Saw this at the Palm Springs Film Festival. One word for it: TERRIBLE. Very disappointing considering CRAZY and Young Victoria were excellent.
That is one of the most misrepesentative trailers for a film I’ve seen in quite a while. Shows only on half of what the film is about, not even a frame of the present day story, and even then gives way too much of the Paris story away. I saw at the Toronto Film Fsetival last year and unlike sunrise, it was one of my favourites of the 25 odd movies I saw in that week. On par with the excellent CRAZY, and just as dynamic if not more with its brilliant use of pop music. I’d put Young Victoria behind this. I think it’s the kind of movie that works better if you go in with no pre-concieved notions, knowing nothing of what it is about.
Flawed film, unfortunately not that memorable. And I say that as an immense CRAZY fan, a film that, along with Brokeback Mountain & Milk, is the pinnacle of LGBT films.
