And so it begins. CBS has picked up Ex-Men, a new comedy from Rob Greenberg, as the network’s first pilot order of the 2013-2014 season. Written and directed by Greenberg, it details the exploits of a young man learning the ways of the world from the older and more experienced men in his short-term rental complex. Greenberg, an executive producer on the network’s comedy How I Met Your Mother, will produce the single-camera comedy with Eric and Kim Tannenbaum and CBS Studios. Ex-Men has been kicking around for a few years, but with buying season starting the comedy was still acquired ahead of any dramas. Greenberg is repped by ICM Partners and Management 360.

that icmp is pulling the puppet strings! we are back!
I’m working on a drinking game where you drink every time a single-cam pilot is announced that sounds like it would be better as a multi-cam. It’s the new “Hi, Bob!”
CBS undoubtedly thinks it needs single-camera comedies, and maybe it does, if only because most multi-cam shows are so bad, but there’s still a huge gap – the sophisticated multi-camera comedy – that can’t be filled by bland single-cams.
Do you do the same thing with dramas?
Why does this premise sound so familiar?
Greenberg is the best!
Single-camera? On CBS? Good luck with that.
Kicking around for years? What an understatement…There’s a reason
CBS F*cked themselves by not picking up the one single cam pilot last year that was actually good. I wouldn’t even waste the gas in my car to pitch them a single cam, they might or might not buy but def won’t go to series. Everyone is hip to them now. They are not in the business of putting on air single camera shows.
If CBS doesn’t take this or another single cam, I will never watch a CBS show again.
Why is it so important for CBS to take single-cams when Fox didn’t pick up any multi-cams, HBO hasn’t had a multi-cam since 2006, etc.? It’s not like it’s so much more important for a network to have one than the other.
Congrats to Rob! A talented and deserving writer.
