BURBANK, Calif., June 7, 2012 — Holy Licensing Program, Batman! Warner Bros. Consumer Products (WBCP) unveiled today, in advance of Licensing Show 2012, a new licensing program inspired by the classic 1960′s television series, Batman. The program will feature captured photography from the live-action series, as well as the illustrated character art inspired by the series’ animated opening sequence, and will incorporate the vehicles, gadgets and catchphrases that have made the show a cultural phenomenon.
“The Batman Classic TV Series celebrates an incarnation of Batman that for many fans was their first introduction to ‘The Caped Crusader’ and his many friends and foes,”said Brad Globe, president, Warner Bros. Consumer Products. “This new licensing program captures the playful and stylish spirit of the iconic Batman while bringing a fresh look that will appeal to the Batman enthusiasts and nostalgic fan base, as well as to a new generation of fans.”
As part of the new licensing and merchandising program, licensees will have the chance to bring to life some of the most recognizable elements of Batman, including the “Dynamic Duo” of Batman and Robin and an arsenal of archenemies such as The Penguin, The Joker and The Riddler. Batman’s famous high-tech gadgetry will be featured in the program such as the Bat-phone, the Bat-zooka and the Bat-signal, along with other ultramodern tools – and don’t forget the famous Batmobile.
WBCP now has the rights to license the likenesses of the actors from Batman as part of the Batman Classic TV Series licensing program. Throughout the duration of the 120-episode run of Batman, the venerable actors of the series include Adam West as Batman, Burt Ward as Robin, Cesar Romero as The Joker, Burgess Meredith as The Penguin, Vincent Price as Egghead and Eartha Kitt as Catwoman, among many others.
“This is an incredible moment in the history of Batman, as the incredible roster of talent and famous characters, including the Rogues Gallery of infamous villains, and the unforgettable creative elements from the series, have never before been brought to life through such a licensing program,” added Globe.
With only the Batmobile from the classic television series currently licensed by WBCP, this is the first time in decades that the show’s beloved characters and unforgettable themes are back on the streets and will give fans the chance to capture their favorite moments. The Batusi is back!

This is Warner Brothers way of seeing how much money baby boomers will spend on nostalgia.
Very funny that you sign yourself “Katniss.” Sounds like in forty years, you’ll be spending your money on Hunger Games merchandise, while your kids complain about nostalgic Millennials…
And yet the episodes themselves are still not on DVD…
Does this mean we’re any closer to the episodes being on DVD?
How much did WB have to pay FOX since they made the old show?
Now if only we could get the series released on DVD/Blu-Ray
Does this mean the actual shows are finally being released on home video? I’d think that’s the key merchandise that the fans want.
This means that Warner can release the series in dvd?
Nope! They still have to clear all the guest stars from all the different shows that made guest appearances wile Batman and Robin climbed a wall, for example. Then WB owns the rights but Fox owns part of the show. Its a mess. But 6 Million Dollar Man was a mes, so there is hope!
So, how about releasing the TV series on Blu-Ray about now?
I just hope they sell the “Bat Shark Repellant” used in the movie
Please release the series on DVD/BLUE RAY when you roll out this merchandise. It’s the SMART thing to do!!!!
This is a great idea. Those were great gadgets. The series had a firm grasp of the silly and ridiculous and had great good humor. I would buy a utility belt provided they have it in waist size 58…for hoisting myself sideways up walls to meet celebrities popping out of windows. Of course I feel that I can make these claims because I’m a graduate of Disco Tech High School. (The art work, the score, all unbelievably memorable – everywhere you would look a hook.)
“Some days you just can’t get rid of a bomb!”
No joke. This is absurd. Work out the rights issues so we can get the show on DVD.
I’m not sure if anyone has mentioned it, but what about the show coming out on DVD?
Nice! I will probably end up buying a ton of this stuff! Apologies in advance to my wife.
The key here is that the DVDs of the show are still not any closer to becoming reality but maybe the door has been left open just a bit for something to happen down the road.
Executive producer and narrator William Dozier, went to his grave not seeing a penny from his profit participation in the BATMAN and GREEN HORNET TV shows. His Greenway Productions has been in continuous litigation with 20th century-Fox Television, who still claim the massive hit show, never made a profit!
Thats why its not on DVD… the Dozier estate is still waiting for Fox to pay out, forty-six years later!
In addition to the Dozier issue, you’ve got issues with all the companies involved (Warners/ABC/Fox), guest appearances on the show, the rights to the design of the Batmobile, the song rights, etc etc.
