SATURDAY PM, 6TH UPDATE: Based on new numbers coming in, my sources now say Universal’s #1 film Snow White And The Huntsman (3,773 theaters) came in at $20.3M
Friday and bumped up to $21.5M Saturday. That makes for $56.1M this domestic weekend. The result is better than expected for the 2D original fantasy actioner that cost $172M and didn’t have the benefit of a 3D premium or franchise recognition. Despite decent reviews, audiences gave the PG-13 movie a so-so ‘B’ CinemaScore which could have affected word of mouth but didn’t. (As evidenced by the Friday to Saturday jump.) There’s a palpable sense of relief around Universal Pictures and even Hollywood now that the Charlize Theron-Kristen Stewart-Chris Hemsworth starrer directed by first-timer Rupert Sanders and produced by Joe Roth is showing promise at the domestic box office. Because it follows on the heels of May’s very disappointing domestic on Universal’s Battleship and April’s The Five Year Engagement – two films specifically criticized by parent company Comcast chief Brian Roberts to Wall Street as big “misses” affecting earnings.
Here’s the the Top 5 based on North America’s weekend estimates:
1. Snow White And The Huntsman (Universal) NEW [3,773 Theaters]
Friday $20.3M, Saturday $21.5M, Weekend $56.1M, International $39.3M
2. Men In Black 3 (Columbia/Sony) Week 2 [4,248 Theaters]
Friday $8.1M (-54%), Saturday $12M, Weekend $28M, Cume $111M
3. The Avengers (Marvels/Disney) Week 5 [3,670 Theaters]
Friday $5.6M, Saturday $9.0M, Weekend $19.8M, Cume $541.5M
6. Battleship (Universal) Week 3 [3,144 Theaters]
Friday $1.3M, Saturday $2.1M, Weekend $4.7M, Cume $55.0M
5. The Dictator (Paramount) Week 3 [2,649 Theaters]
Friday $1.4M, Saturday $1.9M, Weekend $4.6M, Cume $50.0M
My sources say that overseas Snow White opened in 45 territories and was the #1 movie in 30 territories and especially strong in Latin America and Asia. It will gross $39.3M this weekend, which is on a par with The Hunger Games‘ $38M and better than Twilight‘s $30M, for a $95.1M worldwide cume. Highlights include Mexico $1M at 588 dates and 48% market share, ($900K at 393 dates and 51% market share), Germany ($1.5M at 618 dates in 2 days), UK ($1M at 476 dates and with previews total is $2.6M (where the movie was overwhelmed by Fox’s Prometheus. See below). ”The UK has two national holidays and school holidays next week and 5 weeks as counter-programming to the Euro Cup, so we expect the film to have a long run,” a Uni exec emailed me. Snow White has 18 territories including Australia, France, Italy, Japan and Russia to open over the next two months. It’s now safe to say that Snow White is breaking the post-Avengers early summer slump which has claimed 5 straight major studio releases so far because the Marvel mega-blockbuster was sucking all the air out of domestic box office. Insiders now expect the movie’s internationalcume to ultimately earn $250M-$275M all-in. “We’ll make money with the movie which we really care about. No one can rag us this week,” a Uni exec said to me this morning.
Snow White’s midnight screenings in 1,092 theaters bear that out: they grossed an encouraging $1.383M. That’s a far better per-screen average for the non-3D/non-sequel movie than last weekend’s slow-to-start Men In Black 3 which took in $1.550M midnights from 2,232 theaters even with the 3D premium and sequel marketing advantage. Universal had done an excellent job in lowering expectations for its big early summer tentpole. Tracking for weeks now had been underperforming and the studio kept telling everybody it expected only a $38M-$42M domestic opening weekend. That result would have been devastating to the studio and its execs. But tracking has been hinky for months and even a year now, as true sages of Hollywood box office know well. This morning Snow White‘s tracking took a dramatic uptick at the end of this week and finished strong. ”Given the way the tracking has been, it was very difficult to project the scope of any opening for any film in the marketplace this season: good, bad, or indifferent,” a Uni exec tells me today.
Fox’s Prometheus is having “a fantastic start” internationally this weekend before it opens in North America next Friday, according to the studio. The scifi film opened head-to-head with Snow White in the UK. Today Fox said Prometheus is 319% of the Snow White opening there, and 161% of both Snow White and holdover Men In Black 3. It’s also the biggest opening day for a Ridley Scott film ever in the UK. “We have had a superb start with Prometheus opening a clear No. 1 grossing £2.2m ($3.39M). This includes an estimated £200k ($306K) from special midnight screenings on Thursday.” A high 76% is from 3D, which includes 6.74% from IMAX. Most of the IMAX shows were only playing one evening performance on top of MIB3 because Sony had a 2-week agreement with IMAX digital. The two x70mm IMAX sites (Southbank in London and Manchester) played all day and reported every show including lates were sold out in advance. The foreign cume for Wednesday and Thursday in the eight markets released there was $5.5M. In addition to the UK, countries Turkey, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Latvia opened Friday.
Related: Marvel’s The Avengers #3 Film Of All Time
Disney announced this morning that Marvel’s The Avengers became the third highest grossing film yesterday domestically passing The Dark Knight ($533M), and the third highest grossing film globally passing Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2 ($1,328M). But these records are not adjusted for higher ticket prices, inflation, or 3D premiums. The Avengers‘ estimated cumulative performance to date as of Friday is international $793.2M and domestic $538.1M for a worldwide cume of $1,331.3M. It currently stands as the #5 film of all-time internationally (#4 is Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides with $803M). Domestically, it crossed $500M in just 23 days, setting a new speed record overtaking Avatar which took 32 days.
Other new movie grosses were Arc Entertainment’s For Greater Glory (575 theaters) with $580K Friday for an estimated $1.5M weekend. The Weinstein Co/Dimension’s Piranha 3DD (86 theaters) opened with $69K Friday for a $179K weekend. And Brian & Barrett/Cinedigm’s Battlefield America (180 theaters) debuted with $40K Friday for a $118K weekend. As for overall moviegoing, the weekend is looking like $135M, down -13% from last year.
Here’s the rest of the Top 10:
6. What To Expect When… (Warner Bros) Week 3 [2,907 Theaters]
Friday $1.4M, Weekend $4.5M, Cume $31.1M
7. The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (Fox Searchlight) Week 5 [1,294 Theaters]
Friday $1.2M, Weekend $4.4M, Cume $25.7M
8. Dark Shadows (Warner Bros) Week 4 [3,002 Theaters]
Friday $1.0M, Weekend $3.6M, Cume $70.6M
9. Chernobyl Diaries (Alcon/Warner Bros) Week 2 [2,433 Theaters]
Friday $1.0M (-70%), Weekend $2.8M, Cume $14.2M
10. For Greater Glory (Arc Entertainment) NEW [575 Theaters]
Friday $585K, Weekend $1.5M
FRIDAY 4:30 PM, 2ND UPDATE: Universal just upped its North American box office estimates for Snow White And The Huntsman to $19M-$21M for today and $50M-$56M for this weekend.
FRIDAY 1 PM UPDATE: My sources are estimating that Friday’s opening looks like $17M to $19M, and the three-day weekend is shaping up as $48M to $52M. Snow White And The Hunstman‘s midnight screenings in 1,092 theaters bear that out: they grossed a promising $1.383M. That’s a far better per-screen average for the non-3D/non-sequel movie than last weekend’s slow-to-start Men In Black 3 which took in $1.550M midnights from 2,232 theaters even with the 3D premium and sequel marketing advantage.

I am seeing for the story and because it has two women in the lead which does not happen often in Hollywood movies. The guys have been getting all their “guys” movies with men as the lead so this one is for women.
I don’t care about the sex of the lead.
For a good story, I’d accept dual-sexuality.
I think SNOW WHITE will have a healthy weekend. Proof that solid execution of a known brand can succeed (BATTLESHIP, I’m looking at you).
I wish those constantly talking about “brand” when they are talking about movies would get the fool’s sign branded on their foreheads.
And, in regard to your screen name, the ancient text is called Beowulf, not Biowulf.
I am surprised.. but you never know. I think MIB 3 had disappointing numbers. Especially considering it was in 3D and load of screens. I am sick of 3D for no other reason then to up the money. Well the audience is turning away too.
not sure if anything will get me to the theater this weekend. Maybe next weekend.
The first word of mouth I’m hearing is positive and the New York Times gave it a decent review, which means I will go see it. I was hoping it would be good because I’m totally attracted to seeing an adventure movie with two strong female roles, and I love Charlize Theron. I hope, hope, hope the script is good because the visuals look gorgeous. Plus, I actually like Kristen Stewart. Not from Twilight, but I really enjoyed her performances in Into the Wild and The Runaways. I am pleased that a non-remake, non-3D, non-sequel with strong heroines is looking to outperform crud like Battleship. I guess I’m not the only one eager for summer popcorn fun with at least a tiny bit of originality.
Right. “better than expected”. You mean better than those obvious low ball numbers Universal threw out when it was clear this wasn’t going to hit the $70-80 million they were hoping for a few weeks ago? Or the $100 million they were hoping for when they approved this budget? Please, they’ve SATURATED the market with advertising and this has a $175 million budget. It needed much higher than $50 million to break even.
I agree. Better than expected? Please. Universal are a bunch of idiots. After all the flops and losses the studio suffered, they went right ahead and gave an unknown director $170 million budget and then spent another $50-$100 million on promotion. Please learn from THE HUNGER GAMES. Lionsgate only spent $79 million on the film and gave us a better quality film than Snow White. The film had no plot or substantial acting. Hunger Games is an example of how you can still make a GOOD film with an action heroine and a small budget and still come out victorious. I watched Snow White. In fact I was really excited but it was a poor man’s Lord of the Rings. The promos lead you to think there’s a lot of action but there really isn’t.
Any movie adaption of The Hunger Games by any studio and with any lead actors would had made money because the books are good. Plain and simple. Get over yourself.
I went in with great hope but the film disappoint in almost every way it could. No sense of humor and a fragile lead (Stewart) topples the film.
Where’s Katniss when you need her?
the whole point of the movie in a lot of ways was that snow white was fragile, she wasn’t the chick who was living in the woods survivalist style and who was hardened. She’s a little princess from a locked tower who has to put her big girl panties on and fight back, even if it’s not in her nature.
the movie was disappointing in terms of script and a lack of coherent storyline though, I’ll give you that. I thought when the three leads were finally given something to do, they did well. The problem was the they were asked to do little more than screech(charlize), wield and ax(Thor), or smile at woodland creatures(Kristen).
You need to get over Katniss and embrace other fictional characters with their different stories, strengths and weaknesses. Otherwise go watch Katniss over and over and then have nothing intelligent to contribute to conversations such as in this blog..
Katniss could have helped you write a better response.
lmao…
SWATH looks good, Dir. Rupert Sanders is amazing with visuals. It also has an amazing cast, but let’s be honest, the only reason this film isn’t catching on is because of people’s hatred for Kristen Stewart. I don’t know how or why anyone would let 1 actress prevent them from seeing a great pre-Summer film.
BTW – Kirsten Stewart IS a good actress, just watch any of her non-Twilight films.
Well, I think Kristen Stewart is an okay actress (not great, not terrible) but I do agree with you on one part. The level of vitriol directed towards her is a bit ridiculous (people act like she killed their kitten and then kicked every puppy on the street). What I find terribly ironic and sexist is that she is accused of being ungrateful because she isn’t a smiley type of girl, but her co-star is the one who at times has criticized the Twilight series. If someone think this looks like a good movie but won’t see it only because of Kristen Stewart…In my opinion, that person needs to learn how to separate an actor from their public persona. Also, one can appreciate a film as a whole without liking an individual actor or actress.
I agree with you. I noticed that people contributing to blogs develop insane hatred toward this or that actor and that they tend to confuse the actor with the roles he/she plays. After all, they have to adhere to the script, otherwise what is the director there for? I live in a European country and our reputable critics normally do not normally touch upon the actors’ performance, unless it is really commendable. And they normally do not compare the various performances in the film (xyz was excellent, abc was merely decent or lousy). They mostly dwell on the aesthetic and emotional appeal of the film and on the technical aspects. I am also surprised how people follow critics’ advice and word of mouth as if it were the divine verb. Don’t people ever suspect that the intent is manipulative? I only watched Twilight 1 on TV and thought it was not bad aesthetically. I did notice though that Stewart is quite watchable and not a bad actress at all.
A lot of critics have collectively agreed that Stewart was a miscast. Nothing against her but I do think she doesn’t fit the role. I wish her all the best though. I agree that a lot of people, especially a lot of people I know, don’t want to watch this movie and are staying as far away as possible from this movie because of her. I think if they had hired someone else, maybe the movie would have made a lot more because it does look visually stunning.
Yea, that’s ashame because I wasn’t sure she could pull it off, but I loved her in it. This is a good move her. She won me over.
There’s not a consensus she was miscast. Her performance was polarizing, so there isn’t even a consensus on how well she did. The main consensus I’ve seen was that it’s beautiful, but lacking a strong narrative and identity.
This movie is a HIT because of Kristen Stewart. We already had one snow white flop, with lily collin’s and Julia Roberts, and armie hammer, etc – what I can’t believe is that no one, certainly none of the jealous blowhard usual hater suspects of Stewart’s on these boards will acknowledge the truth: that the only reason this film is making the money it is, is in large part due to HER. Or maybe you wantto list the last film Charlize Theron has opened? This was Kristen Stewart’s test to see if SHE could opena wide releases that was NOT Twilight. She has. End of story.
Hahaha How delusional can you get? It is a big production and it is supposed hava a big opening, would be a big number no matter who is casted. Charlize movies are indies or small budget productions. Get real
WRONG. You sound naive, bahaha. Whats this, “It’s a big production, it’s supposed to have big numbers,” bullshite?!! Hahaha. Go tell it to “John carter,” or miss aeon flux herself, Charlize Theron. Hollywood graveyards are littered, almost on a monthly basis with big budget FLOPS. Get a clue. Are you one of those 12 yr old (or 35 yr old) mean girl freaks attacking Stewart because she’s with their fantasy lust object pattinson? Grow up nutbag.
I went out and spent $11 to see this movie hoping it would be this epic and very well acted entertaining film. The visuals looked amazing in the tv spots and teasers but damnn do I regret spending my money on this sh!t. The movie does NOT live up to the expectations. First of all, the acting was not that great (aside from Charlize Theron), and the accents were horrible of all three leads (no offence Charlize, I still love you). The movie was way too long and I was honestly getting bored in the midst. The biggest problem I had with the film was the CHEESE. The cheesy music playing whenever the camera focused on Kristen Stewart, which was CONSTANTLY, going “she is the ONE”. It getting blatantly annoying. Universal has another flop on their hand and it serves them right. Why in the world would they give a new unknown director a $175 million budget? Crazy.
I actually thought Charlize was pretty weak with her performance. Not her fault, we all know she can act. All she did though was stand around in the same room looking depressed or else screeching at her brother.
Nina, I agree with you that Theron’s entire performance was not as terrific as some think. Theron was fine doing chilly, cold, calculating stares but when she screamed it was an over-the-top melodramatic screech. I didn’t like when she spoke the “mirror, mirror on the wall stuff” because it was too recital. .
Awful movie. It’s over 2 hours and a complete waste of time. Totally disappointed by how bad it was because I had a lot of expections from the trailers. Not as good as it looked like.
I’m saving my money for “ABE LINCOLN IS SNOW WHITE”
LMAO word up!
Those are solid numbers for Snow White, especially since it doesn’t have the advantage of being a sequel or 3D. It’s nice to see that the female lead of Twilight is the first of the main cast to have a non Twi #1 movie at the box office. Good for Charlize as well since her movies have struggled at the box office in the past.
You are ignoring the fact that she’s the only one from Twilight to be in a blockbuster with a budget of 175 million and on a weekend with no other wide releases.
It’s not her fault that big studios don’t hire Rob and Taylor anymore after WFE and Abduction’s flop.
It is pathetic when Stewart fans have to insult her costars to try to make her look better. Water for Elephants made over 117 million on a 38 million budget which is very profitable. And you have no idea what the studios are doing, don’t be pathetic. With a 175 million budget, you should worry about Stewart’s movie instead of trashing her costars.
You are ignoring the fact that most people can tell you’re a troll. Run along.
^truthbetold ftw. Stewart’s star will fade, but Pattinson and Taylor specialize in non-starters. People tend to forget Stewart was actually paying her dues long before Twilight, and she wasn’t half-bad, either: Good performances in Panic Room and Into the Wild. She was good in Adventureland, too.
Also, I’m amazed so many people on this board are having difficulty with elementary Hollywood arithmetic. You still haven’t learned the studios don’t keep 100% of the receipts? This isn’t IMDb, people. Sheesh.
Two words for you: aeon flux.
Universal had done an excellent job in lowering expectations for its big early summer tentpole….universal isn’t stupid. after battleship they lower expectations of this, and then turn around and say it beat expectations.
Yes, however this is not a bomb and for that they should be thankful as hell. It was a weird concept and it didn’t have Tim Burton/Johnny Depp, just three actors who have never carried a box office on their own outside of a film with a guaranteed following. The theater keeps fifty percent after the first two weeks. For the first two weeks, the theater keeps fifteen to twenty percent. The marketing on this was not eighty million million no matter which way people try to spin it. They spent a lot, but not eighty million–financially, that makes no sense and most studios don’t spend half the budget despite whatever some of the comments on here are saying. Let’s say it makes fifty five million domestic, another sixty million overseas (these types of films play like gangbusters in Russia, etc.) opening weekend. It will reach a total gross of three hundred and fifty million…enough to break even and recoup a small profit.
I was a victim of this movie just like millions of people will be as it is expected to make $50 million over the weekend. The trailers for this movie actually looked great. How sad. If they spent over $170 million on a budget of CGI-visuals, why not spend some more money on a GOOD script and editing? The plot was ridiculous, the accents were awful, and the pace of the movie was too slow. Was expecting a better film.
STOP TROLLING!Jesus. What is it about Kristen Haters that they can’t help but run around the internet and post everytime a project of hers is successful. Listen troll, no one is changing their opinion of SWATH because of your lunatic post. It’s a bonafide hit! Get over it. Stop fronting.
Really?
So if this movie had opened opposite Prometheus, it would still be a hit?
Good lord, you Twi-hard Kristen lovers will do anything to spin her failures off as successes, won’t you?
Robert Pattinson’s fans are flooding every comment box they can find with their hate. And the irony is that SWATH will make in its first weekend more than the next 6 Rob Pattinson’s movies will make all together.
No one cares about your Rob Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. Both are mediocre and overrated and Twilight sucks. Go cry in a corner now.
wow “jeff” you sure spend enough time looking up what he is doing next.
My son and daughter begged me to take them. They are in elementary school and want to see it cause it looks scary, but not SAW scary. I thought the movie needed a better script and a better director, but they loved it. My son is going to watch it(he’s
again with one of his friends’ families. I think this may be a sort of movie where kids want to see it cause it seems edgey and dark for them, and parents will go for it cause it doesn’t look grating like Madagascar 8.
Supposedly women is suppose to make up the larger share of viewers. Will be interesting to see just how the numbers break down.
If you spent half as much time complaining about other folks’ work then maybe you would make something worth while to see or at least know how hard it is to make these films. No one sets out to make a bad or mediocre movies – we work our asses off. Let’s hope SW does well so we can all get out of this year’s slump. BTW MIB3 was just fine for what it needed to be.
I went to see it as I’m a big Charlize fan. It met all my expectations and then some. I loved this movie and people who are commenting that haven’t seen it should just shut it. I’m not a fan but, I have nothing against Kristen Stewart and at times feel bad that so many hate her. Why is that? Because she isn’t the typical fake smiley, fake boobs, slept her way into movies Hollywood girl? Anyway, she held her own against Charlize which is saying something, although Charlize stole the movie from everyone. My word of mouth is that it is a good movie. My theater was full and lots of guys there, couples, families, singles. Everyone applauded at the end and left smiling, even the guys..what a surprise from that quarter. I would not call this movie a flop, not from what I saw.
Is Snow White as violent as it was hyped to be with the LOTR comparisons that were intended to attract the male audience? If not, it might be time to correct those misperceptions with the public. I know many people who are keeping their 10-12 year old daughters from seeing this movie because it’s been hyped as an adult fairy tale, or a non-fairy tale, in this case.
If it is LOTR levels of violent, then there’s nothing you can do, but if that was spin, it might be time to un-spin it.
It’s not really violent at all. after a friend of mine tipped me off of this from seeing a midnight showing, I gave into my 8 and 10 year old kids to see it. They were fine, they see more violence on tv. You hit on something though- a lot of their friends want to see it cause it seems dark and scary, so the tween set makes sense to appeal to.
Then Universal should consider getting the word out to audiences that it’s not that violent, so parents with kids slightly younger than 13 will go see Snow White.
Adults and teen-agers will be distracted with Prometheus by next weekend. If Universal starts a WOM campaign on blogs and morning shows, and builds up the fact that it’s more family friendly than people realized, it could open a secondary market for younger families by next weekend for Snow White.
Every studio wants a big opening weekend, I get that, but there’s still a lot of cash to be made after that time. Just look at what Airbender did last year.
lol, of course universal is going to up their expectations. this is great pr. the reviews were mixed, and the budget is said to be 170 which is way more then what the director said. there is nothing out this wkend but this movie, and usually these movies do well in the boxoffice. next wkend there is promethus and madagascar 3. overseas in some countries snow white came out with promethus. let’s see if this movie has legs or will be front loaded. many of the blockbusters are about to be coming out.
I don’t understand all the hate. I saw it and thought it was a ridiculous amount of fun. Great performances all round. Looked amazing. Sure, it was a little bit slow in the middle, BUT the VISUALS are absolutely INSANE.
Hope it does great business.
The script was an undercooked ham to begin with. Uni should never had bought it. I guess you get what you pay for.
I posted on last weeks box office numbers thread I thought this SWATH would do around 60 million based on no tracking information. I was just going by the trailer and its competition.
It looks like based on the early returns(if they hold up) it could go as high as 65 million plus, because I’d envisioned a larger than normal bump for this film on Saturday. After a string of bombs people are looking for something to go to the theaters that is semi-tolerable with production value and this film looks like it has wide appeal. I think they will trick enough males to put it over the edge of 60 million, of course the Twilight types are going to be the huge bulk and for Saturday, families will go do to lack of appropriate films.
Of course this film based on word of mouth will not have any legs and should drop 65 percent next week. How was this type of film given that huge a budget, with Robin Hood, Your Highness, Season of the Witch type of films. Too depressing, people are used to green screen CGI.
the majority of twihards hate kristen stewart. She has a very fervent following within the twihard community, but they are the definite minority. Twihards on teh whole did not like her as Bella Swan, and a lot of them don’t appreciate her allegedly dating edward cullen on top of it. In fact, a one of the twihard communities actually started a letter writing campaign to the studio that released Robert Pattinson’s “Water For Elephants”–insisting that they ban Kristen from his premiere.
So don’t expect twihard dollars en masse supporting this picture.
All that hate towards a young actress who had great performances before Twilight and who stayed out of the spotlight until had not choice due to Twilight is a terrifying reflection of the sad and pathetic state of some young American females. It may not be the young females’ faults having been brought up on hating anything that is not like them, and to look up to fictional characters or entertainers as their role models by lazy parents.
Witness the ‘crazed hater,’ type with ‘Carly’s,’ post above. Except she’s wrong on a couple very important counts: 1) Snow White is a bonafide hit that the Twi fans did indeed support and 2) Kristen’s mad cow jealous haters are the ones in the minority. The girl is BELOVED online, and Robert and she together are BELOVED also, to a fanatical extent. Carly, is one of the freaks that spends her time spreading disingenuous commentary and false b.s. from site to site. Kristen’s level of intense fascinated attention, fandom and haterdom mirror Angelina Jolie’s…and Kristen is headed for a similar career and super stardom – and like Angelina, Kristen is proving she too, can OPEN a film, unlike say, a Theron, who’s been in the business 15 years and hasn’t done it yet.
As for the rest of Carly’s cracked out post: she don’t know JACK. Kristen is the draw, PERIOD. Attn industry people who also don’t know jack about the way a certain cross segment of females spend their time and money, and don’t really put in the time to CARE: There’s a reason why #SWATH was trending, and why this movie is a big HIT – it’s the same reason why #Happy Birthday Kristen! was trending a couple weeks ago, and why #Robsten trends, and why #Robsten Kissing in Cannes trends – the reason is: KRISTEN STEWART. Stewart has a huge fan base that originated with Twilight, and most definitely IS the majority NOT the minority. A quick Google search and you’ll see why – dedicated sites to her AND Rob Pattinson, and a rabid, supportive fan base. Go to Youtube and put in, ‘Robsten,’ – thousands of slobbering fandom, odes to their luuurve. lol
Kristen, up until now, outside of Twilight, has never really been tested re her box office draw, because her movies were indies that opened in a handful of theaters around the country or that did the festival circuits. The industry wondered just what she was going to be able to do with an actual wide releasing popular film built to make money. Well, she’s passed with FLYING colors. Don’t let anyone tell you, this was anyone’s test BUT Kristen Stewart’s.
As for the other twi-cast: Robert Pattinson, likewise, had yet to truly be tested, having made films that released somewhat wide, but that were either genre specific chic flicks or straight drama which cut out the kind of draw that an actioner/suspense film does…his films, like Stewart’s indies, really weren’t designed to do massive cross appeal to an audience. HOWEVER, I have no doubt should he decide to do something ‘fantastical,’ or an action flick, he too – as well, could pull similar numbers.
Kristen Stewart will be a major star for decades to come. She’s an industry mainstay for the long haul. Deal with it, people who hate her and overlook her talent because of Twilight.
Battleship and Snow White had the same RT rating. You guys bashed Battleship for being horrible but I thought it was a fun summer film. Snow White could have been fun if it didn’t try so hard to take it self too seriously and be epic. I thought the movie was alright. Not too bad, not too good.
