Marvel is not cancelling The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes for Avengers Assemble, the company’s head of Television said today. Instead the upcoming series, which was briefly previewed at Comic-Con this morning, is “the next level,” said Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb. The Marvel TV chief announced that after 52 episodes the animated The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes is “transitioning out into the new Avengers.” Loeb told fans that the series, rumored to be on the chopping block, was intended almost from the beginning to run for a 52-episode order and that Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will “have an epic conclusion.” Loeb told Deadline that the series, which is aired on Disney XD, will end sometime later this year. With that said, the real emphasis on today’s “Marvel Television Presents” panel was on new properties. To that end, Loeb showed the fans a rough trailer of
the upcoming animated Avengers Assemble. Coming next year Avengers Assemble is much darker that Earth’s Mightiest and, as Loeb said repeatedly, derives from the Joss Whedon-directed blockbuster with the same characters, same tech and similar tone. “We’re going to give you the best Avengers we can and that’s a promise from Marvel Television.”

Avengers Assemble wasn’t the only addition to the 11 AM Sunday morning Marvel Universe block on Disney XD The panel also previewed Marvel Mash-Up. Starring the Fantastic Four, Marvel Mash-Up played to the company’s legacy by intentionally looking like old school animation from the 1970s with snappy irreverent dialogue. Next up was Hulk and The Agents of S.M.A.S.H., which Loeb said grew out of Mark Ruffalo’s “break-out role” as the Hulk in The Avengers movie. The idea is to have a team of heroic Hulks. The preview, which Loeb warned the fans was “just a test,” set up a new slew of characters, like A-Bomb and Red Hulk, for Marvel to spin-off. Hulk and The Agents of S.M.A.S.H. is, the Marvel TV chief said, the next level of the studio’s reinvigoration. Loeb also announced a series of the more mature Marvel Knights DVD series including more of the Astonishing X-Men series by Joss Whedon and John Cassaday, Wolverine Origins and Wolverine vs. Hulk. The cheering room was treated to a preview of a brand new episode of Ultimate Spider-Man. Loeb gently mocked some of the other Comic-Con previews this week by telling the crowd that the episode, starring the fan favorite Spider-Ham character, “won’t be airing this weekend, it won’t air for several weeks.”

Jeph Loeb is a very comfortable liar apparently. Avengers EMH was never intended to be a 2 season show. The other writers and producers have already stated that they had to change a lot or the final episodes would leave too many loose ends.
Big surprise that Loeb wants to do a series on the characters he created when he was writing Hulk. Pure ego project there. And I highly doubt that Ultimate Spider-Man was met with huge cheers. People hate that show.
Good post. I actually enjoy watching EMH. It’s a damn shame the series is going to end this year. I like it MUCH BETTER than USM.
I was there, it was greeted with cheers. And people laughed during the episode that was shown as well.
Earth’s Mightiest Heroes was only ever ordered for 52 episodes. They fulfilled that order. New writers came on in season 2 since they weren’t meeting all their deadlines either.
Also, Loeb didn’t create all these characters in the Hulk show either. The show utilizes Skaar who was created by Greg Pak. Loeb didn’t create She-Hulk either. So that’s BS as well.
So pumped they showcased Marvel Mashup! I hope that gets picked up for another season.
Just because you hate Ultimate Spider-man does not mean everyone hates the show, Jimbo.
I don’t see why you are getting upset over this. Is it really because it is more targeted for kids tha “mature” audiences?
Spectacular Spider-man is gone. Get over it.
dude that is a very wrong statement you just made.
Nothing is really wrong about it.
1. Spectacular Spider-Man is gone – Fact.
2. Just because you hate Ultimate Spider-Man doesn’t mean everyone hates it – Also Fact. I happen to like the show.
No more Wasp?? Avengers is ruined!
I know. I love her! She was hilarious in EMH. I really, really, really, really, really hope that they put Wasp in their new series. If they do, I wouldn’t mind them taking a more serious route with her character so much, BUT I just want her to BE there!
Captain america have tu be the leader that the true
NO WASP? WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE?
Anyway, Ultimate Spider-Man is not as bad as everyone is saying it is. I don’t love the plots– they regularly make Spidey act like a complete idiot– but they are geared towards younger kids and the whole “learn a lesson” device. For me, the value of that show is in the humor, which I do actually enjoy. It’s not always mature, but then, neither am I. I get a good laugh out of every episode.
Now, on the subject of EMH– I won’t lie, I’m majorly PO’d. That show is beautiful. It’s funny, the plots are awesome, and it has some great action scenes. As much as I loved and enjoyed the movie, as a fan, I don’t WANT a TV series trying to do more of the same. They’re going to make an Avengers 2, as well as all of those scheduled sequels. We’re going to get more of the “darker tone” anyway.
The movieverse is awesome. Tie-ins to the movieverse in TV shows can be cute, but I get the feeling they’re trying too hard when these tie-ins are just unnecessary. I’ll keep my mind open for this new series because I really WANT it to be awesome, not because I actually feel it has potential.
