The premiere of ABC’s nine-week run of Good Afternoon America drew 1.923 million total viewers and 359,000 women 18-49 on Monday, according to fast national data released today. The one-hour extension of Good Morning America hosted by Lara Spencer and Josh Elliott improved on the season average of its predecessor, the canceled The Revolution, by 40% in viewers and 21% in the demo.
Meanwhile, on TNT, the final season opener of The Closer drew 6.1 million viewers and 1.2 million adults 18-49, followed by the series premiere of the drama Perception, which drew 5.6 million total viewers to rank behind the network’s Dallas as cable’s best series bow numbers year-to-date.

How did “opening act” on e! do?
I miss The Revolution. GAA seems to be just another entertainment talk show filled with mindless banter. We don’t need it.
It’s also the time of show they can add elements of The Revolution.
How did GAA do compared to “One Life to Live”?
I would like to know the $$$’s lost on these failed shows. They may be cheaper per se but if they crash its a total loss. Soaps are rare reality is overdone.
Close enough that the much cheaper GAA is more profitable.
Let me give you some advice: stop worrying about your doomed, trashy, stupid soaps. Instead, get off your fat behind and get some exercise, read something other than People Magazine, educate yourself.
I would suggest you follow your own advice about education. Except don’t educate yourself…get help elsewhere, as you seem to have stumbled horribly by yourself as can be seen by your ignorant and childish comment.
i used to work in daytime and watch a lot of daytime these days..i thought the show was awful…wont even watch it a second day. it just seemed poorly produced – trying to be everything to everybody but ending up being about nothing…also note that they’ve said they’ll be live for 2 weeks and on tape the rest of the run…wonder what happens if theres breaking news at noon?
No matter what they try to do, they will never have the longevity, the brand and the quality of One Life To Live. In a few years, somewhere in some board room in all the networks, someone who had nothing to do with recent decisions, will say “We really shouldn’t have cancelled the soaps.”
They also won’t have the HIGH cost of soaps. They could put almost anything on and if it gets 50% of what the soaps got it would be an economic winner. This is a simple in house show, very cost effective.
I wonder how much it has cost them in other areas. I know everyone thinks the Soap Viewers are few, but they do have a voice, and they haven’t silenced their voices yet. How much negativity on top of lower ratings has it cost ABC/Disney?
Somehow, I think the economics could have been worked out. How are these internet Soaps making episodes?
Everybody who thinks they sound smart like a network executive says the same thing so assuredly. How it costs less and is more profitable. The problem is that crap is crap and after a while people stop watching crap. As much as some people think they know about cost efficient programming and network budgets, advertisers don’t just like numbers and eyeballs. they like to be in specific environments that play well against their brand. Networks should also care about brand.the revolution was a disgusting mess and GAA isn’t much better. Lara Spencer is too cute by half and will wear very thin.
If GAA’s numbers hold up, General Hospital’s days may be numbered.
I really hope not, I’ve finally started to enjoy GH again!
Why not match this show up with last years numbers for One Life to Live? Why not tell the truth that the reality/news/boring shows do not measure up to what was on one year ago? If ABC is not worried about the truth then post the truth which is that these shows fail compared to what OLTL numbers were!
I’m not watching anything ABC produces. Bring back OLTL!
GAA is probably doing less than One Life to Live got. I understood them canceling All My Children because of their ratings but OLTL was doing much better than any of these attempted talk shows have gotten. They had better ratings than GH and the network just needs to realize the huge mistake they have made by canceling the legacy of soaps for cheap shows that aren’t making it. cheaper shows> good ratings and fans — that’s the choice they made!
I do miss OLTL. Only liked the Pasternak segments of The Revolution. Don’t have much of an opinion on the new GAA. The networks don’t care about the viewers anymore. They are going to do, whatever their bottom line will handle. Well handle this networks, I’ve gone and gotten a life without you! Turn off your TV’s folks and get a hobby, join and exercise group, go for a walk, spend the time learning how to cook good nutritious meals, go to the $1.50 movie. If it’s too hot outside, go walk inside the mall to get some exercise. Read a book, do laundry, vacuum the house, dust, go visit an elder you care about or a sister or brother (if you like them)to connect closer. take a class at a junior college or online. Just Get a life without TV and you will find how much fuller your life will be. I realize a lot of folks are out of work due to our wonderful economy so spending money may be difficult. Find other folks in your situation and start hobbies together. Swap your knowledge and teach each other how to do repair work on your house so you don’t have to call the plumber or paint the house or other info. Just get away from the TV and the controlling networks. If no one watches them, they may do something about it, or go out of business. In the meantime, you’ll have gotten a more enjoyable life.
Reprogram your DVR to record anything after General Hospital plays or your channel on your cable box will stay on ABC and make their ratings higher than they should be!
Wake up ABC we want OLTL back! At least make the old episodes available now that you also kille Soapnet!
I admit, I miss OLTL. Let’s give GAA a chance. I do find it more entertaining than “The Revolution”.
Dont give GAA a chance, I want GH to stay on! I started watching this show as a child and I am now 28 years old. My grandmother and mother were always huge General Hospital, One Life to Live, All My Children fans. We miss the other shows and we all still watch General Hospital on a daily basis. The fans have just been loyal for so long where is the network’s loyalty to us?? Oh and I just want to add one thing… I am far from fat, I actually have a degree in sports and fitness management. Had to mention that because I am so tired of hearing people say that soap fans need to get off of their fat butts.
Stop you idiot from making stupid generalized statements. Soap fans are not fat, lazy, stupid couch potatoes. We are educated, working people that count on soaps that some of us grew up on for entertainment. All these talk/ reality shows are mindless tv. That’s what we don’t need more of. Thats why soap fans want there soaps back.
I liked The Revolution…They actually helped people better themselves and believe in themselves. It was nice and refreshing. I will not be watching its replacement. Its the same garbage thats all over tv.
I was really disappionted that The Revolution was canceled. The show had a lot of useful information and more importantly helped people.
I’ve watched three shows of GAA and seriously won’t watch again. It is just fluff and not real substance. But if the networks want to cater to whatever crowd likes this stuff, maybe it works — but not for me – it’s just more crap on TV.
I just watched GAA and the coverage of the Aurora, Colorado tragedy. Please screen the individuals before letting them get their 15 minutes of fame. Chris Ramos was a rambling mess!
So I hate how ABC/Disney gets away with trashy TV. Nothing but gossip, gossip, gossip. What a way to create morality. As for Lara Spencer, let’s just say a stoned, drunk tse-tse fly has more of a clear, solid attention-span than her.
3 hours a day of Josh and Lara is more than anyone should have to endure. No one thinks Lara is funnier and cuter than she does. Yada Yada Yada……….yawn
Soap opera reruns would be more interesting.
this show totally sucks and a big waste of tv time,,, plus way too many talk shows already……….
Bantering back and forth really doesn’t help…abc has had the best soap operas running for years. I turn my tv on for general hospital only and it goes off the rest of the day! If you’ve seen one talk show you’ve seen them all!! Good luck abc!
My husband and I watch GAA everyday and enjoy it very much. Laura & Josh have so much going for them and they jell so well. Please find a spot for them to continue.
Good Afternoon America brightens my day! Don’t we all need some laughter in hour lives?? Josh and Lara are wonderful hosts and
their repartee is delightful………….Please don’t cancel….
Soaps are a dying breed and I’m tired of them. Taking a couple of years to resolve every crisis is ridiculous and I’ve had enough!
I think that GAA is a very good show, not that far away from excellent! Josh and Lara are perfectly paired and this is a show that SHOULD get a chance. They’ve barely had time to “fine-tune” it, mostly just rolling with what they knew would work. If you really want to de-throne the other morning competition, then keep GAA, with Josh and Lara! Seriously, everything about this show screams success. All they need is a little time to fine tune their show and it will become a major player in the ratings, as well as a fine follow-up to GMA!!! Trust and Believe in them ABC. I do!!
