Julia Louis-Dreyfus has little to prove after starring in two successful comedy series, Seinfeld and The New Adventures Of Old Christine. But the actress is on her way to a three-peat with her latest show, HBO comedy Veep. Louis-Dreyfus today landed a lead comedy actress nomination for the series, in which she plays U.S. Vice President. “I’m thrilled to be nominated and if I win I promise to lower taxes,” she said. “And I’m not just saying that. That’s not an empty promise or an attempt to bribe the voters.” The Armando Iannucci-created comedy also earned a best comedy series nom, which Louis-Dreyfus shared in as a producer on the show, which has already been renewed for a second season. This marks Louis-Dreyfus’ 13th Emmy nominations, following seven for Seinfeld and five for Old Christine. She won once for each show.
Louis-Dreyfus’s first post-Seinfeld effort, the short-lived NBC comedy Watching Ellie didn’t fare well — it was one of a slew of single-camera comedies unleashed on American viewers before they were quite ready. That fed into the notion of the so-called Seinfeld curse which supposedly doomed the follow-up efforts of the mega-hit NBC comedy’s co-stars. Louis-Dreyfus addressed the notion in her speech when accepting the Emmy for Old Christine. “I’m not somebody who really believes in curses, but curse this, baby!,” she exclaimed. Now Louis-Dreyfus has a chance to do it again with Veep.

Love Julia and hope she wins cause this show is painfully funny.
Painful, yes. But funny? No.
Well, let’s be honest… There is some freaky voo-doo paranormal activity for that show to be nominated for anything. Right?
Julia Louis-dreyfus deserves to be nominated, and win. Veep is incredibly funny and yet, oh so serious… Not really, but hilarious !
There is no Seinfeld curse…just poor choices by said actors…BTW – VEEP is fantastic
But she needs to win it first to break that jinx, as she’s over-rated as an actress.
Umm… she has won post Seinfeld… For The New Adventures of Old Chrisrine
All due respect to Jason Alexander and Michael Richards, but I think Julia has done so well post seinfeld because she’s the best at performing. That’s not to say she was the best on seinfeld (they’re all equally brilliant), just that she was probably the best actor and I think she’s been able to reflect that quite well.
That’s great – now if she can keep her yap shut about plastic bags and the Keystone Pipeline, that would be better. Hey Julia, keep your leftist liberal causes to yourself – your just costing us all money.
Oh look, another asshole conservative who has no problem foisting his right-wing garbage on an ENTERTAINMENT blog, but would deny a celeb THEIR First Amendment rights.
Keep talking, Julia.
Fuck off, “Rock.”
Nice job, Fluffo.
Was “Old Christine” really that much of a success? Sure it lasted five seasons (two of which were half seasons), but never scored very impressive ratings except during its first season when it followed Two & A Half Men. Now the only place you see it syndicated is Lifetime. She’s doing better than Richards or Alexander though.
It is truly a hilarious show, her best role and she won an emmy for it — so yes, it was a success.
Who is a better VEEP Dreyfus or Biden. I like Dreyfus.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus is the cleavage queen! She needs to pose for Maxim or Playboy.
