Christine Lahti has joined Hawaii Five-O. The Emmy winner will play Doris McGarrett, the mother of Alex O’Loughlin’s Steve McGarrett, during the next season of the CBS drama. “The mysterious character of Doris McGarrett is a pivotal one to the mythology of our show. We are thrilled to have a seasoned and beloved actress such as Christine to portray her,” Hawaii Five-O executive producer Peter Lenkov said today. CBS renewed Hawaii Five-O for a third season earlier this spring. Lahti is repped by ICM Partners and Management 360.

The “mythology” is my least favorite part of this show. Keep it light/fun. It should almost be like the USANetwork shows.
The original Hawaii Five O was a dark and sometimes violent story set amidst a land of color and sunshine. That was part of the appeal when I was a kid. This version has not lived up to its predecessor, but I imagine CBS cries all the way to the bank.
Love her!!! They better bring back his sister taryn Manning as well!!
So sad,,,this is what she’s resorted to?? A brilliant actress that results to this…,a re-tread of an old series?
“The mythology of our show”? Get over yourselves. The show sucks.
This show is a bizarre joke.
When they set that episode in North Korea, breaking McGarrett out of a NK prison, it went into the realm of cloud cookoo land!
Now I will stop watching. Do not get her
This show went off track this year in part due to Alex’s problems and they can’t seem to decide the direction for the show. I have always considered this version to be a mashup of H50 and Magnum wrapped in a typical CBS procedural formula. The reality is it is not working. I think they should ditch the procedural formula and explore these characters more. I think they have good characters, and I know some of you don’t, but I like when they went into NK as part of Wo Fat storyline. More like Magnum in that regard. I know they are not going to drop the procedural aspect, but I wish they would. As to Lahti, I could have gone all summer without knowing she joined the cast. Maybe she will surprise me. I also agree they could learn from a show like Burn Notice.
Like Christine Lahti, but do we really need her? Don’t get what’s going on with this show (i’m a fan). I agree the episode set in North Korea was a “jumping the shark” moment. The shows does not use its greatest asset – Hawaii/Oahu. All the great scenery, arts and talent and it is not used. So many scenes shot on the stage/Five-0 HQ set. Enough of that! Get out on the beach for cryin’ out loud – you’re in Hawaii !! — use it !! And how about having McGarrett wear some type of a Hawaiian shirt occasionally? Or Kono in some type of Hawaiian/traditional clothing. And speaking of Kono — Grace Park, she is hardly being used. Such a beauty, and all she usually does is stand over a computer screen. And — there’s more: enough with the whole McGarrett as a super bad-ass SEAL taking on the world. That’s his past, stick with local crime stories/police work. Producers should watch and or hire Magnum P.I. crew/creatives to breathe some new blood into this show. Magnum is a good example of a on-location show using its location the right way.
And speaking of Grace, what’s her status for year 3? An inquiry to the under-utilized regular’s agent will quickly confirm if her deal’s “all shows produced,” “10 out of 13,” or “her option wasn’t renewed” or “she isn’t returning — her choice.” When writing about a significant, female cast addition to “Hawaii Five-0″ like Lahti, with all the questions/speculation about Grace, specifics about her year 3 participation are in order.
One more sad demonstration of how the folks and the network behind the show Just. Dont. Get. It. And likely never will. Meaning the show likely never will be more than the moderately rated time-filler it’s been since episode one. (Although come to think of it, this casting addition will likely make it even less than that now.) There’s your mythology.
I think the show is great and never miss an eposide. Especially like Dano and Cohno is sweet. Love watching it being filmed where we spend our vacation every year from about Dec 26 to mid January. So many familiar places and we even was privileged to watch them filming. Would love to get a stand-in on one while there next year!
