It is a very rare for a filmmaker to receive the industry honor of having their hand- and foot-prints cemented into the famed forecourt of the legendary Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood. But now, out of 262 honorees in 85 years, The Dark Knight trilogy’s Christopher Nolan is not only at age 41 one of the youngest filmmakers but also only the 8th director to receive the honor. Here are photos from Saturday’s ceremony:

Well deserved.
Even more so when you consider the Twilight hacks are there just beside his.
Who is beside him?
2 comments: didnt jennifer aniston get her paw prints in there recently? seems to me there are mediocre people there, which leads t comment #2: ‘inception’ was mediocre. what is so special about this nolan guy?
“‘inception’ was mediocre”
your credibility out the window.
You’re either a lemming or have no taste kabbe. Because by all objective standards. Inception WAS mediocre. Looked great sure. But shouldn’t we expect more than just pretty pictures out of our movies?
By your logic, any movie that has great effects is not a good movie. Inception had great effects but also an amazingly unique and interesting plot beautifully put together by Christopher Nolan, that’s why it was nominated for best picture at the Oscars. Every big director always has people saying that they make bad movies and don’t deserve any honors because for some reason people think if they hate someone or something that is popular they are somehow better than everyone, stop being like that.
inception was medicore? it’s 5am and you are deadline trashing good movies. have a great day.
I’ve heard Christopher Nolan described as many things before, but “mediocre” is not one of them.
I enjoyed Inception, i had to see it a few times to fully comprehend but I will admit, it isnt exactly a movie that have people talking…even with all the money it made. I dont think many people would even think of Inception if asked what their top 10 fav movies are…they may mention the Dark Knight though but ONLY because of Heath Ledger’s performance and NOT the writing or direction.
Chris Nolan is a great talent, but he’s only released 3 MAJOR movies so far that have done well…so that leads one to believe that, YES, this stunt was definitely paid for by someone with a major interest in him and not by his film accomplishments alone.
Do you not count batman begins a major hollywood release? Also many people not only love the dark knight for heath ledger but for the huge scale of the action and directing in the film, it’s a fun film to watch. Also the writing and directing in tdk is the best for any super hero movie ever, the reason they don’t talk about it is because average people do not walk out of a movie and talk about the screenplay and direction.
long live film
Wonder how much WB paid for that… That being said he deserves any honor he gets. Amazing talent.
I’m thinking the same amount they used on the Harry Potter trio. Although he does deserve it more than they did.
At 41 he has a long, long career of filmmaking in front of him, and given the track record I’m definitely looking forward to it. Hopefully he’ll indulge in some Soderbergh-esque indies now and then as well as the blockbusters.
THANK YOU BASED NOLAN!
but its funny how the brother is never going to be mentioned.
That’s great news!
Now, how about a cast and crew screening for the rest of us?
Only the 8th director ever? wow so many other fine directors have lived before him.
Beyond overrated and undeserved.
So well said. In the pantheon of directors, he’s down the list of 100s, if not 200s.
can’t you just be happy for the guy, he is a great director who does a lot to keep good old fashioned cinema alive, they’re not going to give some director who may direct great movies but ones that no one has heard of, it has to be someone who people love.
Congratulations. And good timing
Seriously though, Chris Nolan has made some very good movies in recent years; at least movies with something substantial in their writing to go with the spectacle – an increasing rarity.
They gave the same “honor” to a dog last week.
Best comment of the day.
I have great respect for Nolan, but none for the Hollywood Chamber and the Walk of Fame. It is nothing more than an expensive publicity stunt, and no longer carries any real weight or respect in the community.
So, if Chris enjoys being a tool in the Batman publicity machine, so be it…and, congrats…I guess?
Just looked at a list on Wikipedia of Grauman’s Theater names and was astonished not to see directors like Frank Capra, or John Ford, or Billy Wilder, or Howard Hawks. I like Chris Nolan’s films but it hardly seems like a big deal to be only one of eight directors enshrined in cement when some of the greatest directors in the history of film aren’t there. Makes the whole thing seem like little more than a paid-for publicity stunt. Meh…
>a paid-for publicity stunt
No, when the League of Shadows does it, it is called “theatricality.”
Grauman Theater’s financial troubles have been in the news for the past few years… I’m sure they are not turning away WB dollars or a chance for a little piece of the Dark Knight publicity pie.
What’s so special? He invented the ‘must film wide angle in a dark underground empty parking garage scene’ == serious and dramatic.
It’s like in every movie he has done. Every. Otherwise, meh.
He’s only 41? No wonder they don’t respect him much when it comes to Oscar. But anyway, good for him, this is a nice honor!
Freeman’s the coolest guy by far in that picture. What a pimp.
Gee, reading these hater comments makes me think it sucks to be Christopher Nolan. He’s right up there with Jim Cameron – visionary artists who take our film-watching experience to levels never seen before. While getting a star on Hollywood Blvd is pretty much a joke now, it helps the community dollar-wise with all the money tourists bring to spend. Hollywood needs that. Other than that, there’s not much left for Nolan to get than future Oscars. It’s all good, people. It’s SHOWBIZ!
Yes, “yougottabekiddin”, indeed.
Cameron may be an overblown hack now, but to say there’s any comparison between the work of Nolan and films like Aliens, Terminator 2, or even the first Terminator with its microbudget is frankly kind of delusional.
Joining such Hollywood Legends as Andrew Campa, Monty Woolley, Lauritz Melchior, Colleen Moore, Freddie Bartholomew, Diana Wynyard, Anne Baxter, and the Ritz Brothers…
Are Nolan’s prints really going to be installed in the courtyard?
Ever since the theater was purchased by new owners last year, they’ve greatly increased the frequency of handprint ceremonies, but most of the concrete slabs are just placed into storage until they figure something else to do with them (other than installing them in the scarce real estate of the forecourt)
Congrats to Christopher Nolan
With all the hatred shown here….just gotta wonder who thinks there are so many directors better than Nolan that are active right now? Nolan is one of the few who can make good original films that actually make money. Even if you exclude the Batman films, he has a great catalog already with Inception (a great mind-f–k film), The Prestige, and Memento.
And, the young director has a lot of respect from some veteran Academy Award winners….you can see that w Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine there.
