The Season 2 debut of TNT‘s sci-fi drama series Falling Skies last month faced competition from the NBA Finals and drew 4.5 million viewers, down 24% from its series debut, which was cable’s No. 1 series launch last year in the adults 18-49 demo. But there was little doubt that the series from DreamWorks Television and executive producer Steven Spielberg wouldn’t earn a third-season pickup — it also has been a success in the 115 overseas markets where it has launched. Ten episodes have been ordered for Season 3, which are set to air in 2013. The renewal comes just in time for Comic-Con this week: TNT is bringing the series’ stars — Noah Wyle, Moon Bloodgood, Will Patton and others, along with executive producer Remi Aubuchon – to San Diego for a session tomorrow.

The series, which chronicles the aftermath of an alien attack that has left most of the world completely incapacitated, airs on Sundays and ranks No. 1 in the demo among cable’s summer dramas, averaging 5.9 million total viewers. “Falling Skies is television storytelling at its very best, a powerful drama that’s told on both an epic scale and on a deeply personal level,” said Michael Wright, president, head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM). “We can’t wait to see what DreamWorks Television and Falling Skies‘ terrific production team and cast members have in store for Season 3.”

Have to agree. Nothing but love for Wright though. Wyle far from the most believable, reluctant tough guy, post-apocalyptic hero type. More of a Malibu paycheck guy who looks semi-tough after hair and makeup.
This show suffers from a cable budget with a feature look and feel too.

Best Sci-Fi on T.V. right now! WOW! Awesome story! Never want it to end. Very relieved to see it extended for a third season! The writers are amazing! Hope they can unite the Skitters and Humans to take down the Alien Overlords. It would be interesting to see how they would pan this out to make a new world exist in unison. Love all of the actors. Very believable including Wyle!(Idiots above-Duckie-A Guy-PitfalPeacock-Houseguest) Spielberg and the gang are always a class act. I have been watching Spielberg/movies/shows since the 1970′s-early 80′s and have never been disappointed! Come on people let’s get the ratings up! DVR it if you have too! i think thay should add a super twist. what if the aliens were preparing the earth to use as a battle field to face yet another alien species. that would be awesome if the fish head aliens were themselves being hunted by another alien species and they are on the run from them and are using the earth resources and using earth itself as a battlefield!!!

doing battle on our planet.It somewhat revisits Alien versus Predator.Now,with all of our special effects experience,we could make a killer series.Once again,great storyline.

I was bored an caught a few episodes from season 2…thought it was kinda cool so i went an bought season 1 on blu ray….just finished the first season, I AM HOOKED!!!! i just set my dvr to record. I am part of the resistance now!!!
Awesome show, morons say “This show is so bad” Are you ignorant? I watch every drama type show on tv right now. From Breaking Bad to Game of Thrones and House. I watch them all and this is high up on the list of quality entertainment. To hell with the haters. People raved over Battlestar Galactica, and while I’m a fan it is not nearly as good as Falling Skies for my sci fi viewing pleasure.

by far the best show on tv for years. id given up on tv with all the crsp’reality” tv. falling skies is utterly superb. unwrapping characters will no doubt bring shocks and surprises too.

Good show. But having to wait to next Summer is a royal pain in the arse.
We love Falling Skies. Noah Wyle plays his role very believable and shows what a great, actor he is. My family and I watch it whenever we can. We must have missed quite a few episodes because of the times it came on when we didn’t realize it was showing.
If it wasn’t for Noah Wyle I seriously doubt the show would be as good as it is. I doubt someone could replace him and have a feeling that we would end up not watching it anymore.

Best story telling since the first season of Spartacus all you trolls on here need to get out of your mother’s basement and realize you’re 40. My only gripe is the small budget they had for the first season to make a good looking set, but they made it possible with great camera angles and motion blur. Me and my wife can’t wait for the 3rd season to air.
