BREAKING: Richard Armitage, who plays Dwarves’ leader Thorin Oakenshield in the Peter Jackson-directed The Hobbit, will move over to star in another New Line film. He’ll topline the untitled tornado film, the one that originally was set up under the title Category 6. Armitage has an accomplished resume, and was particularly good as tragic agent Lucas North in the British series MI-5.
The Walking Dead‘s Sarah Wayne is also starring, making this a very Comic-Con-centric film. Steve Quale is directing John Swetnam’s script. Todd Garner is producing. Alycia Debnam-Carey also recently joined the film, which follows a group of high school teens dealing with the aftermath of a devastating tornado. Armitage, who also appeared in The First Avenger: Captain America, is repped by WME and United Agents.

This guy’s interesting. Great as Sir Guy on the BBC “Robin Hood.” Moody presence done really well.
Lucky to get him now, this guy is going to be huge. Between him and Sarah Wayne Callies this is turning out to be an interesting cast. Looking forward to this one.
Yes!
Can’t wait for this. I hope they show footage!
Good casting on this.
Wow! Hard-working, talented actor who deserves all good things! Hope, at the end of this movie, he gets the girl and lives happily ever after.

Indeed, considering that in basically all of Armitage’s major dramatic roles so far (outside N&S) his character comes to a rather different sort of ending.
happy for him! loved him on Season 1 of Strikeback!
Just wait till the US population discovers this man in December. Thanks to Netflix I found him almost two years ago in N&S. Now I compare every male lead to him, but no one comes close.
Extraordinario actor!!
Sabe sacar lo mejor de cada personaje, por pequeño que éste sea.
Dará credibilidad y seriedad a la historia, eso seguro.
American movie goers are going to be surprised by how far behind we are in appreciating Richard Armitage. Canadian, British, and other non US tv and movie viewers are very familiar with him through BBC’s North and South, Robin Hood, Spooks (MI-5), and Chris Ryan’s Strike Back, not to mention “Sparkhouse” and “Frozen”. I’m amazed how flooded the US talk shows are with James Bond/Daniel Craig, and the cast from the Twilight series, yet no one’s taking much notice of Armitage and other The Hobbit actors. Even the WB merchandising will be caught unawares when the “Armitage Army” fans hit the stores and movie theaters. Huge audience out there being ignored.
