I hear Showtime‘s cancer comedy The Big C will make it a full circle with a pickup for a fourth and final season. There has been chatter recently about the series starring Laura Linney coming to an end. Showtime brass are expected to address the issue at the network’s TCA executive session this afternoon. I hear The Big C was designed to run for four seasons, with each season chronicling a calendar season of Cathy’s (Linney) life following her cancer diagnosis. The producers of the Sony TV series have stuck to the template for the first three cycles and are expected to close the storyline a year after it started. The Big C, created by Darlene Hunt and run by Jenny Bicks, had a strong ratings start, tapering off in Seasons 2 and 3. It earned star Linney a Golden Globe and an Emmy nomination. The Big C would be one of two Showtime comedies renewed for a final season, along with veteran Weeds.

Laura Linney is the best. The Big C is a good show, but it is starting to wear thin. Cutting it off after four seasons is a wise move.
Agreed. This last season was almost unwatchable. Terrible scripts and ridiculous, tedious plotting. And the characters never stopped shouting and insulting each other. It’s off the rails.
Couldn’t agree more. So disappointed with the way it has gone. Love Laura Linney, Oliver Platt, John Benjamin Hickey, Gabriel Basso AND Gabourey Sidibe … but the subtlety and sensitivity of their acting so undermined by the utter lack of subtlety and ridiculousness of the new storylines. I started mourning this one before it died: and I loved it so much.
I liked it until Susan Sarandon joined the show. Then I dropped it. Over-the-top schtick.
I’ve been a fan of “The BIG C” since day 1 and Linney has done a spectacular job on the series. I’m thankful that Showtime is giving it the chance to end on it’s own terms and bring a real conclusion to the story and not just leave Kathy floating around the ocean somewhere…
I love Laura Linney but the show has become too outrageous and silly for me. Why did they have to cross the line into insanity? The first season of her rebelling against expectations was awesome.
It will be missed. I like Laura Linney. Season one and then two are the best so far.
Can they PLEASE, pretty please bring back Idris Elba for season four? She runs off with Lenny and has a fabulous time, and then dies with him by her side in a hospice? I mean, the show is already off the rails, so why not?
I would have to agree that season 3 was not the best but I still think this show is truly touching. Cathy trying to find herself and enjoy the little time she has left. I love Laura Linny because of this show. she did a great job portraying Cathy. Sad to see it go but I kinda knew what I was getting into when I 1st started watching. I’m really going to ball my eyes out if and when they kill Cathy. :’(
