EXCLUSIVE: The Headless Horseman is making a splash at the onset of this year’s broadcast development season. The CW is in talks for Sleepy Hollow, a drama series project from Missing writers Patrick Macmanus and Grant Scharbo and producers Gina Matthews of Little Engine Prods (Missing) and Aaron Berger and Carina Schulze of Chatrone Prods. The project, described as a boundary-pushing horror story for television, is a contemporary take on the classic tale The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow, in which FBI Agent Ichabod Crane arrives in Sleepy Hollow to investigate a mysterious beheading. Sleepy Hollow is not set up at a studio yet.
Talks with CW come just as another Sleepy Hollow drama pitch is being shopped to Fox, CBS, ABC and NBC. Also titled Sleepy Hollow and also envisioned as a contemporary take on the tale, that project hails from Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, with Len Wiseman attached to direct. It is unclear whether the arrival of the Kurtzman-Orci project to the marketplace would affect the Macmanus-Scharbo one at the CW.
In a similar situation, last development season both ABC and the CW developed Beauty And The Beast dramas, both of which went to pilot — with the CW one making it to series.

Oh dear lord.
What the hell.
Is this a new trend with the CW? They have to have a carbon-copy pilot of the other networks every year or something? Last year “Beauty and the Beast” and now this…
Too bad the other project sounds a lot more promising, and would probably actually work on the CW, while this version I just don’t know…
What about OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN
and
WHIT HOUSE DOWN??
surprised it doesn’t happen more often in TV.
What kind of shady business is going on over there, Pedowitz?
CW the new FOX
Yes, maybe. It looks like it will with Pedowitz on board.
Wow! What a crazy coincidence? Who could imagine such a thing?
Not worth commenting on.
Well, I guess I just did…..
Two identical bad project from two identically bad producing teams…
Kurtzmann and Orci keep producing dreack that nobody wants to see and Missing was a big dud.
Of course, by all means, let’s re-hire the same people!!!
Way to go Hollywood!
At least it isn’t about teens. And it doesn’t have a hip name like “The Hollow”
sounds like just a sad piece of generic crap…
I don’t think this is a grand conspiracy or a case of someone ripping off someone else’s idea. It happens all the time esp with writers taking inspiration from ‘classic’ PUBLIC DOMAIN source material be it fairy tales or Ichabod Crane. It seems like the one CW is considering might’ve preceded K/O’s, given it’s already being considered at a network, while the other hasn’t been pitched..but anyway good luck to all of ‘em!:)
Know for a fact that CW heard the pitch on Monday, long before K/O came out with theirs.
From the team that brought us ‘Missing’? (my eyes hurt from rolling so hard)
I’d have passed on the phone.
Suspect you’ll never be in a position to pass on anything.
Sounds like a good idea for the CW. Supernatural is getting long in the tooth and played out. This could be the perfect replacement.
I won’t rest until every network (broadcast and cable) has their own Sleepy Hollow series. My legend must be re-told everywhere possible.
@Niles Ichabod Crane: haahaahaa that made me laugh!!
You are correct on the timing ‘just saying’!!!
Perhaps Hollywood will begin trying new faces and ideas. And critics that cannot sell anything even to their parents will
WATCH AND LEARN
I could see maybe a headless biker with an ax chopping off peoples heads and collecting them and ichabod trying to stop him but other supernatural things are happening too.
I am a huge fan of the story from Washington Irving and it’s Sleepy hollow story and I loved the movie with johnny Depp, the classic cartoon movie give me wonderful Halloween memories.
I don’t know about you but if they make this into a tv show, i would support it all the way.
And the very thing we can at least do,
is GIVE IT A CHANCE!!!
