Last night’s premiere of TNT’s Dallas reboot drew 6.863 million viewers to rank as the No. 1 scripted series premiere on cable so far this year and outperform the broadcast networks from 9-11 PM last night. At TNT, it was the third-most-watched series debut behind Raising The Bar (7.7 million) and Rizoli & Isles (7.6 million), and ahead of last year’s Falling Skies (5.9 million). Like Falling Skies, Dallas was a self-starter while Raising The Bar and Rizzoli & Isles launched behind TNT flagship The Closer.
With Dallas, TNT is aiming at having the top-rated new summer series launch for a third consecutive summer, following Rizzoli & Isles in 2010 and Falling Skies in 2011. Despite being based on an 1980s staple, the Dallas reboot was not too old skewing; it drew 1.926 million viewers among adults 18-49 and 2.482 million in 25-54, slightly down from the 2.1 million (18-49) and 2.7 million (25-54) for the Rizzoli & Isles premiere. (The Falling Skies debut is far ahead with 2.64 million 18-49s.)

On iTunes it’s already posted the second episode of the series. the dallas reboot is regular, I guess. If it weren’t for the legacy, I doubt it would pass as the next best thing…
It’s worth noting that the premieres of Raising the Bar and Rizzoli & Isles had a new episode of The Closer as a lead-in. Dallas was (in comparison) a self-starter.
Not too old skewing? Less than a third of its viewers were 18-49, and slightly over a third were 25-54. Two thirds were 55 and over… that’s old-skewing.
who did you think was going to watch it ? twenty somethings ? I doubt it.They’re going after the audience that watches TV
No, I expected even lower 18-49 numbers… my point is that this article claims it was “not too old skewing,” even though it clearly is.
advertisers are now waking uo to the fact that 18 to 25 year olds in this economy don’t have jobs nor money. The older folk has the money to spend.
Awesome. Now please bring Victoria Principle back!
Victoria so needs to be there…she looks better than ever too!
As a guy who had the privilege of doing a couple of small roles when “Dallas” was the biggest show on television, I was wondering if after these many years, a “Dallas” revival would be good or disappointing. Once Larry Hagman’s “J.R.” got going, my question was answered; Yes, in this case, you CAN “come home again”! I LOVED it!
Dallas is just as exciting as it ever was. Jr is still the one that makes the show!!!! His son John Ross is a chip off of the block too!!! Love to see JR and John Ross together or butting heads!!!
Like I told Miss Ellie, AMAZING that our +70 year old something kids all have 20 year old something simps as kids. Man, we would have culled this herd in my time!
Poor JR looks older than I do– and I’m DEAD!!!
Bobby not only about to get REAL painful surgery , but his one note, prune faced delivery of dialogue looks like he’s got a derrick stuck up his tush!
SueEllen— now we developed BOTOX at Ewing Oil, but we never imagined that it would take the place of soap. Poor SueEllen so Botoxed that her 15 year old face no match for her 80 year old bod!
Like Cliff Barnes used to tell me at the Cattlemens’ Club— AND she smells like fish!!!
Anywho, the kiddies are all physically buffed and mentally drained— not a Brando or a PeeWee Herman in the carload. Stuck with grandchillen who have NO clue.
DALLAS, SHEEEIITTT, should have fiimed this bomb at the Cowboy’s parking lot at low tide.
Like I always told my kids— I’m interesting, you ain’t!!!
It’s apparent, you must be perfect. What a joy for others around you. Wonder what they say about you when you’re not around. Think about it.
I have nothing to do with this new show; just enjoyed it.
If you look at the original series, John Ross would be 34 and Christopher 33.
actually Christopher would be 31.there is an episode from Season of 5 of Dallas that shows his birth certificate and it’s dated February 1981.
first – nice to see ratings success for all those involved with the show. Also funny how the only time the show was good was when the old cast was on the screen – the new cast was painful to watch.
But please TNT – hire better directors / dps / editors – it looked like amateur hour.
That’s because agents are not interested in finding good actors (some exceptions to the rule exist). It’s all about finding a face/headshot I can sell. That their talent is mediocre matters not. With a good director they become okay. With a bad director it becomes, as you said, painful to watch.
It’s okay of someone is good looking, but they should still have talent. Look at Michelle Pfieffer. Gorgeous, but talented. Alec Baldwin–good looking (okay early Baldwin), but talented.
Times have changed. TV is a product. It’s TMZ. It’s reality shows where your only requirement is to be attractive–never mind you offer nothing in personality or as a person (dead behind the eyes Kardashians). The line gets blurred. Soon, attractive is all you need to get signed at agencies. Reality “unscripted” shows have made it more acceptable to audiences to watch good looking, but not so talented people.
U.S. talent pool: No drama school required. Just some abs, a good headshot, and a couple of months at some Hollwood “acting class” over on Melrose Ave.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh…I feel better now.
Good going, Dallas!!
As one who was there from the very beginning, show those young “whippersnappers” (lol) how it’s done!
(-and to the writers: man, would bringing back Victoria Principal really throw a fly into the ointment!)
Wish they would do the openning credits in the style of the old show, it then would be perfect.
Is this sarcastic? The opening credits are very similar to the old show.
Who cast these new actors? They’re all so model- like with no acting chops or charisma. They look like people from a catalogue. WBTV casts a lot of non starters in their one hour shows. Is this because Mary Buck isn’t there to bring them original looking people who can act?
Word is WBTV is paying less for writers rooms and for actors. It’s clear that they haven’t had a one hour Emmy chance in over a decade.
Actors who were on the West Wing weren’t pretty. They were talented and amazing. The scripts were off the charts.
Has WBTV decided to lower the bar and sell out? It feels like it.
I don’t normally comment or engage in these comment “runs” but I think since my name is being mentioned I should let you know that I LOVE the cast of “Dallas”. I think everyone involved did a great job bringing this show back for a second audience. I have been retired from WBTV and casting for over two years now…..and if I was still at WBTV…I would be very proud to be attached to this project. Getting any show made, on the air, drawing the audiences attention in this day and age is a masterful feat….Congratulations to all involved. and to the person who is using “where is Mary Buck” as their ‘tag’….use your own name and stop using mine.
Wow.. there’s acouple of bitter old farts here! LOL!.. I thought they did an excellent job.. and the ratings proved it. Its fun… not rocket scientist material
Please stop misusing the term “reboot.”
It. Was. AWESOME!! The only thing I could say is, more J.R., Sue Ellen & Bobby please. Felt like old times. LOVED IT. Welcome back!!
Totally agree, I want to see more of JR, Cliff and the Sue Ellen
from the first Dallas. I want something to get Sue Ellen in a big huff!!!!
Ugh, it’s not anywhere near as good as the original. And I don’t think those demos are skewing particularly young. Maybe not quite as old as feared, but it’s definitely appealing to a core constituency in the original fanbase. Now we wait and see how disgusted they are by this remake and if the numbers will hold.
Crap – that’s in response to r0ckmypants.
Thought the new cast was horrible…they should have brought back the kids to play themselves. Omri Katz (John Ross) and Joshua Harris (Christopher) would have been awesome to see…makes sense too.
The ratings were good, but not as good as the “Who Done It?” episode I wrote, popularly referred to as “Who Shot J.R.?” DALLAS was an iconic series for the 80s. I hope this new DALLAS becomes an iconic series for the 21st century and runs for years.
Of all those 80s nighttime soaps, Knott’s Landing, Falcon Crest, Dynasty, the best was definitely Dallas. Missed the fist episode but looking forward to this series.
I had a feeling DALLAS would be a hit, but wow! Nice to see JR, Bobby, Sue Ellen, Lucy, & Ray back on m.y TV. Great start
Story wise the new Dallas was disappointing. It will be interesting to see how it fares over the next few episodes. At this point I will be surprised if it goes beyond its initial order.
Who stuffed J.R.?
Larry Hagman is epic as ever as “j.r.”. Agreed, the young actors have no chops.
The old show had the actors pictures in alphabetical order along with the theme and “Dallas” scenes.
Let me just say (i Loved the first Dallas)and i like this one ,but marring Christopher off right off the bat…I don’t know doesn’t seem right to me and you gave away to much of the plots. I like to wonder what is going to happen next. And have the boys fighting over the housekeeper daughter that is so cliche. Lucy and Ray daughter should be in the mix as well.Who is Christopher? why did Bobby and Pam didn’t kids or is he the son of his new wife? And last but not lease needs to more double dealing and back stabbing. WRITERS…Watch the old Dallas look at all mess that J.R. caused
Bobby & Pam adopted Christopher who is actually Sue Ellens Nephew (Christopher was her sisters Kristin’s child). Bobby does have a real son with Jenna Wade and was raised by Jenna & Ray.
I loved it. I hope they bring in a lot of the original cast from time to time and I know he is much older now, but Larry Hagman is still gold. I actually liked some of the younger actors and I thought it was exciting. I look forward to it. I hope they don’t only show this in the summer, they need to prepare for new episodes in the fall (if the show is renewed) or it its staying power will be short. I also think TNT should start showing the original Dallas reruns so the newer fans will understand the background of the series. The original Dallas was awesome and this one has potential.
