Here are a pair of teaser trailers for Zack Snyder‘s Man Of Steel starring Henry Cavill as the title character. They’re pretty much the same but each has different narration. This one is “Pa Kent” (Kevin Costner):
This one is “Jor-El” (Russell Crowe):
New ‘Man Of Steel’ Television Spot #6

“I might not be able to carry the kryponite Mr. Superman, but I can carry you!”
Awesome! Very odd that they used that music.
Also, why would Superman make a vapor trail similar to a plane when he doesn’t have water vapor exhaust from engines? Is he releasing his own gas?
Because he couldn’t pull off the sonic rainboom.
Good point — and why are there TWO vapor trails? Does he have two, uh, exhaust holes?
No: you’re not looking at exhaust, you’re looking at air vectoring — the drag being sliced by protrusions. In this case it would be his two boot-tips. Wingtips on planes make the same streaks, and it’s not exhaust (though in the wide shot it does look like exhaust at first, LOL.)
HAHAHAHA! I was wondering the same thing.
It looks like it’s beautifully lensed, but neither of these trailers get me excited for this movie.
You Rock, Joe T!
Not at all what I was expecting…which is precisely why I love both of these teasers so much.
I actually really enjoyed the teaser (I saw the one with the Costner narration) for this and it did make me interested in the film.
Not what I was expecting either.
Much as it pains me that it’s from the director of 300 and Watchmen, at least the trailer looks good.
Real, practical backgrounds and a VO that suggests they have the tone right.
Just please don’t let it be anything that elicits praise like ‘romp’, ‘mindless summer fun’ or, the very worst, ‘it’s good, for a comic book movie’.
What’s the “tone” you are looking for — a deadly serious, pretentious movie where Superman again complains about how he doesn’t fit in and nobody likes him?
Nice.
America’s worst director teams up with one of its worst screenwriters to make another bombastic pile of excrement. This has the potential to be even worse than The Dark Knight Rises.
Wow, it’s amazing how much I felt was missing from this without John Williams’ score. I know it’s a totally different thing, and that’s cool – I’ll probably see it, because I enjoy the character of Superman – but I really love (and will miss) Mr. Williams’ brilliant music.
That was one of the worst teasers I’ve ever seen. Pretentious, Terence Malick like imagery? A bearded Clark Kent playing DEADLIEST CATCH? Narration about how Superman doesn’t fit in and how the world doesn’t understand him?
No wonder why the crowd laughed at, then booed, this teaser when I saw it in front of The Dark Knight Rises on Friday.
Good luck with this deadly serious approach with the character. It’s as if nobody WANTS to make a Superman film — it’s all about altering the character so he “fits in” with the modern world. It’s not how Donner played it in ’78 and it’s not going to work with this film either. Looks like another SUPERMAN RETURNS/GREEN LANTERN disappointment for Warners unless the film itself isn’t nearly as pretentious and heavy as these teasers…but between Nolan and Snyder, I doubt that’s going to happen.
“One of the WORST teasers you’ve ever seen”? Really? I think the problem is not the teaser, but that it doesn’t fit the apparently narrow-minded vision of what a Superman movie needs to be for you to enjoy it.
Personally, I like this teaser, of course I liked the Superman returns teaser, as well. Hated the Green Lantern one and not sure why you would compare the two.
I find it puzzling why anyone would boo this trailer. Maybe they don’t like Zach Snyder, or Superman. Who knows, but I thought the teaser worked well.
He’s comparing the two b/c they’re both big, fat, bloated superhero flops that failed at the script stage yet were somehow made on $200+M budgets.
And, yeah, he’s right. Superman’s not Batman. The tone seems deadly serious. Superman is bright and fun. Yes, it should have kick-ass action and (pardon) super-fast pacing, but this trailer DOES look like the one for Batman Begins.
Using LOTR soundtrack (Gandalf’s fall into the abyss of Khazad Dum) and ripping off Terrence Malick’s visuals is a bit too OTN if you ask me.
And a script by David S. Goyer? No wonder why it’s going to suck.
Was that a trailer for Superman or the next season of Deadliest Catch?
Now that’s funny!
Trailer looks like ‘The Tree of Tights’
The Dark Knight Trilogy – Batman reimagined as a Michael Mann film
The Man of Steel – Superman reimagined as a Terrence Malick film
I suppose I’ll give it a chance.
Inexplicable vapor trail notwithstanding, this looks very promising. After enduring the horror of SUCKERPUNCH, I’m sighing in relief watching this.
And even though I believe darkness is needed for the telling of a superhero story, PLEASE PLEASE make it lighter–rather, less BLEAK–than TDKR
Hate to crash the praise party but this trailer hides a multitude of sins. The attempt to Nolanize Superman will fail because of the character. You can’t send superman on a Dark Knight journey of self-discovery. Fishing boats and hitchhiking… bullshit.
There hasn’t been a decent Superman movie since the first one and that’s because they got the casting right. You cast Clark Kent not Superman.
After seeing the bloated spectacle of DTKR. I think Mr. Nolan had reached his ego limit. This will take him over the top— and Snyder is a one-trick pony.
Batman begins is closer to the graphic novels as are the other 3 films than to the comics of my mom’s generation. I don’t know if there are even superman graphic novels but i am sure ther is a good reason nolan has taken the story in this direction. Maybe it is closer to the graphic novels.
The Donner films wpuld not work in 2012 or 2013. For me it would have been more interesting if this reboot had been 100% backstory and only took place on the planet krypton and the makers ditched the tights.
@anon
Guess you missed the part in ‘Superman II’ where Clark Kent was hitchhiking back to his now destroyed Fortress of Solitude??
Pretentious pr ck..
Looks like Superman as realized by Terrence Malick (and that’s a good thing!)
Superman 2 was a grwat film for its time. But it is still hard to get audiences to wrap their heads around a man in a blue and red suit as opposed zo a kid (spiderman). But maybe this one has the right feel.
Agreed! Kneel before Zod!
This looks incredible. Snyder and Nolan looked to have nailed it. Love the Lord of the Rings music, this is one beautiful trailer. Cannot wait for this. Well done.
part of me hates everything and expected to hate this mostly because another Brit is playing a Superhero and most of all Superman, but I really liked it and am feeling something I hardly feel…… Excited!
Love that they quote from Grant Morrison’s genius “All-Star Superman” for the Jor-El narration.
I thought that people complained that ‘Superman Returns’ was boring with not much action?
Then WB release this! While I personally like these it’s a strange decision as you can only make one first impression.
There were much deeper criticisms of Bryan Singer’s Superman than just “boring with not much action”. Also please remember this is only a teaser. It doesn’t show much of anything.
Maybe the new supes can turn back time and save Captain Phil from Deadliest Catch. I have more hope of that happening than this being good at all.
Looks like the Deadliest Catch narrated by Kevin Costner.
So far so good!
Crowe has an excellent voice for narration.
Watched Gladiator again a few weeks ago and it still stands as one of my all time faves!
Very different tone for a superman film, can’t wait.
Also the reason for the water vapor trail is because he flew through clouds, you know those big fluffy wet things.
haha. that made me giggle. lol
This does exactly what a teaser should do, “tease.” It shows that they are going for a more realistic tone (a good thing), and made me excited to see what happens next.
I miss the John Williams score, but respect they’re trying to start a new chapter in Supes’ movie life.
All the cynical haters above calling bullshit on Clark going all “deadliest catch” and having a Dark Knight type “voyage of self-discover”… that’s been part of the comic canon for decades. Before becoming Superman (and indeed once or twice once he took up the cape), Clark traveled the world trying to find his place in it. It’s nothing new, and serves to humanize him.
As far as the “vapor trilas”, they are not that. He is simply displacing clouds or air as he pushes through it at an incredible speed/force. It’s physics, people.
Can’t wait to see more; wondering what the comic con crowd got to see beyond that.
“As far as the “vapor trilas”, they are not that. He is simply displacing clouds or air as he pushes through it at an incredible speed/force.”
Then tell me, sir scientist, why he is displacing them into two vapor trails, just like you’d see from an airplane.
You got me with the spelling mistake. “Vapor trails.” I was just referencing an earlier post. Have you ever seen footage of a plance breaking the sound barrier or flying at other insane speeds? They displace air and create those kinds of trails that superman does.
They are not “vapor trails”, they are just displacing air.
-Sir scientist
Because he has two legs and two feet. If he had one, there’d be one. Or three if he had three.
You’re right Cautiously Optimistic. This is close to the canon and everyone on this thread hating it are pretentious because they want to knock Nolan and make “witty” swipes at it. People doubted Batman Begins…. But with Zack Snyder helming visuals and Nolan producing and controlling the reins on ZSynder this MOS film will be great
If I do go see this movie about a hitchhiking crab fisherman… I’ll need to remember to watch it on youtube and not the blurry msn. oh, and it looked boring.
