EXCLUSIVE: Mark Strong, who starred in the 2006 British miniseries Low Winter Sun, is in negotiations to reprise his role in AMC‘s U.S. adaptation. James Ransone is set to co-star in the drama pilot, a co-production between Endemol Studios and AMC Studios.
Written/executive produced by Chris Mundy (Criminal Minds), the AMC project is described as a contemporary story of murder, deception, revenge and corruption that starts with the murder of a cop by fellow Detroit detective Frank Agnew (Strong). Seemingly the perfect crime, in reality the murder activates forces that will forever alter that detective’s life and pull him into the heart of the Detroit underworld.
Ransone will play Damon Callis, a member of the Detroit organized crime syndicate.
Strong drew critical praise for playing Frank Agnew in the 2006 two-part mini (photo above), in which Frank was one of two cops who murder a fellow officer. He will next be seen in Kathryn Bigelow’s Zero Dark Thirty. Ransone, repped by UTA and Management 360, will next be seen in the features Broken City and Empire State.

Sounds a little like THE SHIELD.
Excellent casting choices so far. Excited to see who they go to next.
Yes, Hollywood. More Mark Strong vehicles, please!
Pretty excited to see James Ransone in this.
Mark Strong was my first choice for Stannis Baratheon of Game of Thrones, though I am perfectly happy with Stephen Dillane in that role. Hopefully this show is nothing like The Killing. The only good thing that came from that series was Joel Kinnaman.
The Killing is trite.
I didn’t think AMC did remakes but I love their current line up so I will give it a shot. I’m unfamiliar with John Ramson and I’m not too sure I know who Mark Strong is. Though, as I said, I will give it a shot. It’s a shame a more refined actor like James Franco wasn’t chosen to lead the pack. He would make both an excellent police and criminal. He has that certain something most actors simply lack. He would be excellent but I suppose he is a movie star. I’m looking forward to this new development! Perhaps the pilot will get picked up and AMC will continue bringing us great stories!
No, just this show called The Killing.
James Ransone (not John Ramson, where did you get that from?) is pretty much a no frills James Franco clone so you’ll be satisfied.
I agree. Franco would make a great crime lord. Him or Zac Efron. Though I liked James’ crime lord work on Hawaii 50.
Looking forward to the show, but if it’s true to life the Detroit police won’t show up until episode three
