The parents of a stuntman killed last year in an explosion on a 2nd unit location for The Expendables 2 in Bulgaria have filed suit in Los Angeles Superior Court against NuImage, Millennium Films and individuals associated with the production. The lawsuit filed today alleges negligence in the death of Kun Liu, son of plaintiffs Zong Yu Liu and Yan Mei Bai. Liu was killed in the blast at Lake Ognyanovo about 15 miles outside Sofia. Another stuntman, Nuo Sun, was seriously injured in the accident. The lawsuit says the explosion occurred October 27, 2011 on or near a “rubber boat” during filming of a stunt for the movie. Liu’s parents are seeking general and economic damages to be determined in a jury trial plus funeral and burial expenses and court costs.

Theyre hoping to get payment in lui of his life.
This joke doesn’t work on so many levels.
@Bernstein…You are a true Asshole. Sending bad energy your way. Hope you feel some pain soon.
Very sad… dying while making a fucking movie. A shitty one at that.
Nu Image and Millennium are so cheap in all areas, I would be shocked if this went to trial, since the Nu Image does not want their production practices (and how they cut corners) compared to others. The parents would get UPM types, et al to testify on their behalf and the jury will see how these guys do business. Even if the production was not at fault, a trial is not something they want. The family will receive a settlement.
You got that right.
Was this stuntman a SAG performer? (It is only recently, that I discovered professional stuntmen DON’T have a union of their own. Rather, they are covered under the SAG union, which I find to be a bit scary considering stuntmen need safety standards that are “stunt” focused).
Don’t know if the actor was fatally killed as a result of production occurring outside of the US, leading to a possible lax in safety standards. There is something to be said about onsite filming locations, but there also needs to be qualified professionals keeping an eye on things to ensure the safety of all involved.
