called experts to desert to ABC just to get rid of them. It’s impossible for those so called experts to have failed so miserably if they had any talent at all. Even the set is horrible, In fact I can’t think of one thing that works. It has to be the worst TV show of all time, Its even worse that the worst movie of all time.
How can that a tie a series low when on May 28th Bachelorette had a 1.9?
ENOUGH OF THE – so called – “REALITY” SHOWS ALREADY! When will we start seeing more shows that support ‘talent’, such as actors, writers, directors, etc.? Shows that viewers WILL want to see. And the higher-ups wonder why no one’s watching these no-brainers. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. We’re not ALL dumb Americans you know.
Glass House is not indicative of all reality shows. Sorry the industry has been so cruel to you. I hope your career turns around.
I TRIED to watch Glass House. . it was horrible. Even if it wasn’t a blatant rip off of BB, it was just terrible. Nothing likeable.
watched glass house for 5 minutes. it’s unbelievably horrible and a blatant rip off of big brother. why the robot announcer?
oh – y’all want to go back to those SUPERIOR scripted shows? winners like… Are You There Chelsea? Charlie’s Angels? How To Be A Gentleman? I Hate My Teenage Daughter? Man Up? Pan Am? Playboy Club? Terra Nova?
scripted tv is boring and hack and that’s why we smart people stopped watching it. sorry, oldies, you can’t wish reality tv away any more than wishing hip-hop away.
Terra Nova was actually a good show and did well; it just had a ridiculously huge budget to produce all those dinosaurs. Not everything is cancelled because it’s crap.
I am wondering if The Glass House will stay on long enough for there to be a winner? The show has so many problems: the fast pace doesn’t allow for us to see relationships develop, the stupid robotic voice, the stupid tubes that send people in and out, etc. After two episodes, you still don’t have a clear idea how big the house is, how it is set up, who is rooming with who, etc. And the biggest problem is “America” deciding who leaves the competition. That makes it more focused on who you “like” versus who plays the game the best.
That’s why Big Brother took away America’s ability to vote after its own uneventful first season. America makes bad decisions and appreciates actual game play.
Told ya Glass House was going to fail…a blatant rip-off of the CBS drivel called Big Brother and surprised this show (Glass House) is still on the air. Those numbers are dreadful and maybe ABC needs to wake up and stop copying concepts from others.
I think what some ppl mean is that we would like scripted shows where the actors are into their roles. With reality tv, the characters/people are trying so hard to redo scenes or stand out that it ultimately looks like bad acting. So why not take those elements we love (relatability, talent, unique characters, etc) and create a show. Shows like Pan-Am, Charlies Angels’, etc may not have done well bc of the fact that ppl couldn’t relate to characters. Shows like Happy Endings, Scandal, etc. do well because the audience relates and the story lines are written well and of course the chemistry among the actors are great. Idk that’s just my opinion. However, there are still some reality shows that do well, i.e. dance moms, some RH shows, Vh1 shows, etc.
Glass House is stupid. can’t watch crappy shows like that. Very Cheesy. It will never make it. And yes..everything is cancelled because it’s crap.. people don’t watch crap shows which lead to declined viewing… Hello. Can’t wait to see Glass House become a Doe-Doe bird, just like Terra Nova was….
