Along with TV programs from the past season, the Critics’ Choice Television Awards — an offshoot of the Critics’ Choice Awards for movies — recognizes new shows that premiere after June 1. This year’s five Most Exciting New Series honorees include three broadcast and two cable series: The Following (Fox/Warner Bros), The Mindy Project (Fox/Universal), Nashville (ABC/Lionsgate), The Newsroom (HBO) and Political Animals (USA/Warner Bros). The inaugural Critics’ Choice TV Awards last year honored eight shows in the category, half of them coming back and half gone after one season: Alcatraz, Apartment 23, Awake, Falling Skies, New Girl, Ringer, Smash and Terra Nova.

Why would anyone nominate twaddle like Alcatraz, Ringer, Smash and Terra Nova for anything but a Razzie? Falling Skies is questionable as well.
It would be more circumspect to wait till a show has a full season under its belt before passing any judgments on it. Hey, I thought those shows had a lot of promise, too. And then I made the mistake of actually watching them.
What is this award saying other than, “interesting premise, good cast”? I can tell that just by reading the news stories on new shows. It means nothing about quality or survival.
The Mindy Project? Ew. That show looks about as “exciting” as a sack of rotting vegetables.
Its actually great. I was never a big fan of her character on The Office and was prepared to dislike Mindy Proj, but it totally surprised me. Funny and charming.
Mindy is naturally very funny. She’s adorable as a person. That seems to translate on screen in the clips I have seen. Going to be interesting to watch her segue from featured actor/writer to the star of her own show. I wouldn’t bet against her. Good luck Mindy!
Ew? Seriously? Are you five? That woman is hi-larious. Can’t wait to check it out!
I cannot wait for Political Animals! Amazing cast and trailer!
