EXCLUSIVE: Kristen Bell will star in The Lifeguard, the film written and to be directed by Liz W. Garcia. Bell, who stars in Showtime’s House Of Lies, will star with Mamie Gummer, Martin Starr, Alex Shaffer, Joshua Harto and Amy Madigan. The film, which was packaged by CAA (the agency is selling domestic rights), will shoot in Pittsburgh this month. The film is being produced by Mike Landry and Carlos Velazquez of C Plus Pictures, along with Harto and Garcia of La Pistola, Inc. The co-production is in association with Attic Light Films, Wild Invention and Houndstooth. Bell will next be seen in Hit And Run. Garcia and Harto created Memphis Beat for TNT. They are repped by CAA and Madhouse Entertainment, while Bell’s repped by CAA and Brookside Artist Management. Gummer and Shaffer are also repped by CAA, with Gummer, Shaffer, Starr and Madigan at Anonymous Content.

Liz G is an insanely talented writer – that is a GREAT cast for a directorial debut – not too long ago Liz was an assistant. there is hope! Go Liz G!!
I love Kristen so much, but how many mistakes can one make before the goodwill she earned from Veronica Mars wears off?
Look at how many mistakes Kate Hudson had made and she never even earned any goodwill…hope Kristen is around much longer.
Go Liz! Love to see a woman TV writer cross over into features, especially as a director.
Awesome! great going Liz Garcia! One talented writer/director!
Yay for filming in Pittsburgh and the work of Dawn Keezer, head of the film office there.
It’s a great, visually diverse (and of course, less expensive) place to film.
Bell is as adorable as they come. The upside here is that it is one less Jennifer Aniston movie the spouse will force me to go to.
This sounds very intriguing, especially since I LOVE Bell. Though I’d rather the headline read “Kristen Bell To Star In Veronica Mars Movie.”
Omg me too I’ve been waiting for that movie forever
Hope the “dangerous” relationship doesn’t include her seducing him. Anything consenting adults do is their own business, but statutory rape isn’t cool even if done by a beautiful woman.
When I was 16, I would have let Kristen Bell do anything she wanted to me… Heck, when I’m 86, I still would.
Love, LOVE Kristen Bell from her Veronica Mars days. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen her in anything good, except the passable House of Lies. I gotta wonder whether it’s Bell or the scripts.
She’s gotta step out of her comfort zone and go a lot darker with more range. Maybe this Lifeguard thing has a little danger in it. Otherwise, she can join the Past “It” Girl Club with Bridget Fonda, Gretchen Mol, Mischa Barton, Ione Skye……. – I hear the guest speaker at this month’s luncheon is Drew Barrymore………
Ha! Throwing in Mischa Barton is just cruel!
Perfect location because when I think Lifeguard I think Pittsburgh. Reverse Lolita sounds awful.
Congratulations Liz and Josh. Can’t wait to see it.
Forgetting Sarah Marshall was good
So she rapes a minor? A minor can’t give permission. Any sex between an adult and a minor is rape. Too bad a female director needs to pander like this.

Go with the scripts. Television treats her better than the movies, I find.
Congrats Josh!!! Can’t wait to see you on the big screen again. I’m so proud of you. I’m proud to say I knew you when!
I loved Kristen Bell on ” Veronica Mars” ( and she is decent on ” House of Lies”) , but she is just not a strong actress ( and she is not magnetic on film). How can she compete with Emily Blunt, Anne Hathaway, Rooney Mara, Jennifer Lawrence, or the highly overrated Michelle Williams ( only excels in somber roles) ?! I just see Bell as another Sarah Michelle Gellar, strong on one show, but lousy in film. I am open to be surprised.
HOLLYWEIRD in it’s sick moronic liberal mind is now going to bring kiddieporn to the big screen. I guess they’re tired of Batman XXXII and Superman XIV along with Rambo meets Rocky in Nightmare on Elm Street XVI.
“The film, which was packaged by CAA”
That’s all you need to know about the quality of this project. It’s make “When in Rome” look like “Schindler’s List”. I mean,. what 30 year old wouldn’t jump at the chance of dumping their life as a functioning adult to prey on teenagers at the local suburban pool (didn’t Drew Barrymoore do this already?).
I see Alex is getting typecast as the delinquent. At least he is working. Break a leg kid.
