Cinemark, which owns the theater where this morning’s shooting took place, is -3.2% in early trading. And others are down as well: The largest chain, Regal, is -3.3%, and IMAX is -1.8%. Smaller chains are also off more than the market. Marcus and Reading are both -0.8%. In addition, companies that serve theaters are being hit. Ad sales company National CineMedia is -1.8% and 3-D technology firm RealD is -0.5%. The one big exception is Carmike. It’s up 2.0% following a Bloomberg report last night that said it could be a takeover target.

really? this is a story right now? wall street has no soul.
I’m done taking my family to movie theaters. They aren’t safe anymore, overpriced, and there’s always some loud a-hole somewhere ruining the experience for the other movie-goers.
I’m done, Hollywood. I’ll still watch your crap on pay-per-view, but that’s it.
whatever.
Speaking for Hollywood, you will not be missed.
I believe BP stock plummeted too after a dozen people died in that rig explosion. BP’s stock has since recovered, and no one has gone to jail for those deaths or for spilling millions of gallons of oil into the ocean. And the mainstream media has dropped the story.
The 1% move to profit from a tragedy.
This time they are pressuring a stock for no legitimate reason other than to make it move lower to buy it.
Don’t sell if you own this stock.
Havent been to movie tgeater in iver 2.5 yrs. Surprised this doesnt happen more often in theaters malls public areas restsurants bars etc..in israel you have to go thru security for a movie
I just went down to my local theater and OMG they still charged me money to see Batman!!!! How can they think about money on a day like this?!?!?!
I’m surprised that CineMark didn’t have ushers doing aisle checks. Usher/floaters had to do that at Loew’s Cineplex, when it wasn’t bought up by rival chains or foreign private-equity firms. Not that I’m saying that ushers should be the first line of defense against robbers, serial killers, or terrorists, but they could have handled the evacuation of moviegoers a little bit better; moreover, there might have been less casualties. I’ll wait for the DVD to come out. Since I no longer work in a theatre, I don’t get to see stuff for free. I miss the movies. I don’t miss customers and their attitudes. The Colorado theatre shooting justifies my assertions.
