Spain’s 4-0 victory over Italy was the most-watched European football championship game in the US as seen by an average 4.068M viewers, 2.699M average households and based on a 2.4 rating. That’s an 8% hike in viewers, a 6% increase in households and reps a 4% ratings jump over the the Spain-Germany final in Euro 2008 — previously the most-watched game. ESPN Euro 2012 RatingsThe 31 matches of the three-week tournament gave ESPN’s live English-language TV broadcasts an average of 1.3M viewers, up 51% in households and viewers compared with Euro 2008. Out of the top 10 matches aired on ESPN in 2008 and 2012, Euro 2012 had seven and the games with the most traction were those that involved Spain and Italy. ESPN Deportes, meanwhile, had its highest-rated, most-watched telecast with Sunday’s final, which was up 28% compared with Deportes’ coverage of the Euro 2008 final. The final is also the second highest-rated European soccer match ever on a Spanish-language sports cable network.
