EXCLUSIVE: Ray Winstone has been offered the role of Noah’s nemesis in the Darren Aronofsky-directed Biblical epic Noah. Negotiations are underway for Winstone to go mano a mano against Russell Crowe in the film, which also stars Logan Lerman, Douglas Booth and Emma Watson. I’m told that Aronofsky considered a number of actors — Val Kilmer was among them — but wanted a thesp with the grit and size to be convincing as he goes head to head against Crowe’s Noah character. And here I thought Noah’s main nemesis was bad weather. I expect this deal will work out. It’s a big job for Winstone, who’s coming off Snow White And The Huntsman and Hugo. Winstone has shown his macho chops though in films that include 44 Inch Chest, Sexy Beast and The Departed. Still to be cast by Aronofsky is Noah’s wife. I’d heard that Jennifer Connelly was among those being considered — she and Crowe starred together in A Beautiful Mind – but nothing has been decided. Noah is being co-financed by Paramount and New Regency. Winstone is repped by ICM Partners.

Ray Winstone as the villain? Granted, I haven’t read the source material in a while, but isn’t the bad guy in the story God?? After all, he’s the one committing genocide against the entire human race — pretty villainous move right there! Either way, I’m actually totally fine with Ray Winstone playing that role…he was great in Sexy Beast.
If I remember the book, the story is like PROMETHEUS except the ending is different.
Well done.
Nice.
Is it really genocide if you created that which you are destroying? And, I think it was more of a starting over type of move. If you build a lego house and decide to take it apart and start over, does that make you a villain?
Hmm….
First of all, people aren’t Legos. And yes, I’d say if you, as a human, founded your own country, say, then murdered everyone in it, you’d be committing genocide. Genocide is often seen as a “starting over type of move.” Or to be more precise, a “cleansing.”
Why couldn’t God have just snapped his fingers and made everyone except Noah disappear, if that’s what he wanted?
44 Inch Chest and Sexy Beast. Those are two of my favorite movies. Hopefully Ray Winstone gets this role! And I can’t believe they considered Val Kilmer for the role. I thought his days of being in big Hollywood blockbusters were over.
Val Kilmer deserves a comeback, something better than being the bad guy in MacGruber. He used to be an exciting actor. Kilmer should take a page from Alec Baldwin, who seems to be enjoying himself.
Actually the villain would be the rain clouds. Which this guy could play given his um…heft, lol. This just seems needless and eyerolling.I’m guessing he will play the city’s leader or such, doubting what Noah says is coming and trying to stop him?
Great get for this film…I’m truly excited to see this with this great, talented, and dignified cast.
Noah, huh? I wonder how the story will end?
Well, Lego people are plastic, so no. The distinction between real humans and little plastic figures is, granted, a fine one, but I think it holds up regardless.
