The benchmark was helped considerably by mega-blockbuster Marvel’s The Avengers and its domestic haul of $611.1M. So Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures will pass $1 billion in domestic gross today, becoming the first studio to reach the milestone this year. This is the fastest Disney has ever reached the billion dollar mark (188 days), beating the previous studio record of 210 days set in 2010. This also marks the 16th time in the last 19 years (and the last 7 years in a row) that Disney has acheived this.

He doesn’t need a check, he’s getting ateast 2 more avengers movies to his name with massive checks and his name is now attached to a film that has grossed near $1.5billion wordwide!
He can now approach just about any studio with any project and they have to pitch to him rather than the other way around.
I agree with what most of you are saying, a big thanks definantly goes out to “The Avengers” and Joss Whedon in particular. With all the news Marvel/Disney will have coming from Comic Con starting this thursday, one of the announcements better be that Joss Whedon is signed on to direct “Avengers” 2 & 3. You can’t pull that crap of having another director walk away and leave because you’re too cheap to pay him, not this time and not with this guy. Keep playing with fire and you’ll eventually get burned, Marvel learn this lesson before it’s too late. You wanna stay on top, i say give this guy a blank check to sign.
