EXCLUSIVE: Nickelodeon has ordered three multi-camera comedy pilots. Family comedy Instant Mom, which has Tia Mowry in negotiations to star, is for nighttime channel Nick at Nite that targets adult/adolescent viewers, while the superhero-themed The Thundermans and supernatural The Haunted Hathaways are for the daytime children’s channel.
Instant Mom, from Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment, was written by Warren Bell and Jessica Butler loosely based on their real life. It centers on a 25-year-old party girl (Mowry) who trades in cosmos for carpools when she marries an older man with kids. Bell, Butler and Kaplan executive produce the project, which intends to cast an all-black family. This marks Kaplan’s second pilot for Nick at Nite along with Wendell & Vinnie starring Jerry Trainor; it is 3-year-old Kapital Entertainment’s 15th pilot. For Mowry — who toplines with her twin sister the Style reality series Tia & Tamera – this marks a return to scripted comedy. She recently left BET’s The Game, where she co-starred for five seasons.
The Thundermans, written by Jed Spinarn (Big Time Rush), centers on Phoebe Thunderman who just wants to be a normal teenager, but there’s a bit of a problem: she comes from a family of superheroes. And, while most superheroes are lucky to have one power, phoebe happens to have twelve.
The Haunted Hathaways, written by Robert Peacock (The Soul Man), is described as “The Brady Bunch meets Beetle Juice.” It is set in New Orleans and centers on the Hathaway siblings who discover a family of other worldly beings living in their new home.

Exactly! It makes no sense. Why leave an established show with good ratings on an adult network for insipid family sitcom?
The Game is filmed in Georgia. She lives in LA with a new baby. The Nick show likely will be filmed in LA at Nick Studios.
I don’t think this will come across as insipid though. It’s apparent that Tia was looking for a change and that she and her co-star Pooch Hall probably didn’t like the direction things were going in with “The Game” anyway. When it moved to BET it became less of a comedy (which is what they signed up for) and more of a campy drama. This seems to be more of what she wants to do as far as television acting goes. I hope it gets picked up.
Good ratings? The Game barely topped 2m viewers per episode this past season not only after its premiere of 5-6m, but its debut on BET, when it garnered 7-8m viewers. Not to mention The Game has been trashed week after week by its declining viewership, so this is a good move for Tia.

The Game devolved into lowbrow ghetto trash. She was better than the ridiculous storylines she was given. Good for her for taking the leap to another network.
I completely agree! Tia is much better that. I loved The Game during its first few seasons… I loved her character Melanie during the first few seasons…but the last two seasons Mel became something else… No disrespect to the new or old cast and writers but they started down a slippery slope that will lead to cancellation. That show is becoming very cliche. Brandy’s character, God bless her heart, is going to bring this show completely to the urban eye. Tia did right by leaving. She is much more mainstream. Her acting style and skills will afford ER these and many more opportunities.
Nick used to have the greatest shows, rugrats, HEy Arnold, cat dog, and ATLA are some of them. But all your new shows have just come to disappoint, and it looks like all of these will do the same…

Good for Tia. The Game has turned to a hot ghetto mess ever since it landed on BET. This seems to be more of a quality, family oriented sitcom that is more on her level of class.
The Nick at Nite Wendell & Vinnie pilot is great. Pick it up and get it into production already!
For those of you saying she left “the game for this” have clearly not seen the last 2 seasons of the show. When it was on The CW it was a sharply written comedic gem but once BET got their hands on the show the descent to mediocrity began and they plunged further into debauchery as though they were trying to appeal to the lowest common denominator. It was so bad that even I a loyal viewer had to shut my tv off. Not to mention the network was stiffing her on money they agreed to pay her when she first signed on. While Instant Mom doesn’t sound groundbreaking it seems like a fun show and a good for for Tia. I’ll give it a watch.
It’s called acting moron. It’s not necessarily how old you are but how old you look. If The Glee kids can play teenagers when some of them are 30 then Tia can certainly play 25. She most definitely looks the part.

For those of u that’s saying she left The Game for this don’t have your facts in order. She was offered a reoccurring role rather than a regular character as she were before.
She left because they were goimg to make her a recurring character instead of a regular. Though she wanted to stay, she felt that her family was more important and she gave it up. After being out of a job for a while she went on auditions and took the first job they gave her because she may not get another opporunity. Instant Mom can possibly become a great Nick at Nite Program…you never know. But as an actor who has been out of a job you will be happy with what they give you. On this show she isnt a recurring, shes a main character. I wouldve took it myself.

Some of these comments are just rude. For the people who are her fans , ACT LIKE IT. This is actually a blessing for Tia because she has been waiting for a good opportunity like this to fall into her hands. If you watch the Tia & Tamera show which comes on Style Network there is one episode when she finally gets a job from which makes her soooo happy. So if Tia is happy then I’m her fan is also happy. (I’m only 15,been a fan of both Tia and Tamera since Sister Sister)

Tia did not leave “The Game” for this show. She actually didn’t have any intention of leaving “The Game” until the producers of the show wanted to drop her from a contract role to recurring. Understandably so, she felt that staying on as recurring was iffy and could block her from being on another show with more steady work. Her reality show shows her struggling with the decision and how she ultimately decided to leave. And I definitely agree with the other comments about “The Game” not being the same as it was before. It’s way too dark and heavy now, very little comedy anymore.
I think this is a great opportunity for Tia. I am actually going to audion if I get a chance.

Obviously you have not watched Tia and Tamara or you would all know why she left the game. They were not casting her as a costar anymore, they wanted her to come back as a guest star basically. She would no longer me a regular on the show. So she chose not to come back as a fill in. The new show will be worth watching. I will watch it and you should too.

The game left her. Her character as melonie was written out of the game this season. But she could come back and make appearances from time to time which she chose not to do. She wanted and needed to work Steady and full time work.
No, Tia left the Game prior to her being offered a new sitcom. Tia left the Game due to significant cast changes where she was reduced to a reoccurring role on the show. I definitely agree with her moving on to new and exciting projects that continue to broadcast and highlight her comedic talent. #TEAMTIA!
