It was all Olympics all night Sunday and NBC earned a gold. The live athletics started off with the U.S. Olympic Team Trials: Track and Field Finals (1.4/5) at 7 PM, which was down 7% from the track and field trials on July 6, 2008. Then it was the Swimming Finals (2.1/7), which was up 5% from the July 6, 2008 edition. In fast nationals, Sunday’s swimming trials were the second-most-watched Olympic trials telecast since August 20, 2000, with an estimated 7.7 million overall viewers. The U.S. Olympic Team Trials: Gymnastics Women’s Final (3.2/9) from San Jose, CA ran from 9-11:05 PM and pulled in 9.9 million viewers overall last night, according to fast national estimates. This year’s gymnastics finals were up 60% from the one that ran from 7-9 PM on June 22, 2008. NBC won the night in adults 18-49 and total viewers.
ABC started the night with a repeat of America’ Funniest Home Videos (1.1/4), That was followed by a new Secret Millionaire (1.1/4), which was down 27% from its last original three weeks ago, making it the show’s lowest-rated broadcast ever. It was more of the same for the two-hour Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition (1.2/3) that followed. It was down 20% from its last original June 10 and also had its lowest-rated broadcast ever.
CBS had a repeat of 60 Minutes (1.1/4) at 7 PM, which still brought in more than 8.4 million viewers overall. Then it was into the drama with repeats of Hawaii Five-O (0.7/2), The Good Wife (0.5/2) and The Mentalist (0.7/2). Fox also went with all repeats, with American Dad (0.7.3), The Cleveland Show (0.8/3), The Simpsons (1.4/5), Bob’s Burgers (1.2/4), Family Guy (1.4/4) and another American Dad (1.4/4).
