David O Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook stars Bradley Cooper as a teacher who is institutionalized for depression and released into the care of his mother. He ends up falling for an unstable woman — played by Jennifer Lawrence, who won the part that was coveted around town. (Cooper, by the way, stepped in to replace Mark Wahlberg.) Robert De Niro and Chris Tucker co-star. The movie is based on Matthew Quick’s novel. The Weinstein Co released a trailer today ahead of the film’s November 21 release.

Chris Tucker was AMAZING in that trailer!!!
The premise sounds like a spoof of Oscar-bait movies. Oscar the Grouch-bait movies.
I don’t get it. Weinstein makes great movies, O’Russell is awesome, Cooper is awesome, Lawrence is awesome, Bobby is awesome, why does this look so terrible? Script was pretty bad, but in their collective hands, they couldn’t improve it? This looks like an Anchor Bay release that no one else at a festival wanted to buy. What gives?
this trailer is great. Can’t wait to see it.
No one is going to see this. Cooper is awesome, but his character has no appeal, he’s not funny or cool in any way, he’s someone you want to get away from, not see what they’re going to do next. It’s too much, not funny in any way. Lawrence is also awesome, but she also seems more creepy than engaging. It’s a complete mis-fire.
This looks really good. Trailer felt like it went an extra 20 seconds, but I liked it overall. I hope it lives up to the trailer.
And before you ask, No, I am not high, on the Weinstein payroll or in any way tied to the positive or negative results of the the film. Just a guy who liked the trailer.
Rooting for it, but it was a great book, and a bad screenplay.
hmmmm…. jury is out on this one. not sure how to feel bout it. it is, after all, just a trailer. has an adam sandler “reign on me” meets “Rachel’s Wedding” emotional maelstrom with psychotics kinda feel.
and I’m with the other poster here who feels that Chris Tucker did a bravura turn in this trailer (eyes rolling). (Sheesh — Ernest Hemingway got more screen time in this trailer than Chris Tucker — and he’s dead!)
that said, jennifer lawrence looks lovely even when she plays a played out, worn down head case. great actress!
I saw a screening of this and it was kind of meh for me. I heard great things from a couple of others who attended an earlier screening so I was left disappointed. I can see Weinstein pushing for acting noms but I don’t think they’ll stick.
This looks bad. I mean, the script was bad, and there wasn’t a genuinely funny line in this. And the Cooper/Lawrence pairing is just weird.
Love JL, but not paired with Cooper. Not encouraged by the trailer.
A hot mess.
This looks terrible. Bradley Cooper has been okay in things like WEDDING CRASHERS, but LIMITLESS was terrible (not completely his fault, but he didn’t do himself any favors) and he looks completely hollow in this. You’re telling me he was institutionalized because he made one facial expression throughout that entire clip? Chris Tucker saying something vaguely urban really gets the nimrods going I guess. Old and confused mailing it in De Niro doesn’t excite me? Jennifer Lawrence is feisty pixie chick, great. Stick her in something interesting instead of this whitepeopleproblems stuff.
Cooper gets nom. Lawrence wins. Hate all you want.
execs at rival studios talking like it’s a done deal.
You couldn’t be more of an obviously plant if you tried.
The poor box office of lack of nominations will speak for themselves.
Lawrence has a gift. Cooper is a great guy, and is talented. The director has a gift. But the book was okay, the script very thin and lacking. So excited, then we get…this? Come on. Weinstein Company can do much better.
if that’s so, it’s b/c of big Harv not them. The guy won best picture with a silent french film last year. he can do whatever he wants when it comes to awards. notice how rudin doesn’t even show up to the awards anymore??
Excited for this. Could be a great role for Bradley.
The book was great.
Sure, this movie doesn’t look like blockbuster material. There aren’t any car crashes or superheroes. But it seems interesting and well-crafted.
Just because there aren’t any car crashes or superheroes doesn’t make it a good movie. The screenplay was blah and the talent can’t save what is obviously a not very good film. It’s creepy, and the little humor in it is really forced. No real heart in this, just manufactured. This is often what happens when you adapt a book.
Looks great. Lawrence and Cooper have wonderful chemistry…so, yeah, I’m gonna see this!!.
Weird.
What did the trailer did for me is… reveal that the script is weak and that they didn’t hire the right actors (with the right acting style & timing) to pull off the weak script. Disappointed. Fan of both actors, really hoped that this would be a strong one.
Though on second thought, Jennifer seems to be pulling it off more than Bradley. Look forward to seeing her work in more projects… Still. Disappointed. man.
Chris Tucker is BACK! Finally!
Seems like a lot of agendas with these comments. The actors are good, the actors are bad, the actors have chemistry, the actors have no chemistry, the script is good, the script is bad, etc. And that’s just the trailer.
Oh yeah, there are agendas (LOL!) especially from those plants out of rival studios that are worried about the very good buzz circulating about the film. Oscar season will be here before you know it and Lawrence is looking like a strong bet for Best Supporting Actress. The svreenplay will also be nominated as well. At least that’s what I’m hearing. It’s well deserved …especially for Jennifer Lawrence, who is fantastic in this film.
I agree…agendas!
At the very least, the less than 3 min clip looks intriguing…and that’s what a clip is for, right??? haha
I mean, if you’re not a fan of the book, script or actors, why are you checking out the clip anyway??
I, along with many I’m certain, have the release date noted and marked to see!
