EXCLUSIVE: Sony Pictures has just closed a deal for an untitled love story that Cameron Crowe will direct in the spring, with Emma Stone starring. Crowe wrote the script, and Scott Rudin is producing. I’m told the project is a two-hander, and that the male lead hasn’t yet been set, and that the tone is reminiscent of past Crowe films Almost Famous and Jerry Maguire. Stone just starred for the studio in The Amazing Spider-Man and completed Gangster Squad. She’s repped by WME and Anonymous Content; Crowe is repped by CAA.

I love his writing…….directing? Not so much.
more awesome entertainment from the “genius” scott rudin
Let the CAA assault on Emma Stone begin
well in progress, my friend, well in progress
Crowe hasn’t been the same since Elizabethtown. Neither have Bloom and Dunst for that matter.
WE BOUGHT A ZOO was one of the delights of last year!
Didn’t Dunst win the best actress prize at Cannes AFTER “Elizabethtown”?
My favorite filmmaker and my favorite young actress, I’d go see her do a table read of this. Don’t even care who the other cast is. Cameron and Emma is enough.
Can’t think of any major missteps she’s made yet, so hopefully this is another winner.
rex, did you see Emma Stone’s performance in ” The Help?” And, performance in the “Gangster Squad,” looks laughable.
If you’re going to try to credit Emma with laughable performances, try PAPERMAN or THE HOUSE BUNNY, not THE HELP (Best Picture nominee) and GANGSTER SQUAD (which hasn’t even been released yet). This is coming from an Emma Stone who can accept when people write negative comments about her… Expect when they’re wrong.
I like them both, her in particular but this will do more harm than good. He’s great at charming talent and even better at hanging them out to dry in the final cut.
she was smart to do those nothing roles in Superbad and Zombieland for Sony.
Hope its better than the last film he made with Spider-Man’s other girlfriend–the godawful, unwatchable & unending ELIZABETHTOWN!
The guy hasn’t made a movie for a studio that’s been profitable since Jerry Maguire. Nobody sees movies like the ones he makes anymore. And no studio wants to make them.
Not true. I’d like to see more films like Crowe’s best–and so would lots of people I know. There are many films like his that do modestly well–not blockbuster numbers, of course.
The secret of Crowe’s success is he’s great at soundtracks: people usually remember his movies as better than they are because he puts decent songs together.
Know what you are talking about….We Bought A Zoo was very profitable and good…I would think the movie starts this year…
EMMA sequel Spiderman…both Sony…yea this fall.

Cameron Crowe makes Hollywood romances about human beings not terminators and sprites set against a green screen backdrop. The day that films such as his don’t exist is the day we’re all done. Are they all perfect? No. But then again neither are you. Bridget Fonda. Renee Zellweger. Frances McDormand. Penelope Cruz. Kirsten Dunst. (I actively dislike “Vanilla Sky.” I feel that Crowe and Paramount were hoodwinked by Cruise into constructing a subliminal commercial for Scientology that resembles their ongoing efforts at propaganda and the media viral “propagation” of the “faith” that has become ENDEMIC.)…Scarlett Johansson. Crowe likes and respects women and it shows. Emma Stone sounds exactly right to me. And if it doesn’t quite work like the majority of his films do I’ll probably still enjoy it on its own terms. I always do. If it were possible to know what is going to last TODAY – right now – “Citizen Kane” would have won Best Picture, wouldn’t it have? And isn’t that what Harvey Weinstein does every year? Browbeats the Academy and the public – in head butts and viral bites – into HIS call for the INSTA-CLASSIC OF LASTING VALUE! Which is usually never the case. Many of his films could have been lost in the shuffle were it not for this annual formula applied to marketing dough. Their “significance” shifts BECAUSE of the Oscar push. Ovitz and Hubbard-think. Success at the Kool-Aid till (and Oscar “received opinion” freebase factory) is a science. Although I can’t wait to see “Django Unchained” and thought that “Cassandra’s Dream” was fascinating and under-rated.
