Veteran comedy writer-producer Tim Doyle (Rules Of Engagement) has joined ABC’s comedy series Last Man Standing as executive producer/showrunner for its upcoming second season. Kevin Abbott, who held the post for most of last season stepping in for creator Jack Burditt, will continue to serve as an executive producer and will remain integral to Last Man Standing but non-exclusive; his pilot, ABC’s Malibu Country, was picked up to series. (Abbott serves as executive producer/showrunner on Malibu Country, which he’d had in development prior to coming aboard Last Man Standing.) On LMS, which will be paired with Malibu Country on Fridays in the fall, Doyle and Abbott will executive produce alongside Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Shawn Levy, Tim Allen, Kevin Hench, Rick Baker, and Richard Messina. In addition to the behind-the-scene showrunner change, there will be an on-screen one too on LMS next season. As our sister site TVLine first reported, Alexandra Krosney, who played the eldest daughter of Tim Allen’s Mike and Nancy Travis’ Vanessa, won’t return, with the role likely recast. Doyle’s credits also include Roseanne, Grace Under Fire, and Ellen. Doyle and Abbott are with CAA.

Tim is awesome. But why only seven non-writing executive producers on the show? How can they turn out a decent product with anything less then ten non-writers giving notes?
CAA comes to the WME rescue. Sign Shawn Levy already.
The show needs help. It’s witless and utterly lacks charm despite the wonderful Nancy Travis.
Non writing producers are parasites who eat money and serve no useful function. Sometimes they are deal makers who get the ball rolling. But beyond that? Useless. I should know. I’ve got five of ‘em on my show.
Because “executive producer” titles are more likee “honorable mentions” they were people important to the show, but don’t rreally do much.
Kevin Hench isn’t a non-writing exec. Guy writes his ass off. He wrote THE HAMMER with Adam Carolla – one of the funniest sports, rom-com hybrids you’ll ever see that didn’t get its due because the MPAA gave an R rating to a film that had the word “fuck” in it just once. Hench is talented as hell.
I don’t understand why they would recast the eldest daughter. She’s great on the show. No, I don’t know her. This just seems odd. Who did she piss off?

Recasting Alexandra Krosney after one season is totally moronic. If they don’t like the actress, or can’t service the character, send her off to college.
I liked Alexandra Krosney on this show, because she had an edge, a real edge, like a lot of teen mothers do in real life. But, let’s face it, Disney doesn’t like edge in its young actresses.
I recorded most of Last Man Standing last season. The only thing that I got a little tired of was the show around Mandy so much when you had two other daughters. Alexandra is not going to be on the show is a loss. I feel Tim and Nancy are a good pair. I have gotten so tired of vampires, blood & guts police shows, and reality TV. IF you don’t like LMS then you have a choice of not watchingit, some people enjoy the show.
We watched all of Last Man Standing shows last season. Love Tim and Nancy and all three original daughters. Don’t care for the new “oldest daughter” . Also, the show seemed to be an advertisement for the Obama campaign four days prior to the election. Not OK.
what happened to the show, Last Man Standing. it is a mess. I loved it last year, all the daughters were enjoyable. I can’t stand the one they replaced the older daughter for, what were they thinking??? It was a political statement for Obama. Ick. There is nothing on Friday night, I was looking forward to the show, I guess I will read a book.
Why did they recast the oldest daughter? She was such a great fit. Also, did they change writers? I swear the first episode of the second season was off.
I agree. I want comedy, not stale political rants a la All In The Family. And the new eldest daughter looks more like the housekeeper. She’s a lousy actress, too. Ugh.
Not fond of the recast at all. Show might lost me as a viewer. I haven’t seen many people defend the recast so my guess is that the recasts will prove to be the shows demise. Oops ABC
Agreed. First show felt off to me too
Last nights show was the worst I’ve seen and was totally unacceptable. We’re bombarded with political television ads, junk mail, all the Obama entertainment sects, and now we have to watch the first show of the season of Last Man Standing that is a political ad. We watch little of ABC and that show lasted all of five minutes before going to the American Pickers on the History channel. Surely America is sick of all the Hollywood, New York, Chicago, and whereever writers, entertainers, talk show hosts, so called celebrity chefs, and all the writers or have a personal agenda by having politicians on their network. Long live FOX is all I have to say. Will never watch Last Man Standing again an dhope it shuts down soon.
This is one of the worst of the series! Period! What were you thinking? bring back the old Kristin, and stop destroying a good thing! Sorry Tim! But you need to do something before your show gets cancel!
Agree, what were they (ABC) thinking replacing the oldest daughter she was great, also the new daughter is a terrible actress ,i love the show and Tim and Nancy but the first show was terrible,to political ,i was looking forward to the show and was very dissappointed.
Just watched the Friday show — bad — I don’t think I’ll be watching any longer. Too bad. We enjoyed it last season. Last Man Standing is really Dead Man Walking.
Bad Bad idea to change the eldest daughter, we all loved her now the show feels weird!!! We all love this show very disappointing!!!
Nice job ABC, you took a good show and turned it into crap. The cast change was stupid and the political ad for Obama was even worse. You obviously don’t understand your target market with Tim Allen. I hope you didnt film a whole season because this show will be canceled soon.
It was pretty bad last week. Now we are watching Dodgeball Club. Wow, pretty bad, pretty bad. The new writer(s) took a nice show and turned it to crap. Propaganda is more of a Socialist agenda, isn’t it? Trying to mold the world to a new pure state? You are in the ENTERTAINMENT business. Try Comedy!! Not a ‘not so subliminal’ message of anti family values. BAD JOB. Goodbye
Not loving the changes in this show. The actress swap for the oldest daughter OBVIOUSLY doesn’t work…and get rid of the baby-daddy, too. Please don’t terminally screw up this show. It HAD potential. Get it back before its too late.
I watched ALL the episodes of LMS, and I even purchased a couple of episodes from iTunes…….
In my opinion it’s a great show, with a funny script and a believable chemistry between the actors…….
The recasting of Alexandra Krosney (Kristin) has unfortunately changed the dynamic of the show and has also negatively impacted on the chemistry between the actors, which in season 1 was working well…
Suggestion: If at all possible, negotiate to get Alexandra back into the show to recapture the essence of what made season 1 a hit for audiences.
Suggestion: Please!!!! No more recasts …….
Thanks..
Love all the comments which totally support my feelings about LMS season 2. Just shared to watch the latest episode about the duck and the five year old. I deleted it before finishing the whole episode. I don’t care for the new additions. Prefer the oldest daughter in season 2 and the toddler. I am done with this non-funny show.
I am so disappointed with the recast. The new oldest daughter recast is too old for the part and lacks energy. I will not be watching this show anymore. I thought the political ad of your first episode.was out of line. The network should not use this as an opportunity to campaign.
