EXCLUSIVE: Jennifer Lopez is developing an hour-long drama for ABC Family. The so far untitled series is about a lesbian couple who suddenly have their already child heavy household turned upside down when a wayward teenage girl moves in. One of the mothers is a cop, the other is a private school teacher. They have one biological son and adopted teen twins, one a boy, the other a girl. The American idol judge is said to be planning to guest star in the show. Lopez will executive produce the series, which the network is fast tracking, with Simon Fields, her partner at Nuyorican Productions. Peter Paige and Brad Bredeweg, the creators and writers of the show, will also executive produce. Greg Gugliotta, who has worked with ABC Family before on movies like 2003’s Beautiful Girl, is also on board as an executive producer on the show. Executive Mina Lefevre is shepherding the show at ABC Family. Lopez is repped by UTA and managed by Benny Medina.

wow! I don’t think they could possibly have more crap going on in this horrible idea for a show.
I was rolling my eyes reading the headline, thinking it would be about dance or singing, but once I got through the article, I was pleasantly surprised with how different this is for her. It would be interesting to see how big of a part she gives herself. I wouldn’t mind seeing JLo on a TV series. She is very likable to watch week-in-and-out and still can attract an audience. Her movie career isn’t setting the world on fire, but at least it is interesting to see her do something different like this.
Mina is an exceptional exec, kudos to her.

Nothing against the premise. But come on, that synopsis does not represent the real makeup of America. I don’t think the homosexual community is as large as television portrays.
OMG . i can’t wait to see her again on tv . i love every thing that she does . like the perfect songs , amazing performances , great acting in the movies like “the backup plan” was one of my favorite movies , and herself in American Idol was beautiful. she rocks in everything . i loooooooooove you Jennifer.

First, you a clearly a pathetic bigot if you think that a lesbian family is not “family friendly” (and before you ask, yes i’m straight myself), but if you haven’t noticed, most of ABC Family’s original programming is not what you would consider “family” friendly (by your outdated definition of course), yet their programming is a huge success.
The only people who wont be interested in a type of show like this are the old republican/conservative morons who hate gays and think every Hispanic is an illegal immigrant. These people aren’t watching ABC Family’s original series anyways. These are the same people who wont let their kids watch Secret Life or Pretty Little Liars.
The target audience for ABC Family (F12-34) wont be turned off by a show about lesbians. ABC Family is doing just fine offending/not appealing to the conservative audience. Will this be a show conservative families in Arizona sit down to watch together? No, but they are unlikely to sit down to watch ANY ABC Family original series. If ABC Family was an actual “family G rated” network that went after conservative families with watered down outdated “family” shows then yeah this show would have a problem, but ABC Family is not that network, as their tagline suggests, they are a “new kind of family”. This show may be offensive to you, but it’s not offensive to anyone that matters (the ABC Family target audience) ABC Family is doing just fine putting out shows that are not suitable for your family.
Sounds like a great show, and Mina is a smart exec, but ABC Family needs to rethink their business model. Their half-hour comedies are doing great vs. the dramas. Why not make a push to be a more serious player in the cable comedy business? Half hours can repeat forever. More comedies like Melissa & Joey and Baby Daddy are the way to go. They could literally corner the market for that demographic group.
Why would any network in their right mind want to do business with this woman? She’s a hack of an actress, a bad singer and dancer, a horrible judge on AI and a horrible role model for teens. Just sad! Another show of hers that’s going to fail miserably.
So there really is someone who still gives a sh!t about J Lo. Huh. I’ll be damned.
Agree that Mina is great, but this feels very contrived to me…definitely not like the hit they need to build on PLL.
I sincerely hope Jennifer Lopez show will be about lesbians of colour and NOT white lesbians. There needs to be more diversity on television this show should have a Latina lebsian or an Asian lesbian or a black lesbian or Native American lesbian. White lesbians already had their own crappy television show the L Word!
I totally agree with you! I am a lesbian and first and for most Latina! I’ m also sick of watching lesbian reality shows that dont represent me! I find it interesting that she is doing this. Her aunt was gay and passed away several years ago of cancer. She was a teacher. She was one of my oldest friends. We worked together at the same school. I had a crush on her as a teen and even went on a date with her. She was an aspiring writer and her dream was to write and produce a movie. She would now and then send me one of her scripts to edit because I was also a lover of writing and majored in theater. I’m happy to see that her dream might come true through J Lopez’s vision! As you mentioned hopefully the main characters will be black, Latina or both! I miss my friend very much!

Someone will lose their job over moving forward with this kind of crap. First off, tell me when J Lo has been successful as an exec producer. Second, what part of that concept will appeal to ABC Family’s demo? Sounds like terrible film from a gay film fest.

Good for her and good for ABC Family. As an artist she has earned her stripes any way you quantify it. Artists break barriers and that upsets small-minded people, but artists forge ahead regardless. Without the courage to explore new ground, nothing great can be conceived.
