UPDATE: TV Land just announced that it has scheduled marathon programming blocks of The Andy Griffith Show from 8 AM-1 PM tomorrow and from 11 AM-8 PM on Saturday and Sunday. The show has been a staple on the network for years and even dedicated a statue to Griffith in Raleigh, North Carolina.
PREVIOUS, 8:59 AM: Turner Classic Movies will show four Andy Griffith films on July 18 as a tribute to the actor, who died Tuesday at age 86. The network will remember his life and career with the Elia Kazan-directed A Face In The Crowd (1957) at 8 PM ET, followed by No Time For Sargeants (1958) at 10:15, Hearts Of The West (1975) at 12:30, and Onionhead (1958) at 2:15.

TCM should consider running the original TV version of No Time For Sergeants from The United States Steel Hour. It is an amazing show, and it was done live. I think it is superior to the movie.
YAY!!!
I hope it’s most of the black and white episodes…they were the best!!
As usual, thanks to TCM for scheduling HEARTS OF THE WEST, one of the great unsung films of the 70′s directed by the under-appreciated Howard Zieff. It remains one of my movie goings great pleasures.
TV PIONEER…one helluva an actor in Kazan’s A FACE IN THE CROWD. Sheriff Taylor did so much great work in Mayberry…played a great, silent and often shrugging and sighing straight man to Deputy Barney Fife; allowed so many of the supporting cast to shine in the spotlight than many, so called tv stars would even think of allowing these days.
We just don’t see many actors of Griffith’s caliber on so many levels these days.
And I have no idea why.
Sympathies to his family and friends and co workers.
Crying ..
Just re-watched A FACE IN THE CROWD last week and was amazed by how prescient the story line was for today’s political maelstrom and demagoguery– sheer genius if you ask me — as well as how amazing Andy Griffiths did in the terrific role of Lonesome Rhodes. Griffiths deserved an Oscar for that performance which, in a phrase, was “gobsmackingly riveting”. They don’t make actors like this guy anymore. What a talent. What a life. My condolences to Mr. Griffiths’ family, friends and loved ones.
Please air Return to Mayberry
I still remember that whistling intro theme song to the Andy griffith show emanating from my father’s bedroom every night at…i think…7pm or something like that. Glad to see no rapper has sampled it yet…but then again, there is always tomorrow……
The statue is in Mount Airy, NC, the town on which Griffith based his show.
Coincidentally, Hallmark channel is having an day marathon of “Matlock” tomorrow. It had previously been scheduled prior to his death.
