EXCLUSIVE: Unforgettable lives! CBS has picked up the procedural starring Poppy Montgomery and Dylan Walsh, which was cancelled in May after one season, with a 13-episode order targeted for next summer.

Following the cancellation by CBS, Sony Pictures TV, which co-produces Unforgettable with CBS TV Studios, began actively shopping the series to other networks, including TNT and Lifetime, while also pursuing a resurrection at CBS where it eventually started renewal negotiations. Unforgettable centers on Carrie Wells (Montgomery), a New York detective with the ability to visually remember everything, who works for a team led by her ex-partner and boyfriend, Lt. Al Burns (Walsh). Unforgettable will mark the highest-profile summer original scripted series to air on CBS in a long time. The network, which sticks mostly to unscripted fare and scripted reruns in the off-season, recently had some success with another crime procedural, Canadian import Flashpoint, which started in the network in the summer.
The axing of Unforgettable was surprising and one of the closest calls this upfront season. In its first season, Unforgettable averaged 12.1 million viewers and a 2.5/7 among adults 18-49 and was the most-watched series on any network to get the hook. The series was created by Ed Redlich and John Bellucci for Sony TV, CBS Studios and Timberman/Beverly. Walsh is with Gersh and manager Bob McGowan, Montgomery is with UTA.

great !dylan and poppy are great together, love the show , they need to focus more on dylan , poppy is great, but dylan has the ny cop thing down to a science , i am a cop, i know, cbs and sony did the right thing, bring this show back
i agree, dylan is the real deal, dylan poppy and jane curtin will be great,as long as they have good writers, dylan does need more to do. im sure cbs will make that happen. great news
Great news. Clearly CBS sees how well some of the original dramas are doing on TNT and USA and they see opportunity. Hope it brings forth other original SCRIPTED programming to the network.
Finally!! Been waiting to hear this! So glad the show is back, it had some weak parts but hopefully they’ll fix it for the new season.
I can see Unforgettable being a successful summer show for CBS. If the new shows don’t work out I can see it turning into a fill-in replacement as well.
Great! Poppy Montgomery is fantastic. Thank you, CBS!
Its crazy that this show won’t return until 2013. It is an excellent!!!!! I miss T.V series. I dont understand why so many great series are taken off the air and replaced with these reality shows?? The majority of them suck!!!!
Smartest dectective show on tv. Thank you CBS! Brava!
Everyone i know loves it and we can’t wait
for series to begin.
Sorry to tell you this but most crime procedurals on broadcast are solid mediocre attempts at crime drama. Go check out cable current ongoing crime dramas like Justified, Southland, and The Closer. Then you will see the big differences in quality crime drama. Even try a couple of British crime dramas with are generally meatier than american ones.
True, Luther from BBC being the best show.
Now if only NBC would revive Harry’s Law as a summer series
You ask me, it suffered from an egregiously silly premise, tired stories, and probably the clunkiest and most on-the-nose writing of any show last season. So I wasn’t surprised by the cancellation. It’s the resurretion that puzzles me.
I don’t watch the show, but I don’t find it puzzling at all. If CBS can get 10MM summer viewers (a 2 million decrease), it’s a success. Even 8MM is a success. Nothing to do with whether it’s “silly”, “tired”, or “clunky”. It’s all about business.
Maybe. But if I’m Moonves, I use the summer to try new stuff that could break out, rather than resurrect a show that’s not only tired and clunky (sorry, AJ, that’s what it is) but that now has the additional stink of being rejected even by bottom feeders like TNT and Lifetime. Not the best way to burnish that CBS brand.
Who said it was rejected? It sounds more like it was saved by CBS just so that another network couldn’t have it.
It’s not a “silly premise” unless you don’t know that the ability to remember everything in your entire life is a real thing called “Superior Autobiographical Memory” and only a few dozen people on Earth were born with the ability.
Thanks, CBS , I really missed this program and am glad you are continuing it. A watcher
I wonder how much of a licencing fee cut Sony took to get the pick up?
Yeah but they don’t have Poppy – they don’t have a fascinating and real neurological conditition of total recall (unhead of before this) and they don’t have an ongoing thread – a story that builds and keeps you coming back for more to find the real answers. Those other shows are an entity unto themselves – Unforgettable is a plot within a plot – like The Caller or The Man in the Woods – - each has a thread and link to the nest clue. Love it! We all catch different things which makes for great discussions over coffer – we watch repeats cause we miss little things along the way. It’s ongoing and exciting. Thank you so much CBS!!!
Love the cable snobs looking down their nose at broadcast, fuck off. CBS kicks all kinds of arse. Quiet as its kept, cable *wishes* they had the eyeballs network does. They can dry their tears with Emmys, but nets (excluding NBC) get PAID.
Les Moonves salary alone could fund 13 eps of a cable show.
Dylan Walsh needs to be on the poster with poppy !! He has a huge following from nip/tuck , many people were not aware he was on the show , until mid season ! Glad it is back.
grow up ! over half the people in the cheat so you better stop watching half your shows
Naturally, I’m thrilled, but this does seem like a stay of execution. By summer, the fall schedules will have been set, which means at best it could only merit another 13 for the following summer. A spring start would have been more encouraging for a sustained comeback. Still, better 13 in summer than nothing.
I am relieved to know that TV execs do have smarts and will continue this series.
Thank you CBS, love the show & Poppy. Put a little romantic hints in for Dylan & Poppy. Jane is a terrific addition.
Thank you CBS! This was the most refreshing show that CBS has debuted in a long, long time, and my favorite on the network. I just love watching Poppy act and watching her interactions with her boss and former boyfriend (whom she is now in a realtionship with again?!), and watching the stories within a story in terms of her search for her sister’s killer. My only suggestion is in marketing for next summer. Put Dylan Walsh on the poster along with Poppy so that his fans who have not seen the show will know to check it out!
I found the show pretty sloggy. Maybe they should let her wear Maria Bello’s little hat.
Now if only The CW brought back The Secret Circle…
It’s still in time, CW. The show definitely earned a second season and you can still replace one of your upcoming disasters (Emily Owens/Beauty and The Beast) for a show with true potential.
@Deborah
The Secret Circle bombed. Airing after The Vampire Diaries and it still was getting slaughtered. Move on.
I hope this is the beginning of a new emphasis on original Summer programming (apart from reality shows) on the broadcast networks.
It would be much easier to do it next Summer (2013), since there will be no Olympics or political conventions for the broadcast networks to worry about.
A 13-week series would cover the time from early June to the end of August (although I could see the next season for “Unforgettable” not returning until the middle of June to avoid competing with the Stanley Cup Finals on NBC and the NBA Finals on ABC).
I thought the show lacked a rounded development of the other cast members. I personally thought the lack of charector development for the others kept the show a bit hollow and one dimensional. It has tons of potential but only if they develop the entire cast. Besides, Poppy is eye-catching but not a great actress. It wears thin…
If Unforgettable delivers 5m viewers it will be consider a success. Anybody who thinks the show might lose 2m of its 12m average viewership over the summer just doesn’t know what is going on with the big networks during the doldrums of summer. This show does not work conceptually but does feature a pair of attractive stars. Somehow they have to solve the problems with the show’s hook.
I know this is a little note but I would also have Poppy die her hair back to blond. She is much more attractive, sexier and more identifiable in her old hair color.
What exactly do you think is the problem with the “hook”? What’s so awful about having Superior Autobiographical Memory for a character?
I totally disagree! she is washed out as a blonde and much hotter as a red head
FINALLY!!! I’ve been waiting to hear this news for so long. That’s all I’ve been thinking about since may when it was cancelled!! People thought CBS was so wrong including me!! So glad they rethinked it!!! Can’t wait to see it next summer!
I was so disappointed when I heard the show was cancelled. Thank you CBS for giving it another chance. Summer 2013 can’t come soon enough!
Oh yeah!
The Secret Circle season 2 for summer 2013! Let me dreaming!!
