EXCLUSIVE: In their first development season after partnering last June to launch ABC Studios-based Di Bonaventura Pictures Television, Lorenzo Di Bonaventura and Dan McDermott landed a series on the air, ABC’s midseason conspiracy drama Zero Hour. Now the duo have netted one of ABC‘s first drama commitments of the new development cycle with another high-concept project. The network has bought drama pitch Founding Fathers, from Di Bonaventura Pictures TV and ABC Studios. Written by feature scribe Rich D’Ovidio (Exit Woods, Thir13en Ghosts), Founding Fathers is described as “Donnie Brasco set in the world of Texas militias.” It centers on Nick Keating who, after serving a third tour in Afghanistan, returns home to find his small Texas town under the control of a militia group led by his older foster brother. After being seduced by the militia’s surprisingly community-based motives, he accepts a rare invitation to join the group. But unbeknownst to his new “family,” Nick has a secret agenda that will put his life in jeopardy and lead him to question his allegiances. D’Ovidio executive produces with Di Bonaventura and McDermott.
Zero Hour stars Anthony Edwards as a man who, after spending 20 years as the editor of a skeptic magazine, becomes involved in one of the most compelling conspiracies in human history. Paradigm-repped D’Ovidio most recently penned the Halle Berry-starring feature The Hive, which is now filming. Di Bonaventura Pictures TV is with CAA.

Looks like it’s going to be yet another attack on the honorable name of Militia as a preemptive strike against anyone who believes our government is out of control and has betrayed us all for everything it was supposed to stand for. Never mind that Militia in this country is strictly defensive, not offensive, and never mind that the leftist politicians that attempt to violate the Second Amendment by way of demonization of semi-auto rifles as so called “Assault Rifles” along with anyone who owns them by way of attempting to redefine freedom, Liberty, and especially rights as not being a “need”. Of course not.
You don’t “need” such things and they’ll be sure to tell you what you do and don’t “need”. You don’t “need” a high capacity magazine. You don’t “need” that many firearms or that much ammo. You don’t “need” that scope or that sight.
Tired of the wannabe dictators yet? They’re making movies about you now. After all, the people are in fact the militia.
“I ask, sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people, except for a few public officials.”
— George Mason, in Debates in Virginia Convention on
Ratification of the Constitution, Elliot, Vol. 3, June 16, 1788
I havent watched this but I will bet this is another Hollywood idiot putting together a ‘militia bad’ ‘Govt good’? series. I hope when the defecation hits the oscillation that these Hollywood scum are the first to be ‘taken out’.
Goodness, who knew there were so many cry babies on this board? The article never said anything bad about the ‘militia.’ Simply said the lead character asked to be in it has a secret agenda, within the organization, that could put his life at risk. We don’t know for sure what that twist is and how it relates to
the militia.
As far as those commenters on real life politics, the gov’t better not this, that, or the other. etc… Please. Go load your gun and sit down somewhere and post on the next article about the industry that is Supposedly too liberal for you. BTW, Hollywood isn’tall that liberal.
You’re right. It might turn out that the militia will just end up being just a civic minded local organization trying to better the community probably via old fashion values and religion and nothing sinister. But that’s yet to happen in any of the TV or movies that deal with militias or even the tea party.
On the other hand, I’ve also yet to see a single TV show or movie that has shown a negative portrayal of the OWS or Acorn, even though there is alot more real and provable negative stuff about these two things compared to the tea party. And yes, I do see this show linking militias and the tea party together as one organziation, even though the two are completely seperate movements and origins.
How about this. All you knuckleheads who are fleeing the workers paradise of California for Texas because years of “progressive” policy has made it impossible to live and operate a business, just stay and lie in the bed you’ve made for yourselves then we’ll find it a tad bit easier to accept the laughable storylines you pump our homes a nightly basis. Mmkay?
An election year hit-piece TV series on the left’s biggest threat – The Tea Party. How long before we see a Gadsden Flag and the people in it’s presence in a bad light? Within 10 minutes of the first episode, I’d wager. I guarantee you’ll see images that will connect in the viewer’s mind, The Tea Party with domestic terrorism through the misuse of their “idea” of militias. This will be nothing more than media attempting to further bias public opinion against the right.
ABC and Disney are real losers. They need to watch who’s side they’re on – why don’t they just come out and admit that they’re FOR a Socialist system of government and a Command System economy?
Great.. Another chance to demonize Texas. False-propaganda is all they have left.
Me and all my buddies down here in Texas are in militias, we’re saving up to invade California but so many of them are moving to Texas these days we might have to call it off.
Drones flying over our cities and indeed our heartland, illegals are now legal just in time to count the votes, Chicago is a war zone, can’t walk the streets in DC or NY and not worry about stray bullets, unemployment above 8% but main street is doing just fine. Small businesses started by somebody other than the owners. Really ABC, your greatest challenge stares back at you in the mirror.
When are they gonna do a show about the Muslim groups in Dearborn Michigan?
They made it few years ago: Sleep Cell. Of course, the producers not only made the terrorists sympathic, but also multicultural. It’s completely old hat as usual and delusional. Remember all those multicultural gang found in movies and TV shows in the 1970s and early 1980s; of course unless the gang was skinheads.
Oh (big) brother.
Prepare if you haven’t. And seek out a real, local militia.
So Cal State Militia
Anyone who still watches TV — yes, even the Discovery Channel — is part of the problem. Get rid of your cable or satellite and stop going to Hollywood movies made by people who hate you and everything you stand for.
ABC. Anything
But
Credible
And whats with that little midget on GMA..uhh..George Assapopulous..he just looks hungry in the morning to spread that poison. I will not be watching All Bull Crap anymore!
A local militia takes over a town in the US?
No way in Obamaland.
It’s the military under the commander-in-chief community organizer who does that.
Loving these comments, West Texas!
Keep em’ coming!!
Hmm trying to make a accurate militia drama? For the first episode how about a group of Feds infiltrate the group that simply stands ffamily
ABC: Don’t Mess With Texas!
We don’t take kindly to progressive liberal girly-boys and we would appreciate it if you just stay in Hollywood or NYC, or wherever, and leave us alone. We are doing just fine and are living well and prospering better than any other State in America (despite of Obama and his Democrats.
We are particularly doing better than California and NYC.
You see, we are True Americans.
Be honest — you wrote this from your place in Cape Code with an ascot around your neck.
How bad can it be? If it’s on a night I’m not working I’ll watch an episode or two.Just to see how flagrant the statist agitprop gets.I wouldn’t bet the rent on it being anything else. But who knows?they may pleasently surprise all of us.
There must’ve been some Hollywood-types at SXSW drinking too much tequila who had a collective brain fart
Founding Fathers would probably last 4 episodes max. Except if it is biased enough and shows Texans in a bad light, or can fake people into believing it is an expose of the tea party, then it will get a full season pickup just on casting a negative light.
Why don’t they put some balance and do a true documentary on the OWS Dirtbaggers ?
Oh dear… a Drudge link! The typos and the psychos are out in force.
And lots of repeat posters pretending to be several people. Too bad the tags give it away.
Guys, calm the hell down and stop referencing how you’re going to grab your guns and attack Hollywood… kind of goes against the point you’re trying to make that Hollywood is unfairly portraying you as violent and unhinged.
This is a fictional TV show we’re talking about. Like Homeland, The Wire, Sopranos, etc. I’m guessing y’all didn’t watch those, but they are/were shows that had gangs and ethnic groups of all kinds doing bad things. Nobody is targeting you white dudes with guns any more than anybody else. Take a breath. Jeez.
Take the blue pill,if you are that clueless in the way the disinformation police work then I feel for you.
Villify, demonize, castigate, and make the public(sheeple) afraid of what has been in our Constitutional heritage for 235 plus years.
Now militia is a bad word.
The amazing thing is,according to the Const all men 18 and over, that are able bodied ARE members of the Unorganized militia.
The world has not seen the likes this leftist propaganda since Joseph Goebbels.
I didn’t know it was the militia movement in America that was in charge of the New World Order.
The militias aren’t going to do anything. The Texas militia can’t even protect it’s own border. Wannabe Rambos and campouts for the boys.
I agree with you. The militias are just play acting. They don’t have the guts to do anything, just look at the mess on theborder,
Yea wannabe Rambos, that’s a good one.
My dad was a Texas lawman who battled milita’s throughout the 70′s and 80′s. They’re very real and very robo-publican.
Gotta call BS on this one. I am as Texan as they get, born and raised my friend. I have not only not ever seen a ‘militia’ in Texas (save for the National Guard maybe), but I have never known anyone who has ever been in a militia. A bunch of us at work happened to have just talked about this the other day (due to the stupid Homeland Security videos that are obsessed with worrying about white guys who have never shown the slightest hint of trouble, but welcome with open arms anyone that burns a freakin American flag and shouts Allah Akbar or whatever the hell it is), and none of us in the discussion even knew of anyone that had ever known anyone in a militia. We are however, quite the independent lot down here.
In fact, I think a good show might be, a rogue President trying to send his Chicago-land thugs around the US as enforcers of his egomaniacal idiocy. You could climax the first season with a bunch of Chicago tough guys getting their asses handed to them when they come to Texas
Links? Surely these “battles” were newsworthy?
As to the premise of the series, why not highlight the muslim militias around the country? LOL, I’m sure they’ll be mentioned as an “acceptable” rebuttal to the alleged criminal militias in an episode or two.
Can’t remember the last time I watched the alphabet channels, no plans to ever again.
No, the battles were all covered up by Bush Sr. and his cronies. They don’t like you all any better than we do.
But lemme tell you, a lot of Texas ass got whopped and a lot of yucks were had around the dinner tables back in Maine and Delaware.
I believe the confederate flags you guys fly were even carved up into toilet paper.
Gee, what a comfortable view you must have from “the middle of the road”….as our country slides into a designed depression.
Been to a gun store on Sat. lately, or a shooting range, or checked the latest # of C/C permits. The Militia spirit is alive and well in the American people. April 19 1775 in Lexington, Captain John Parker stopped the Brits as they marched on Concord to enforce gun control. They where ordinary Americans and so are we. They knew once disarmed they would be “sugjects” not citizens, we too understand that simple concept.
