Jon Hamm may have gotten his big break in drama but I do have to say after seeing him on SNL, on all of the late night talk shows and all of the podcasts he’s been on he is a genuinely funny SOB. He really should do more comedies beyond just the small bit roles he shows up in in the occasional romantic comedy.
Something that should have been funny that came across as very awkward.
It’s awkward because it’s extremely loose improv, in this instance more amusing than hilarious. These guys could do the same thing on a film set, and the power of montage will make it tight and punchy. I have very funny friends who improvise on stage. Sometimes it’s brilliant and laugh-out-loud funny, and sometimes you’re resisting an urge to check your phone.
Congratulations. You figured out the point. That’s exactly why it’s funny.
I’ve always said that comedy is hard. I can name at least a dozen comedians, some of whom I find funny, some of whom I don’t, who are AMAZING in drama movies. Robin Williams (one of my favourites) wins Oscars when he’s in dramas. Steve Martin’s (another favourite) drama work is spectacular. Even Adam Sandler and Jim Carrey (two whose comedy work I’m not a fan of) do great drama work.
I think Jon Hamm would do great in comedy.
If you have seen the TV ads for the “The Campaign” you’ve seen the movie, save your money.
Why does Jon Hamm appear on every comedy show ever?
Because he’s awesome and funny.
Deal with it, man!
Nobody was comfortable doing this. Really lame.
They like to improvise with big name funny guests but it always come off wrong. Stewart will ask bizarre questions and the guest will try to answer and it never works. That show needs to stay scripted.
