Some of the characters may have left McKinley High and Ohio but practically none of Glee‘s regulars is leaving the show. Additionally, I’ve learned that Chord Overstreet is in talks to return next season, this time as a regular. Overstreet joined Glee in Season 2 as a recurring, left at the end of the season and then came back midway through Season 3.
At the end of last season, which saw several seniors from the New Directions glee club graduate, series co-creator Ryan Murphy extended an open invitation to all 15 regulars to return for Season 4. It appears that virtually all accepted it and are set to come back, though not everyone will be in every episode. Leading couple Lea Michele and Cory Monteith are among those likely to be in most if not all episodes. Also coming back are Matthew Morrison, Jane Lynch, Chris Colfer, Naya Rivera, Kevin McHale, Darren Criss, Amber Riley, Jenna Ushkowitz, Jayma Mays, Dianna Agron, Mark Salling, Harry Shum Jr and Heather Morris. Their workload will vary as the show once again will work to accommodate the large cast and make room for some new characters. (Glee has already booked Kate Hudson and Sarah Jessica Parker for multi-episode arcs.) In addition to storylines reasons, some cast members may have reduced presence on the show as they pursue other projects, including features, theater and music.

I like Chord and just glad that they have decided to make him a regular. I think he has already paid his dues.. if they’ll bringing back new regular characters… why not make someone familiar be regular? right? cause afterall people just watch this show for the cast.. lets be real..
They should follow the Degrassi model. It’s been successful because , even though they attempted a spinoff, they generally don’t do those lame college years extensions (see Saved by the Bell, 90210, Boy Meets World, etc). Sure those shows may have had a following but they got increasingly more absurd than seasons past.
So my question is does this mean that Samuel Larsen and Damian McGinty are gone? Please?
Honestly, the writing of this show is beyond atrocious, and I really cannot take people seriously who think it’s still good. Season 4 sounds like the biggest mess ever, and keeping the same old, tired high school formula sounds incredibly boring. Also, if I’m not mistaken, didn’t Ryan Murphy just say they were downsizing the cast a lot? Yet every single person is coming back and they’ve already cast a group of new kids… okay.
GLEE jumped the shark the moment in the finale where they returned to high school and the jocks threw Slushee cups full of confetti at them.
In that instant, they ceased being underdogs and became members of the upper hierarchy.
The show followed with underclassmen asking regulars to sign their yearbooks like gushing fans.
Sadly, the only way to get the mojo back is a clean reboot without the jocks. Let Chord go back to his family and make ALL the guys nerds. Who else is really in a high school glee club? But Ryan and Company are so intent on being “inclusive” that all reality goes out the window.
Without the “big brother protector” characters, the jocks move back in and the glee club becomes underdogs again. With the jocks IN the club, they merely perpetuate the “insider” motif.
My high school glee club was about half jocks who were there because either their girlfriends or their moms got them to do it.
I feel like Glee will never learn. They keep adding in new characters and new guest stars. I understand that Glee wants to keep it realistic in terms of letting those graduates move on but they need to know that those are the characters we have grown to love. We want those original characters. Glee isn’t in the best position to bring new people in and expect us to fall in love with these new characters as we did the old one. The original cast is Santana, Rachel, Quinn, Finn, Kurt, Brittany. Artie, Mercedes, Tina, and I guess Mike. So this does not include Rory, Sugar, Joe, Sam, and whoever new. I honestly want to watch to see how those who have graduated are like now that they have graduated rather than get back into the whole competition aspect with a whole new group of people.
Yawn, snore, zzzzz….
Ryan Murphy, you’re the world’s most inconsistent showrunner, but whatever. I am voting for American Horror Story as the best show of the year and Glee as the worst (talk about inconsistent) at TWOP.com’s Tubey Awards.
It’s good to see that even in Hollywood job security is so highly valued. I’m sure that if this show had premiered a few years earlier half of the cast would have left when their contracts expired to try and make it in movies instead of sticking around.
I for one am sick to death of the the finchel nonsense. Someone above said all of these people should go that graduated and train new people. This is what happens when your characters become more important than the story lines. Who are these writers writing for — only 13 year olds???!!!
Look at the cast. There are maybe three or four with real talent. And that’s Lea, Chris, Naya and Darren. The others are all very expendable. Harry, Amber, Dianna, Kevin, maybe even Mark and Cory should have been axed from next season. They don’t have any reason to stay on the show.
First off Darren can’t act, while Cory can. It’s completely understandable that he’s coming back along with Lea. those 2 along with Chris are thier biggest assets and they ARE the face of Glee.
In a buisiness sense I’d have those 3 locked up as long as I could. Noone left in the choir room can carry the show and I think they’ll have a hard time making that part of the show work.Despite what Darrens fans might think.
and as others have said, ND won, not much story left to tell. The rest are expendable. Dianna/ Quinn has run her course a long time ago, as has Puck and most of the others. I think having them on as guest stars for an episode or 2 is perfect.I know some may not be happy about it, but Finn/Rachel is the top couple, has been since day 1, they aren’t going to change that now. they are the long-term plan, otherwise 3 seasons of (badly written) stories would be for naught.
I can tell that season 3 was spent trying to right a lot of the wrongs season 2 created. Season 2 was a disaster, and the huge loss in ratings in the second half of season 2 were proof of that. far more concerning than this season’s. it’s an aging show, going into to it’s 4th season. loyal viewers are what’s left.
I honestly thought losing most of the grads was a good idea. with Cory,Lea and Chris to anchor the show and the familiar characters still in the choir room, adding a few new faces there was the best route. I just hope they use the returnig grads other than the main 3 sparingly, or in Quinn’s case not at all.but that’s personal preference.
Ok…. So yes, Glee is starting to be a little off-topic and all over the place, but its not bad. Its very obvious that Ryan Murphy is focusing more on his other shows. Season 3 is way better than Season 2 And its not as good as the first 13. I personally thought that Joe was even worse than Rory. Joe is very boring to me; At least Rory has some good lines, (And better looking too xD) Yes, Rory’s very sterotypical and was percieved as a bit of a manwhore, but you also have to remember that he is a 15/16 year old boy and plenty of them are manwhores, just sayin’. They can always have a “Rory has grown up a bit over the summer” kinda thing… like he grew out of the whole “manwhore” thing or something. I don’t like Alex as Wade and I sort of like him as Unique, but the drag thing will get old fast; I thought it got old on The Glee Project….. Harmony (Lindsay) was amazing, but Lindsay already said she’s never coming back… They can all get better storylines.(That are less boring) I want them to bring all of The Glee Project people back, even if they are just in the background.
And stop with the Damian/Samuel/Alex hate. For God’s Sake, if you don’t like the character, say the character’s name, not the actor’s. You shouldn’t act like it’s the real people who suck. In my comment before I said Joe, not Samuel, so don’t say that I’m being a hypocrite. And what I said about Alex was the drag thing, which has to do with his CHARACTER, so I’m not judging the real people.
The problem is not the cast but the writers. There is no continuity. Most characters are underdeveloped. Damian on the glee project was fun and exciting to watch. Rory is sad and underdeveloped Let Damian show through. The story lines on attempted suicide and texting while driving were poignant but mis handled. Quinn getting to sing and dance by Nationals totally ruined the point. Max did a fantastic job and then nothing. Glee started as a comedy it is not funny but it could deliver some great lessons for kids if only the writers followed through. Quinn in a wheelchair for Nationals would have delivered a much stronger REAL message.
